Today we install a Corvette servo in my Cadillac Escalade. This is a very simple upgrade anyone with a 4L60E should do!

Thanks! 05 Escalade with 145K shifts so much better. My part cost $40 and I had to disassemble piston/pin assembly in the car due to tighter clearance. Cutting the old blue o-ring and pulling it out was necessary to remove cap also. Great video.

i put a 6.0 from an escalade into my brother's '92 silverado and while the engine is great and performs like a beast the transmission has been a letdown. it always seems to be caught between gears and slips when shifting. hopefully a corvette servo allows it to unlock its full potential

My escalade with 195,000 miles had a 2 to 3 shift that was slipping everytime and could not grab the gear. I was worried I would need an expensive transmission rebuild. I put in the corvette servo and it completely solved the problem. It was a bit of a headache to get the snap ring back on. A tip if you have that issue, tap the cap in lightly with a hammer. Im at about 500 miles on the new servo. Im crossing my fingers the slipping issue is solved for a good amount of time to come.

@@kylel4689 The fix turned out to be a "band aid" in my case. It lasted for maybe 2,000 miles then the transmission could not shift into 3rd or 4th gear at all. I hoped I would get a little more out of it than that. I wound up getting the transmission completely rebuilt. I have about 6 ,000 - 7,0000 miles on that rebuild and it is still running perfectly fine, no issues, but it of course came with the cost of a rebuild.

This really helped with the very loose shifting in my Suburban. It was cheap and only took a couple of hours to replace. I had to break the blue O-ring to get the cap out as others mention. I just a long cross-state drive through the mountains and shifting was nice and crisp.

I am finishing a fresh rebuild on 02 tahoe 4x4 4l60E. Frictions and seals were good and it worked fine beforehand, yet had to do rear main seal after 240k miles finally and figured it was out, so freshen it up. Using Sonnax pinless accumulators, sunshell, boost valve, reman valve body etc. Replaced planetary, old rear had some play in pinions. Used Sonnax hardened backing and apply plates with 65E 7 friction set up. Instaling Sonnax 4th super hold servo and was contiplating on whether to use the corvette servo as not looking for harsh 1-2 shift in normal driving. Under acceleration or when towing, that's okay. Had a shift kit in my old A body, turbo 350, best second gear 'skirt' even at part throttle and loved it, yet this is family hauler too. Thoughts appreciated and thankful for internet as had to drive around to different shops and get to know them for info in old days.

I just received an 03 tahoe from sister. Learning tips and tricks. In the process now of changing transmission fluid/filter. It has 228K miles. After reading your post I wonder: Should I be looking at what you have been doing? Should I be making these same repairs? Odds are this Tahoe was not being kept up.
@mu9627
@mu9627 2 жыл бұрын
@@Hizenbird Depends on how much down time to can afford. If it's 4wd there's more involvement too. I took mine down for a year as not able so much these days. Plus what it takes for each day to keep up. Some of the things I did that were either maintenance or failed that also helped make it easier, where taking the intake off, resealing the lifter valley cover seeping, replaced knock sensors, both had corrosion front was worse, and new boot/harness as connectors fell apart. I replaced the cam sensor, oil pressure sensor while it was off along with new fuel injector orings, cleaned throttle body, new sensor for it as they can take out a trans like the old TV cables would do on the earlier 700s. Also, had several broken exhaust studs on manifolds. With the cat pipe out of the way anyhow, I removed the exhaust manifolds to repair/remove broken bolts, upgraded back with newer style 03 up bolts from GM. With intake and exhaust out of the way ( along with inner fender liners), it made my life easier to get to and ultimately reinstall the upper brackets/bolt/studs upon reassembly. Yeah, most will figure overkill, yet I've done a fair amount of restoration to it over the past few years and cleaned/waxed/derusted and painted back bolts, brackets, hidden areas. Also replaced split loom plastic tubing around main harnesses on drivers side due to exhaust heat and rewrapped with 3M black tape. Looks like factory. R & I'd valve covers, replace valve guide seals using rope method as has plenty of access and could see a bit of oil residue build up on the exhaust valves, etc. etc. Aside from that, I did a lot of reading and watching videos, combined with my years in automotive, although never built many transmissions, yet been around it, and took on the challenge. I'm glad I did as it drives like new again. Considering I saved up on parts over the last few years, rebuilt the front steering and suspension and complete brake system, all new GM mounts, new universal joints, etc. Rebuilding the 4L60E does take some patience and there are many area's that can make or break the build. I had to save up to gather parts, then when the job began I ended making many changes as I'd had more time in between to study and learn more. I went from a, "Put it back stock", mentality to a true purpose built unit that should withstand any towing and miles I could put on it, plus to pass along to my son. The newer vehicles today, all well and good for most folks, have too many controlled/connected functions and are getting overcomplicated IMO, neat as they may be, I chose to continue to invest in this one. Keeping all receipts in case some dummy totals it, Lord forbid please on that. Okay, so on the build I acquired the tools slowly as I progressed online from various venders. I also rebuilt my transfer case while out too, same thing. Transmission bench has a great video series, then there are so many others too. Sonnax has a great deal of technical information, there are a variety of mods that can be done, yet make sure they are done in conjunction with the build purpose. Mine's not a drag car nor will it be street raced, etc. Just for it to shift properly and be reliable especially if towing. I did build up a 2 - 4 servo setup with all new GM components, new pin, cover, 2 & 4 pistons, GM scarf rings, springs, etc. as concerned about having too harsh shift in second, especially like in slow/stop n go traffic. However, I also built up a spare 2 - 4 setup, all new parts including another new GM center pin, yet with a Corvette servo and super hold 4th servo and got it all together while transmission was still out and set up the apply clearance to within spec by properly grinding the pin to length with the correct radius by chucking it in a drill and using a disc grinder, carefully!. Now that I know that it works and how it shifts, I may put that set up in it when we go to tow a camper. If it makes 2nd shift like third does now, I'll be very happy as it's quick and firm under mild to heavy acceleration. Don't leave out the small things, TCC valve, boost valve, 3rd check ball capsule - mine looked okay and didn't leak, yet when I removed and compared it to new GM unit, the ball seat was wallered out and wouldn't have lasted too much longer without giving problems. Again, so much to put down and so many others who've actually done this for a living will have their say too. All I can say is for the cost of a reasonable custom build elsewhere, this thing is now up to 4l65/70 standards. Yes, that includes new old stock GM 5 pinion planetaries, not aftermarket or rebuilt stuff. All the Sonnax I could put into it, lol. Including one of their reman valve bodies. I used Rock Auto and many other venders by shopping for best prices to keep costs down and again saved up over the years in anticipation, glad to still get N.O.S components for this vehicle. I was very fortunate as prices have gone up a bit since I started collecting. All said and done, It's my personal vehicle, it's now back on the road and I have the personal pride of knowing that I did it and if anything ever comes up, I know how to check it out and how it operates. Hopefully that won't be anytime soon. Hope this helps others and any additions to this will only solidify the DIY of these transmission's and GMT 800's.

It runs and drives fine but per my research I do hear that the transmissions in them tend to heat up and fry pretty quick. I don't do any hard shifts or anything but do you suggest changing (not flushing) the transmission fluid for safe keeping? I hear some mechanics say that they're ticking time bombs and others say changing the fluid and filter is better for it in the long run.

I ordered the corvette shift servo from Amazon (Fully assembled unit incl cover $63) and this did not fix the problem, I suspect ours may be a total pump failure. We had the same issue described in the video, long double shift 1st to 2nd, and very slow 4-5 second shift 2nd to 3rd, we bought our Escalade exactly 1 year ago with this problem and have driven it this long so most likely not a clutch friction plate issue. A few days before replacing the shift servo the vehicle completely lost ability to shift to any gear but still worked in 1st gear. After replacing the servo it restored shift 1st to 2nd back to doing its strange double shift again, but unable to shift 2nd to 3rd or beyond.

If the shifter moves without any detents and there's very little resistance it's a good possibility its in the cable or it came unhooked. This would be easy to check if you can get under it and look at the trans linkage. Just make sure the wheels are chocked.

Eh. Mine has 339k on the original motor and transmission and I'm just now replacing shift solenoids. I didn't have any transmission problems other than the occasional wierd shift until I let it sit a year through quarantine. The shift issue wasn't bad enough to be worth fooling with before, but since I have to get under there to fix the other issue now I may as well check this out. There's no time for a rebuild or money for a replacement, so we'll see if this can get me to work and back for awhile longer... Wish me luck, send good vibes, and don't bad mouth my high-mileage truck. 😆 Until I get this one right, I'm having to drive a Ford that was bought as a project. It gets me where I need to go, but not with any degree of comfort or dignity. The damned driver's door stuck yesterday and I had to choose the window or passenger side exit. FYI, I tried both - neither can be done gracefully when coworkers are watching. 🤣

ok...ive been involved in this project for 6 weeks now....thankfully its not my daily driver. road grime had yhis thing allmost like welded into place. Then last week.it actually moved for me and i got it out. now i cant seem to get this thing in deep enuff to put the covers snap ring back on....it will go but be patient. im thinking my crowbars the tool to use instead of the pry bar....i came down with lyme the same day i got the servo out so the fevers wreaking havoc with me. The fluids just horrible though. not cooked, yet but pretty bad.....so how can i drain the converter safely? ive done this with th350s back in the day by cutting the top feed trans line on the radiator ....couple 3ft pieces of fuel line. the end i left in the radiator i put the line into my new fluid....the other end off the tranny was just to empty it all out. my rebuilds a vette servo now and i used to use trick shift alot too back on the 80s....is this ok with the 4l60e? and lucas too. my trannys were better than new and trickshifts allmost like putting in a shift kit too. I got my scripts for lyme today and im feeling my oats allready after just the 1st pill....im not working till sunday so theres time. Its thurs now. pretty excited sbout this whole thing...its my 01 silverado and i miss it

Servicing helps. Lettings that old worn out fluid try to lube things for 200k+ just aint the game. That said even one without regular servicing ive seen some hit nearly 300k before failure. These arent as horrible transmissions as people make them out to be. Infact ive seen more fail are higher mileage due to low fluid levels. Transfer case input seal goes bad then you end up with a good portion of your trans fluid, in your transfer case.

Is your harsh 1-2 shift intermittent? If so, it could be a wiring harness problem. Actually even if it’s not intermittent that can be true.
