4th Gen 4Runner Instrument Cluster Removal

What year vehicle is this? Can the vehicle be driven without the cluster? For my 2007, I was under the understanding that the ECU gets the speed signal from the cluster as opposed to directly from the sensor. So I was concerned it might affect transmission shifting. Backstory: I've got a dead short drawing 6 amps, killing the battery quickly. As soon as i remove the cluster, the draw goes down to 100 mA. Looking for recommendations on a cluster rebuild service.

You mentioned people are mailing their clusters to you. Do you repair them? My panel stopped working a few months ago, no speedometer, or tachometer, no mileage, gas or any guages are working. It first started where the needles were going a bit haywire, then stopped all together. Was gonna try to pick up a used one on eBay, but couldn't find one that had all the options ...i e. Lights etc such as DAC and 4 Wheel drive and traction control lights. Not sure if all cluster panels are identical... 2005 4Runner Sport Edition with 4 wheel drive. Any advice?

Yessir. Only thing that is different on the 03-05 clusters is the layout of some of the LEDs and the fact that the turn signals are part of the plastic cover you take off rather than integrated into the cluster. Removal and re-installation is exactly the same.

...just curious about the back-story. Why would someone need to send their cluster to you? My cluster is functional, but the Plexiglass is all fogged/scratched over (from a piss poor detail job I had done once). I would love to be able to replace this, but it appears to be all one piece in your video.

I offer LED swap services to change out and/or customize the color combinations inside of different clusters. I made these videos primarily for people who had already reached out to me to swap their clusters but didn’t know how to remove them. The videos are public simply because it’s easier to share that way.
