Sup everyone, I’m back. Moving forward, you should be seeing my face (and my videos) more often. Some notes I wanted add to this video. 1) I chose to focus on mostly the main mobile quarterbacks who impacted the style of play. I didn’t talk about every single dual threat (or any of the ones who ultimately failed like Johnny Manziel) 2. Steve McNair passed away in 2009 from fatal gunshot wounds. I chose not to talk about it because he wasn’t the primary focus of the video. R.I.P. Steve “Air” McNair. 3. With this being my first facecam video in awhile, let me know if you have any suggestions! And let me know what you thought of this style of video (the combo of facecam with highlights) Anyways, thanks guys for all your patience. Expect uploads more frequently from here on out!

That wave that featured Cam, Kap, RG3, and Russel Wilson was legendary. They all had some type of success whether it was running or passing. Cam brought in the read option, but Rg3 revolutionized it. Redskins use to run sets primarily out of the "Pistol" formation. Then the 49ers and Seahawks started using it once they seen the success RG3 was having with it. Now we have Lamar and Kyler Murray. Hope they carry on the legend of the running QB.

Hi from over the pond here in Northern Ireland. I'm a 49ers FANATIC. I got all nostalgic watching this video as I started watching American Football 🏈 as a teenager in the mid eighties. Back then I bought a guide book to the rules of American Football,published by Channel 4,the first TV channel to show the sport in the UK. In it, the Quaterback was described as player who could scramble if he wanted to but because he wore less padding as other positions and was there fore more prone to injury he wouldn't make a habit of it. As can be seen in your video,how times have changed.I preferred the realistic player figure dressed as a Patriot logo of New England to their current one. Two suggestions. 1-Do a video on the NFL International games,primarily London. 2- Although it may be before your time do a video on NFL Europe.

I think it's a "thing" but it will still be pocket passer first league. I love the scrambler though like Russell Wilson he is great.
@matthewtriaszin19654 жыл бұрын
The "real" pocket passer will be out if Linebackers and d-linemen continue to become more and more athletic. This isn't because O-lines aren't able to provide protection, but because a QB that can't at least scramble out of pressure is genuinely a *numerical disadvantage for offences*. The stereotypical Brett Favre/Eli Manning esque gunslinger is gone for similar reasons, at this point the only form of pocket QB that can keep up is the quick releasers like Brady and Garappolo, because again, the longer a QB stays in the pocket the longer a defence has to use their numerical superiority. With a mobile QB, the QB is no longer a numerical disadvantage, as a good scrambler is a threat on pass plays *regardless of them using their arms or legs*, you have to cover both or you end up letting them gain huge chunks of yardage. If you mean in a sense that QBs will always be passers first and foremost you're absolutely correct, but it's simply untrue that the prototypical pocket QB could genuinely survive in today's NFL.
@tylerhenry59194 жыл бұрын
Arguably the top 4 QB's right now are all mobile (Mahomes, Russ, Lamar and Watson.) There's definitely still a lot of pocket passers but most of them atleast have the speed to scramble should the play break down.
@8MoneyIzmyMission84 жыл бұрын
Lol, it's not a "thing " it's the way to go. Name a pocket passer outside of Jared Goff who has came into the league this decade and accomplished anything statistically, record, or super bowl wise? Want me to name mobile and dual threats off the top of my head? Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Pat Mahomes,amar Jackson, DeShaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Cam, Newton. The top 5 QBs on draft boards for next year are all dual threats. Mobile and dual threats are the here and now, and the future. Good to great pocket passers are a dying breed in the NFL.
@AK-74K4 жыл бұрын
@@8MoneyIzmyMission8 Would never say never on that. There are always transcending players in the NFL. Last season Wentz basically played like a pocket Qb in the second half of the year and carried the team with everyone injured to the playoffs. Ultimately guys like Watson and even Jackson will be scrambling a lot less and passing more from the pocket
@Kylora21124 жыл бұрын
The NFL meta is constantly shifting as players get bigger, stronger, and faster. Goalpost QBs like Dan Marino and Peyton Manning *used* to be the standard. Now that linebackers are faster, you can't just sit in the pocket. You can't have a QB like Drew Bledsoe who can't think on his feet when he's under pressure (I live in New England and watched Drew throw pick after pick after he got flushed out of the pocket). Jared Goff is the outlier. The best QBs in the league are either old (Brady, Brees, Rivers, Matty Ice) or mobile (Mahomes, Jackson, Wilson).

My prediction is that by the end of this decade the classic pocket passer is gone, at least as a starter QB, and all of the starting QB's will be at least a scrambler type. The development of defensive athletic players will be one reason, but another is that a mobile QB will make it harder for defenses to adapt to the diversity a dual threat QB has in an offense.

Not true at all, anyone who watches the tape can see that most mobile QB's simply aren't good passers and tend to get injured more often. Even guys like Randall Cunningham didn't really shine until late in his career when he got Randy Moss. Vick and Jackson keep getting exposed in the playoffs. Mobility works when it isn't used as a crutch, you can't be like the Texans and skimp on the O-line because you expect Deshaun Watson to be able to keep pulling magic tricks out his ass

Russell Wilson doesn’t have to run, but he does because the line collapses, he has no one to go to, or he knows he can get some where with his feet. Him and Marshawn Lynch made me a Seahawks fan.

That one clip of Tarkenton reminds me so much of Johnny Mantziel

This is a great review! Jim Zorn deserves a mention.

Pocket passers outperform running quarterbacks across the length of their careers. Quarterbacks who evade rushers by scrambling and then passing should not be considered running QB's.

From Russell Wilson to Patrick "No look lefty" Mahomes

Russel Wilson really is the future of mobile QBs and the position in general. A guy who doesnt rely on his athleticism but when he hits you with it, absolutely murders your defense

This aged well
@NeverwascooL Жыл бұрын
@@JahWontPayTheBill it did age well cause QBs with that skill set are dominating the league regardless of Wilson falling off a fucking cliff

As a European, whos been watching NFL now for about 5 years or so, I absolutely think Lamar can win a superbowl, but hey, im european, I probably don't know shit xD

Nah ur right I think he can definitely win a Super Bowl. After improving so much from last year the sky is the limit for him
@pollogaming9194 жыл бұрын
mjay he can’t even win a playoff game. He was a one year wonder. Unlike mahomes
@nightmarekilo844 жыл бұрын
Pollo Gaming quit comparing him to mahomes he has been on the league for less years then mahomes
@pollogaming9194 жыл бұрын
BigDwarf if mahomes was on the ravens he would be even better cause he has an actual defense. And Lamar wouldn’t even do that good as a chief. He would only run

Thanks for giving Wilson the proper credit he deserves. Nothing is more fun than those "Squirrel Plays" over the years. Hopefully he can win one more superbowl in his career with Seattle. That's gonna be tough when he'd likely be facing Jackson, Mahomes or Watson.

@@michaelh1603 Well, those 3 are amongst the best athletes to ever play Qb position, so no shame not being quite as mobile as them. Randall was my favourite out of the 3!

Of all the dual threat QB's I think Steve Young is the blueprint. He was a master at making the right decision to keep from getting his body destroyed in a violent era. Could he have run for 900 yards? Yeah, but that might had been his last season.
