The 052 are well known to be ace in the wet, but the correct answer involves noting just how wet it actually is because a 4S will stomp on it in terms of aquaplaning limit. I'm annoyed they don't exist in GT3 size, they were great on the GT4

I have to say I quite enjoy the nordschleife in the rain. Found a comfortable line to use and try to drive it more fast everytime. Did 10 laps last sunday. It's not full because not many drive in the rain and I can actually overtake some in my yaris. I also did a hyundai taxi lap and was amazed what modern tires can do and that they sometimes drive even on the dry line. I will next year buy some tires that are good in the rain for the nordschleife for the yaris. I heard Uniroyal RainSport 5 are also good for that size of a tire(185). My rav4 mk1 has Falken Ziex ZE 310. They are really good in the rain so I might try it for a lap on the wet NS just for fun.

I was there a few weeks ago for the Circuit Days track day and I didn’t even bother getting the cayman off the trailer, Went out in a few different cars as passenger with varying tyres and it was the same result in everyone, super super slippy, a few cars that over steered just seemed to slide so much once it went, Few of them did a few laps and wrote the day off.
@BTGDale
@BTGDale Жыл бұрын
Interestingly I'd rate that day as a great wet day, with lots of grip. This day was much worse. By any measure though, the Nordschleife is a very slow wet track

@@BTGDale I guess there's a whole bunch of room for experience on there in the wet, Id say most of our group had done very few wet track days in general and were taken back by how slippy it was, even driving around the roads around the ring the difference in grip was huge. I think being taken back by how slippy it was to what we expected mixed with the thought of the potential bill from a incident just wasn't worth it. It was alright though as we were at spa two days earlier and conditions were perfect!

Hi, i whent last saterday f on nurbrubring, it was horribly slippery, it was like drivering on oil! rain, big wind, decomposed dead leaves... and arrived fine at the end :) For every one be very careful with that weather, we can end up so easily in the barrier

i think 4S are not good enough on the rain, comparing with regular pilot sport 5 will be much more interesting, and obviosly softer compound works grips better - i just find out when needed to drive my Nankang ns2r during very cold days even below zero - dry grip was insane

Advocating the rain line in a non-laptine scenario for non-racers is counterproductive. Good to be aware of as needed. IMO, on a tourist drive, you are wasting valuable slick condition seat time, you should drive the raceline and drive within its limits, taking advantage of working on your car control at lower safer, slicker tarmac speeds. You need to drive as slow as you and your cars capability. You are paying by the lap, so by going slower you are getting a better bang for your buck as well.. Adding the complexity and distraction of rain line racecraft to novice drivers with limitations on their car control level is dubious coaching. And you are creating moments for traffic confusion by criss-crossing the race line for overtaking faster cars, increased risk of collision.Also the track will dry quicker if everyone sticks to the normal line. Also, on normal roads, there is no wet line, so you are wasting time for practicing driving in rainy conditions in general. You should be taking advantage of the wet conditions in a more controlled, one-way traffic flow with left-side passing only, and safety crews on standby situation, to become more proficient, not avoiding it.

So much to process here. First, have you driven the ideal line in the wet on the Nordschleife? I've raced all over the world, and this place is literally one of the worst wet tracks in the world. The limits are so incredibly low in some corners that y you feel like you could get out and walk faster. You definitely need to have good car control to try and hit any apexes. Secondly, whether it's the wet line or the dry line, the moment there's traffic, this is a two lane Autobahn and overtaking is only on the left (as per all my Touristenfahrten videos). Saying you're wasting slick time is pretty wild considering the average weather here is something like 12 wet days per month. This summer we had 6 weeks of rain from July through to August. If you want to be proficient at driving the Ring, you can't just block out half the year and live on denial. People who come here to drive fast with zero basics of car control (which is a lot of them now) are a special kind of dumb anyway. That's like climbing mount Everest and asking the Sherpas what the spikey things are for. Which, incidentally, is an experience that the Sherpas are saying is becoming more common too... 🤣🤔🤯🤓

@@BTGDale I've driven the 'Ring in the snow, it was glorious....did 160mph...u passed me the lap before in your 1st ring machine, the venerable 323(5) ? thingamjing. I was in the RSR E46 RHD M3 with yellow livery. Mine had the crap stock 19's. No front grip. I know car control, and have been black flagged (I think) for drifting GP circuit in dry(Car was impounded,lol). Yeah, too many TT dummies with zero car control ruin the track exceeding their dimwitted limits. At least in the wet there are less of them. Keep having fun, Dale, u da Man!!!

@@BTGDaleever done Rockingham in the wet? It was literally pointless driving around there not using the wet line. You could drive on the public roads faster within speedlimits, it was absolutely shocking. If the ring is anything like that, then why wouldn't you just use the part of the track that has the most grip for the conditions?
@truebluemiata
@truebluemiata Жыл бұрын
I'll add that the dry line is typically impregnated with rubber, not good when wet. A reasonable driver is using mirrors and clears to the right no matter what their line. If the wet line keeps the noobs on track then teach it.
@drtone
@drtone Жыл бұрын
@@andyhbo86 Why?! Only for a W2W race or qualifying/time attack. What is your point in driving, to get around the track with the least challenge and get home to mommy as soon as possible, or be a bad ass and demonstrate or learn improved expert car control in slick conditions driving at the edge of limit. If you are afraid to drive the race line in the wet, feel free to be less skilled, less confident and ultimately slower. If you are not sliding, you are unskilled. Any dork can drive around a track on modern sticky tires at a fast clip without a clue about car control.....and they have ruined the track scene. It is essential to learn to control and recover from sliding, and its drivings greatest thrill, regardless of the grip from tire or surface, and not rely on ultimate grip of of any tire....otherwise, find a different hobby. BTW, its more fun to drive the wet line in the dry, not kidding!
