I have a 1999 gu patrol. It’s my first 4wd and I’m really looking to start taking it on the trips it deserves to drive. I don’t have much money and can’t afford many mods but I make do and your videos help out a tonne. New brakes on a 23 year old car would definitely help out a tonne and really give me some peace of mind. Anyway I’m a big fan but best of luck to everyone else. Whoever wins really deserves it.

1993 GQ Patrol, turns braking into an extreme sport in peak hour traffic on the freeway after work. could seriously do with that bendix brake upgrade!! great informative piece jocko showing the reasoning behind the mods, and why. We certainly want more of these with various mods!! Cheers!!
@elliotkane44435 ай бұрын
There's a caliper kit + drum to disc conversion a couple outfits are selling for about $2700 just for GQ/GU Patrols - Upgrades the rotor size but you need minimum 17" rims. Bendix says you need minimum 18" rims for this kit - So price in a set of wheels and tyres if you want to go either way. Just upgrading your rotors won't change your brake distance, just the fade, and in real world driving your brake fade will probably hit your drums first. I reckon 18" rims won't give you enough tyre & sidewall unless you've got 35s and they may be hard to come by in a lot of places.

Hey Jocko, Recently purchased a 2014 Colorado and got it serviced, got it serviced last weekend as I was having some electrical trouble and the mechanic found out the rotors on the front end are nearly gone. I could really use this kit as I haven't quite recovered financially from the purchase. Anyway I really hope I am lucky enough to get this kit but good luck to everyone. Cheers Jocko and everyone over at 4WD 24/7, you guys are a bunch of bloody legends!!!

Gday Jocko and the 4WD 24/7 team! I’ve had my first car for nearly 6 months now, it’s a 1989 Daihatsu Feroza (DX) and you could say the brakes need more than an upgrade after over 30 years of abuse. As whoever drives gets a solid leg workout! And with the glasshouse just up the road would be awesome be able to stop on those gnarly hills! If you could please help me out that would be wicked, cheers!!!

Thanks guys.

Hey all, I've got an old HJZ75 1991 Landcruiser, I have been slowly fixing it up over the last couple of months and a brake upgrade would really be great, with the older Landcruiser models not having any airbags in the vehicle and the standard brakes not being as efficient as they used to be a new set of brakes would help improve the safety of my vehicle when I'm on the road, thanks and good luck to everyone.

1999 NL Pajero LWB. So good to see more and more episodes of Jocko! Especially the more technical episodes! "I Love Getting Data", that's the best! I drive an older 1999 LWB NL Pajero, and have been slowing kitting it out for off the beaten track trips with my family. Bigger wheels, tyres, beefier suspension, ammo boxes, draw system in the works, front bar, under body protection, fridge etc, all the budget basics I need to get myself and my family out into the bush. My main reason for wanting this brake upgrade, over and above it being an older, heavy 4WD with some much needed attention for the brakes to bring it up to modern standards, is the safety of my family while on the roads and trails, especially for my 16month old daughter, who we can finally take on adventures with us! You can't put a price on safety, but even with that in mind, I wouldn't be able to afford a big brake upgrade without help anyways. I just want to have safe travels and make memories!

Hey jocko, I have a 2013 ford ranger , I tow a van on the back of it and have alot of precious cargo to look after inside the cab as well “kids”! This video is a real eye opener for how you can come unstuck with a loaded up vehicle relying purely on the stock brakes. Had this happens years ago towing my van with a vehicle that was well under being a suitable tow vehicle, I was on a down hill climb, auto, and the brakes got so hot that they were failing to slow down the vehicle , felt like my foot was through the floor, I was packing it big time, lucky the bottom of the hill had a nice flat stretch where I was able to roll off speed to finally pull up. Even though pulling up for a whole and letting them cool down help a bit, they were badly glazed and needed full replacement …

I'm driving a Ford PX2 Ranger still with OE brakes. I have already done some of the necessary upgrades to bigger tyres and suspension to be able to tackle my 'driveway'. I'm living at the top of a mountain a couple of hours inland from Byron Bay where the track is already quite gnarly and rutted and with a few water crossings before I even get to the steep mountain climb. The first 20 odd km of black top into town is well known as some of the most pothole riddled road in the region so I need to be on my toes for changing potholes as they can be suspension killers! After seeing this video clearly I need to upgrade my brakes, particularly doing a drum to disc conversion on the rear as I'm crossing water several times every trip out of my driveway! Great video and extremely informative Jocko, I really do enjoy watching the variety of videos on 4WD 24-7.

Great episode Jocko, Have the PX2 Ranger myself and yeah the stock brakes are great for street driving going down the shops or running kids around, but have been helping my disabled son build a competition car over the last 12mths as he cant get a Lic due to his special needs. With the car trailer, his car and then all the gear in the back for the day, car load of family buckled in it makes for some interesting experiences, been looking at brake upgrades for awhile but the budget just cant always stretch. Would love to feel safe and know that the family is as well & we don't have to pick and choose the events we enter due to the travelling involved. With the big brake upgrade on the Ranger it would greatly help towards him continuing to enjoy himself behind the wheel of his car, and would only leave ourselves to upgrade the trailer from Hydro to Elec down the road when my funds become avail. Again great episodes Jocko and all the boys from 24/7 each week ... Cant wait for next weeks adventures !!

Also time saving as we had to wait so long at the bottom to cross a creek crossing as the brakes were so hot we didn't want to go into the almost freezing water and destroy the brake even more. Loving the content.

Quality video and important information! I just bought a 99 XJ Jeep in preparation for a move to the mountains of Colorado. Simply put, it’s a 23 year old truck that I bought used, so a brake upgrade would give great peace of mind when in the mountains!

How good is this!!! Isuzu Dmax 2021. I tow a caravan of up to 2.7-2.8T travel down quite a few escarpments. I have learnt how to use the caravan brakes better but must admit the standard brakes are very poor for the purpose. I'd love a new set and make the setup so much safer. Keep up the good work, this sort of testing is what we need.

We have a 200 Series and have set it up to tow our 3.5t Lotus caravan. Would love to get a break upgrade so we can be more safe. Love this video as it explained why it’s import to have brakes that stop your vehicle. We didn’t even think to get an brake upgraded when we had the suspension and GVM done.

Hey 4wd247 Ive just converted my series 4 patrol from the zd30 to a td42. I didn't budget enough to do the brakes and I've found its needed! With the extra weight of the motor and bash plates she doesnt stop like she should!!

Hi Jocko love the content. I have a Px2 ford ranger Wildtrak. I will love to have this upgrade because over the 6 years I added so much weight to the vehicle and did many upgrades it's time for the final peace of the puzzle to make my end of year trip safe with my 2 boys and wife.

Hey guys, We have a 2009 GU ST Nissan Patrol wagon. It has the rear decked out with drawers and fridge, roof rack and bar work, but the main reason I would love to throw the brake upgrade in is because in approximately 2 months we are making the move back to Victoria all the way from Karratha, Northwest WA. Travelling down through Perth and then across the Nullarbor. Roughly just under 5000km trip would be amazing to have brakes we can rely on, especially with the cattle wandering over roads in these parts. Cheers legends.

Hey guys, got a Prado 150 and been adding weight slowly but surely, bar, winch, wheels, tyres, drawers, awning, etc etc and the brakes are really starting to struggle. Scared me a few times already and needs an upgrade to make it safer with some big trips planned over the next couple years. But especially as its the daily drive in the burbs, she needs an upgrade. Keep up the great work, love your vids 👍

Hi Jocko! Fairly new to 4wding. Just got my first 4wd, Mitsubishi MN Triton. Ive slowly been adding gear to it for camping trips but am soon realising how expensive this hobby can be! I drive on the expressway everyday to work... and at the same time everyday for what appears to be no reason... everyone slams their brakes on going from 100kms to 20-30kms. Can be a little scary to stop in time... so definitely an upgrade i need to do! Would be super grateful for better brakes to keep me adventuring now I've just started! You boys are the reason I got into 4wding 😊

2012 TRE off road tacoma in the US. I’m driving from Boston to California in September and currently researching options for the trip. This video came out at the right time for me! Think I need to upgrade either way

Hi Jocko, great vid and enjoying the info you are producing, keep it up. Gu 2011 patrol zd30 common rail. 16" x295/75. Vehicle constantly loaded with recovery gear, rooftop tent, fridge, bull bar, winch, rock sliders, lifted 3" with heavy duty shocks and springs. Often go away with 3 ton camper trailer with tinnie on top and 15hp outboard. The standard brake setup no longer up to the task. A Bendix up grade would make it a great deal safer and confidence inspiring.

Loved the Vid! I literally have been looking into a brake upgrade on my 14 76 series cruiser. So much info out there about change this or that for 20% more etc. but Jocko is onto it! Data is key. Recently had a scary moment trying to pull the big girl up on a camping trip with the family, people focus too much on making em go. I’d Prefer to get it to stop! Cheers guys!

Recently bought my first 4WD - 2008 Prado 120, slowly going through and upgrading it from a sad stock soccer mum car to something that can take me nearly everywhere I want to go. I don’t know when the brakes were last done but they’ll be due for replacement soon as the braking isn’t fabulous. This bit of kit would be awesome as my partner and I will be starting a family soon, and it would peace of mind knowing the brakes are quality bit of kit I can count on to keep them safe.

Hi Jocko - awesome test! My 2022 n80 hilux and slide on camper will shortly take my wife and me around Australia on a 4 month epic adventure! Having decent brakes could mean the difference between an awesome trip and a massive disappointment if we crash or hit an animal - hope to hear from you and Bendix to help us make our dream trip a success!

awesome video with some great info. I run a 2021 Toyota fortuner crusade with a few extras including, drifts drawers with water tank in the rear, engel fridge, dual battery system, roof platform with extras added. but most of all, we use the vehicle to to our caravan when glamping with the family and dogs. This would be an awesome addition to our car to ensure the family stay safe.

Yeah Jocko finally picked up my 2022 Dmax in April then had bi lateral knee constructions. Just got the ok to drive. Slowly kitting it out to tow and tour. Now waiting for our new hybrid caravan to arrive so we can tour. Can't wait to see more of my beautiful country with the added knowledge that my braking system would be so much safer. Cheers Nev

Hey jocko! I have a 2015 GU Nissan Patrol. This car is already a hippo on ice skates let alone with the extras including bar work, winch, draws and fridge set up I have on it. I would really appreciate the Bendix break upgrade, especially with travelling a long distance from Cairns Qld to Bunbury WA in the very near future. Thanks mate! Keep the videos coming!

We are about to set off with our Ford Ranger Wildtrak px3 (with a fair bit of gear)& caravan around Australia full time. Between the misses & 2 kids needing to stop for toilet breaks every 5 minutes I’ll need all the braking power I can get 😅

I have a 2012 Ford Ranger in which i tow a camper trailer that has a lot of weight. My vehicle has been upgraded with a bullbar, rear bar, roofrack and accessories therefore making it a heavy vehicle. My vehicle is also due for new brakes and the bendix system will be a fantastic upgrade as my 4wd doesn't stop like it used to.

Hey Jocko, I've got a 2013 Toyota Hilux SR5 and have just started doing carpentry and maintenance work for the locked up Aboriginal Communities in the middle of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. I often need to tow a dual axle trailer with both that and the car being fully loaded with 3 blokes, all our tools and meals. I had a hard brake line snap at the calliper on my way into one of the communities due to the terrible unmaintained roads and corrugations. It was lucky one of the boys needed a piss before we got into town because otherwise I probably wouldn't have realised I had no brakes very late and it could have been very bad. Had to bush mechanic it when we got I to town with just a punch, a hammer and some drill bits and some bending of some brackets. Also snapped an antenna tab on the Bullbar due to this. So I could definetly benefit from this!

I have a 2021 dmax. I do a lot of kms on road and see a lot of crap driving. I’ve lost count of The amount of times I’ve had to brake hard to avoid people pulling out in front of me. My Ute is set up for touring with a canopy rooftop tent and draw set up. Great video by the way! Insane how much the big brakes work compared to OEM
