@@MisterRorschach90 I have seen a combination of spelling errors and 'English failure' online everywhere (not just KZbin). We either aren't teaching typing in schools these days, we aren't teaching English, OR (likely) both. If I didn't fail in one or both areas on occasion, I'd be more critical. Have you ever (switching to math, for a moment) tried to get someone at a checkout line try to make change if a) their computer is down (i.e. cash register) or b) if you 'make it easy for them' and give cash which means that rather than returning '$0.97' to you as change they can just give you $3.00 as change (I had this exact example - the cashier almost had a heart attack trying to compensate for my kindness)...

Great vid! I love most Thinkpads but I would personally go for a t530/t430/x230. One gen older cpu with higher tdp but more powerful. They still have pcmcia for easy plug n play egpu. And some T series versions have thunderbolt. I have two x230s I use for video editing (Premiere works better than Da Vinci resolve) and machine learning with thx 970. Work great

If you plan on getting a t440s with the 126GB ssd, be warned. I have one and the ssd straight up died. Checked in the bios and it didn't show up :( Upgrading to 12Gb of ram is an option that helps a lot. My future plans are to replace the internal battery and upgrade the external. You may have difficulties getting an external gpu to work since there's a whitelist in the bios for m.2 devices. There are guides online on how to flash it but the hard part is finding someplace that is hosting the file. Good luck to you, my dude.

Shoutout to old Thinkpads, I literally just picked up a T520 with basically the same specs as yours except mine has an I7-2620m. On a budget they get the job done for a solid light work laptop and you can always find them cheap when IT departments are dumping off old hardware at the end of fiscal quarters

The T440s uses U class processors, if you want higher TDP CPUs (up to 45W!) get the T440p, you can swap the processor and go for pretty much any mobile Haswell model, have a 4810qm in mine and it still feels powerful today. You can even get PGA-adapted H series processors form TaoBao if you're daring, they have IRIS graphics, but also have a 55W TDP and will heat up significantly more.

Tbh, this laptop is going to be pretty good for 1080p editing overall. Maybe nothing crazy extensive, but for basic edits, these are more than enough. Keep in mind, I used to edit on an old AMD Turion 64x2 laptop. I made it work as best as I could. It wasn't great. In fact it was terrible, but it did what I needed it to do. Considering the i5 4300u is something like 4x as powerful and the iGPU is about 8x as powerful, that should speak volumes of it's overall capabilities as a half-decent editing setup. I'm curious if Sony Vegas would have treated you better. It's what I've used forever, so I've never bothered with anything else.

I've been a ThinkPad fan since my childhood, but I recently made the switch over to an HP Elitebook Workstation and aside from the awful keyboard (versus the TX20 ThinkPads) the upgrade path on these is amazing as they do use MXM GPUs! I do agree that the best upgrade you can get for this specific model would be to run it with an eGPU, but I don't remember if you must install any custom BIOS for it to work... Best regards!

I see in the comments you don't plan on doing an upgrade curve on this but you know you give a lot of good grounded experience driven information. An upgrade ark over several uploads would be a worthy channel project and could build inspiration in audience members. Sure, you started out with 'cheap trash' and ended with 'polished tur...ash' but for the ROI of it, a 4 or 5 part series would be quite interesting. I do think that this would also marry well with your eBay foray as well.

I think this was a particularly good deal. I fix and resell laptops on the side, and this at 68$ is a killer deal. Laptops between 4th gen to 8th gen went through a ultra notebook phase, where laptops were slower, but slim. Fat laptops from the 2nd gen with a mq will trounce these ultra lightbooks. Only recently with the rtx 20 series have laptops gotten small and fast but you pay a premium. The t440s should be cheap - 150$, and be good enough for the average user on a budget traveling.

Resolve will use that GPU on anything that can be GPU accelerated offloading a lot of the burden from the CPU. In Premiere, it will use the iGPU to hardware accelerate H.264 video while using the dGPU for things like color grading. I can edit 1080p60 in Premiere no problem.

What about a dual core Dec 2011 HP Elitebook 8460p (i5 2520m 8GB), that I bought 2nd hand in 2017. It runs Ubuntu 19.10 on ZFS from a 1TB SSHD. The lz4 compression of ZFS almost doubled the amount of code, that I could cache in the 8GB Solid State cache and in a 1.5GB memory cache. Linux and Linux VMs run completely from both caches and have instantaneous response times. Windows 7 and 10 are more bloated, but they still have very good response times, think half a second or less. Wishes for next year: 16GB, a SSD of 500GB (sacrificing the DVD) and maybe a 4-core i7 if < $75.

These thinkpad are really easy to replace the keyboard. Also you should be able to upgrade the cpu and ram.

I need to buy a used video editing laptop for 1080p. There are many with 2 GB graphic cards and i7 4-5 gen (T440s, p, W 540). The problem is that these cards are not included in the list of Premiere CC (2019) list. Will these cards still benefit editing? The second choice is a bulkier zbook 15 with quadcore i5 or i7 (4th Gen), 8GB RAM, 2 GB graphics card. But I would go for it only if it's worth the price and bulk difference and it should edit 4k.Your expert advice please.

think of using egpu. they are mostly more strong than zhe dedicated gpu inside the laptop. Just look on the size and cooling for a egpu. I think it will serve for years, if you can use it at home. on the go you might do certain editing stuff, and do renderring and heavy editing at home with a egpu.

"but somehow, I made it work" (shows the MacOS dock on the screen) ! On a more serious note, you should try to find a cheap, older MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, and try editing a 4K video with iMovie (if it can do 4K) or Final Cut Pro. Curious how well one of those would hold up.
