In this latest video from the 4R Northwest workshop we convert a Toyota pickup into a flatbed! This was a special project for my Uncle Eduardo. After a little convincing that his little pickup would be much cooler as a flatbed he reluctantly agreed. Needless to say he is now the proud owner of a far more useful pickup in that size vehicle! Hope you get a few ideas for your project! Thanks for watching and ENJOY!

THE BEST FLATBED VIDEO ON KZbin. Totally respect guys that have skills and attention to detail. Oh! And respect for tools and their tooling. And for that chopper guy, and the powder coat guy, and definite respect for the draftsman. What you seen herr folks is what every man should have skill wise and what they should have in their garage. I think I'll subscribe right now!

That was really practical and very nicely done, on a run of the mill, work horse. Nice to see, in contrast to folks doing awful chassis mods on truly classic trucks, just for the sake of it.

Excellent Job, I have an 1985 Toyota SR5 Longbed 4x4 with a totally shot bed, looking for a new idea, and I FOUND it. THANK you so much. I will need to put tie downs on mine, as I carry a portable Fire Suppression System during Wildfire Season here in So CAL. I agree with a lot of the other Posters, you made it look fairly easy, and FUN!!!! Thank you so much for sharing, drawing up material list right now.

@@daviddenman7479 It's probably the speedo cable (inner 'wire' is broken or 'stuck', or is just disconnected). But if the odometer still works, then it's the speedo gauge 'needle' return-spring (it's 'popped' off its mount or is broken). Search and check Y/T for vids on this subject to get more details about the fix. It's nice to have a working speedo !!

Great job, just one question, would there be any concern of DOT approval given that original bumper was removed, I know for example trailers on semi's have to have a rear bumper to avoid rear end collisions from going under the trailer in the event of an accident, that would be my only concern just a rear end collision being worse because of the bed sitting much higher and no bumper present
@4rnorthwest
@4rnorthwest 4 жыл бұрын
Super5 that’s a great question! Ask someone whose pickup has a 2 foot lift. Most standard vehicles would hit their tires before they touch any steel!😂 in all honesty I wonder how the hell some of these pickups from the factory ever got DOT approval to begin with. Once the bed was removed we couldn’t believe the shit show of welds that held the frame together!🙄. I’m confident most average hobby welders can fuse metal together with more stability than stock frames from what we’ve seen🤨

Eddie Price well thank you Eddie for your interest! The tubular steel frame if memory serves me 1.5”x4” .120 wall thickness. The ladder framing was1.5” .095 square tubular. The diamond plate was 1/8” think I think. Taillights were LED 13volt trailer lights off amazon. To prevent overflash from the blinker relay on the turn signals you’ll need an in-line regulator/resistor on each taillight to the blinker. They’re available on Amazon also. Fairly inexpensive and well worth it. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!
