I watched all of your videos and im amazed at how much knowledge you have compared to others in youtube. You are a true builder. I want to make a few suggestions : Band clearance - Point at 0.060" servo travel. 3/4 Clutches - Aim at 0.030" Always use the return springs in 3/4 clutches with HILLMAN 540006 springs. Borg Wartner High energy are awesome clutches. Raybestos GPZ is a bit of step up over the BW. If you block both 3-2 downshifts, your shift timing is critical. Drill your band release orfice to .101" Best Regards, Edward, LS1Tech :)

Hi Nick, thanks for getting back, no it's not lifted, the rear is actually lowered 2 ins. Shorty headers that are rapped , Exhaust, rapped aftermarket air intake tube and a performance tune by JET handheld, stock size tires and garage kept!! I have serviced the trans a few times because of age. I'd rather stack the pistons on the 3-4 accumulator because its reversible! And I'm going to go with their 2-4 servo mods! Any other advise is welcome Nick and thanks again!!

Hi Nick, O.K. I don't know if you want to do this but here it is! I have a 2k GMC 1500 2WD Long Bed 4L60E 3.42:1 Rear Gear 5.3L eng. There is nothing wrong with the trans. I only have 63k miles on it. The only problems I have with the trans. are design driven When I first bought the truck new the converter locked up at 32 to 35 mph and was lugging the eng. coking up the throttle blade and making the throttle stick. I took it to the dealer and they said that's normal all I had to do is clean the throttle body! I told them the converter was locking up too soon, They said that's the way it's designed! So I did some research on Handheld programmers and bought one. This tool stopped the converter from locking up at 32 to 35 and held it off till 48 to 50 mph, perfect!! I can program the shift points, not specific, but later and longer. I can also raise the pressure but I don't want to go too far without a pressure gauge. I cam also do rev& mph limiters. So at 3/4 to full throttle the shifts are just too soft and long. I have a Transgo SK kit and I'm going to limit 1-2 and block the 3-4 accumulators. I was going to block the TCC regulator valve but you said the one in the kit will do the same thing. The 3-2 control valve I'll follow your lead and It looks like the instructions read the same. I'm plan on doing the boost valve mods on the instr. sheet. I it the afl holes in the spacer plate not to drill? The 1-2 shift hole is .063 to .070 for firm and 2-3 shift quality is drilled according to the 2nd gear servo piston size. I don't tow anymore with this Truck and I just haul light loads. Any input you have for me I will really appreciate, but if not I will just take the Bridge😂😂😂 just kidding, I will really under stand. Your videos are among the best tutorials I have ever Watched and will watch until this is fried into my thick skull. Oh in case you want to know I'm a retired Auto Mechanic(Tech) after 55 Yrs. I haven't built a transmission in 50 yrs. did a lot of shift kits and repairs but not builds. Eng. manual trans. diffs and every thing in between. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Thanks for your time and the videos I imagine take alot of your time!!👍👍👍

Hi Doug, lol don't drive it off a cliff just yet. I'd follow Transgo's instructions for the kit apart from blocking off the 3-4 accumulator which you can do that by hammering a 1/4 check ball or cup plug into the 3-4 feed hole in the case bore...Use Transgo's springs for the 1-2 accumulator and make sure you get your servo travel between .075-.125"...Too little, you risk dragging the band; too much you'll bang shift and possibly break your band in half (I've torn down numerous 4L60Es w/ the band anchor half separated from the rest of the band)...Simply drill your 1-2 feed hole .076-.080 assuming you're installing a Corvette 093 second gear servo. If you're using the Transgo's inner AFL spring and TCC reg valve spring you can drill the AFL balance and TCC reg feed per their instructions (or not drill and see how it is then go back in if you're seeing excessive AFL or TCC pressures. Is this truck lifted and on big tires or are the tires stock?

Hi Nick, I've purchased quite a few special tools on ebay , mostly Kent-Moore at really great prices!! Eng. Diff. and trans. in really good shape. I bought a on car valve spring compressor and other tools for the GM Atlas engines in the Trailblazers!!

Yea eBay is where I get nearly all my special tools. A few have been purchased from hard parts suppliers and directly from tool makers.

You provide great info in all your videos, thanks for that. The small yellow text isn't the best. When I pause to try to read it the media viewer controls get in the way plus the text is small as mentioned. Hope your channel and business continues to grow.

Hi Nick, love your videos very informative, was wondering if you ever messed with the 4L60E-3 kit full manual, according to instructions seems like all you do to make it full manual is to remove the 3-4 shift valve outer spring and replace it with their spring on the inboard end, and to put it back to automatic just reverse it back to factory, would there be a way I could do this myself?? hate to spend over $200 for just a kit just to get a spring, I already have the vacuum modulator for pressure control. Thanks.

Thanks, Trucker! I have never actually used that kit before but yes, you can install your own springs...You'll need to also acquire a different 1-2 shift valve train as well as springs for the 2-3 shift/shuttle valve that the Transgo 3 kit provides...All of these mods basically defeat mechanically forced upshifts and downshifts when engine speeds hit certain thresholds in an automatic shift pattern unit, giving you full manual control of all shifts.

Word. Question do you rebuilt it with OEM parts or upgrade kits. I tried to install a Transgo reprogramming shift kit. Not sure if your familiar with it. My issue is I lost the ability to shift to 3rd gear from 2nd. My first and second gear shifting is Amazing but it won't shift to the 3rd gear. This thing came with a new servo component I couldn't install without having to take off the transmission. I tested shift selonoid A and B. And checked to see if the valves where in correct position. Both were good. That's why I'm just wondering if I should just budget the funds to do the whole rebuild process. I enjoy doing mechanic work myself but haven't gone to school for it. I do massage therapy, technical pain and stiffness treatments mostly. I can fix the body but need help with my Chevy S10

Hi JockIndustries, thanks for watching! I use both OEM and aftermarket upgraded parts in my transmissions. Are you saying it's hanging up in second gear and simply will not upshift or it is actually upshifting but feels like it's in neutral after the shift from 2nd gear into 3rd gear?

Thanks for the reply. I can take off really good and it shifts to 2nd really good and smooth. From the 2nd gear, no more shifting occurs to reach 3rd gear. It just stays in 2nd as my speed increases and RPMs as well. I never had that issue before I installed the transgo reprogramming kit. But I did have the P1970 Trans component slipping code. When I installed the transgo kit, the check engine light went away. Does the gear shifting to 3rd gear involve the new servo assembly I didn't install due to lack of spacing to reach it.

Gotcha, sounds like either Solenoid B isn't coming off (it's supposed to be off in third and fourth gear while Sol A is off in 2nd and 3rd) or the 2-3 shuttle and/or shift valves are bound up in the bore (very, very rare and would be on the bottom of my list of suspects). My next step would be to install a bi-directional scan tool that can render live powertrain data (engine and transmission) so that you can take it for a drive while watching the transmission and engine data streams (most scanners will allow you to either view all trans or all engine or select individual parameters from either to view). The purpose is to see if the ECM is actually commanding a shift from 2nd to 3rd. If it is, the problem is somewhere in the trans...If it is not, then trouble shooting will need to be done to find out why...There may be an issue with one of the engine management sensors such as the TPS or MAF as these two are known to cause transmission shifting issues if they malfunction. P1870 (component slipping, usually VB TCC regulator/isolator valve) wouldnt cause this particular no-upshift condition no would the servo unless the servo is literally stuck in the bore but if that were the case, you'd have 2nd gear starts and basically only 2nd gear.

Hi, I'm Nick - If you're looking for a reply from Mike I can hold off but you can search the GM part number for the 3rd accumulator check ball capsule if that's what you're asking about. They all take the same part number from 1982-2014.

Hi Doug, if it does pulse, its is extremely minimal...I have it installed in my Tahoe and TCC engagement is crisp/firm relative to factory-calibrated apply.

Not being cocky or anything but looks like a one of the hairs of the brush NICK when you were installing the accumulator in the case might present a problem, in line with the stand and accumulator pin at 1.50.14. When lubricating up the accumulator bore.

Thanks for watching, Jose. I didnt rewatch before responding but its probably a strand of assembly lube, not a strand from the brush. But let's say it was a brush strand - one strand wouldn't cause any problems as it would make it's way into the pan and get captured by the filter and stay there. That trans has been on the road for months, no problems...

Yea, hopefully some fraction of the other 99.99% of the video was helpful for you. To my knowledge, I don't think anyone else goes through an HD2 showing set ups for two very different servo assemblies, among other things. Let me know if you have any questions on any of it.

Hi Nick, I hope you don't mind a general question on the 1-2 shift. Let's suppose we have a wide open throttle acceleration in first gear and the PCM commands the transmission to upshift. At this very instant, the driver completely lifts the foot of the gas pedal. Can this cause a temporary band slippage, due to the sudden drop in 2nd Clutch circuit pressure due to the accumulator valve opening and allowing all of the locked accumulator fluid to exhaust?

Hi Shalash, the 1-2 shouldnt slip under any circumstances if that circuit is healthy and properly set up/mechanically calibrated and the band/drum are in good shape.

HI Nick, I wonder if you can give me some advice on my valve body build? I put a shift kit in and now I don't have second gear. I put the shift kit in and a corvette servo in because I didn't have 1st and 4th and now its not shifting into 2 when I manually shift from 1st to 2nd. and then when I shift from 3rd to 2nd it goes into a neutral mode and the vehicle wont move forward. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

hi David, if you had 2nd gear prior to doing the work then I'm guessing you either left solenoid A unplugged, failed to install the retainer clip on Solenoid A or perhaps the same but for one of the other solenoids...Drop the pan and check. If the VB appears fine, drop it, the spacer plate, gasket set and air check the servo apply for both 2nd and 4th gear...

Can you tell me about the spring configuration? I bought the sk4l60e shift kit like you suggested and in the instructions it says install 3 springs. Should I install the orange and white spring and then flip the aluminum piston and put the smaller orange spring on top?

Hi David, the spring set up is based on the type/design of your 1-2 acc housing...refer to transgo's instructions to determine which springs to use as they will break it down for you.

Brother i rebuild 4l60e all gears fine i did shift kit transgo hd 2 no overdrive i didnt use the gold shim in the servo but i changed lots of componets still no overdrive

Hi Guillermo, thank you for watching. Did you disassemble the entire valve body completely? Also do you have 2nd gear but just no 3-4 upshift? If so, check the 4th apply piston in the servo cover, maybe you pinched the scarf cut sealing ring. One other possibility is that you put the 3-4 relay valve in backwards...The two big spools go inboard but if you have them outboard, you won't have any 3-4 upshift.

@@nickstransmissions thanks yes I did not dissemble the entire valve body just replaced parts the parts that came in the shift kit. The truck does shift in all gears except the overdrive I checked the servo pin and replaced all components Ive done 3 shift kits in 3 s10s never had issue except on this one by the way it's a swap 5.3 ls s10 with 4l60e I also replaced the brake switch cause it gave me a code that the tcc wire was shorted and it ended being a purple wire it was shorted I fixed it but still no overdrive I have replaced 2 transmission 1 working with overdrive but in my s10 it's not doing overdrive I'm thinking it might be a wire
