4runner Rear Main Seal Change

Doesn't look like yours was leaking? No oil anywhere? So why change?

I had to remove the transmission to change the torque converter on it and there were over 200k miles so we did it as a preventative measure. I always change them when I have the transmission out of a car especially with than many miles.

Love Toyota a 2001 4runner and it work really good but now i would reverse and i will hear a squeaking song from the front so i took off the 2 wheels and check the break pad replaced them and can still hear the squeak

Check the backing plate on the front brakes, it may be rubbing the rotor as it turns. If that is not it, then I would jack the car up and rotate the front wheel separately to see which one is making the noise. Then follow the sounds accordingly.

Had you been just replacing the rear main seal , none of the trans work, what would you have charged. I have a 17 Tacoma which needs rear main seal, trying to get a idea on cost without getting screwed.

It is about 8 hours of labor to do that job so you would be looking at about 800 to 1400 depending on labor rates. Normal rates around me range from about 100 to 200 an hour.

Question sir..if your car is automatic transmission...and your rear main seal is worn out.what oil will coming out there?is it ATF?or ENGINE OIL?

If it is the rear main seal that pertains to the engine but there is also a front pump seal on the transmission that can leak transmission fluid. Normally I like to change both while in there to prevent a leak in the future.

I think i might have to replace the oil pan gasket as well theres few drops just beneath the tranny
