Good effort, nicely done. My friend had a 4x4 CF, Ferguson Formula transmission. Thirsty? Not 'alf. The guy who ran the filling stn loved it.

Never realised these were built by NAM though it makes sense, they are very un-Land-Rovery in design which would have seemed an obvious parts bin raid for a sort of in-house conversion. Different BL/Austin Rover brands were always competing and trying to do things deliberately different though. Freight Rover was put under the control of Land Rover for a bit so it’s logical they all hated each other. Whilst the County is the most famous 4x4 transit, I have seen a press photo for a mk2 Transit 4x4 by NAM and there were other conversion companies available on that platform too. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one that wasn’t a County but maybe everyone assumes that’s what they are - they only really went to utility fleets though and nearly all of them got worked hard till they rotted so survival of any 4x4 van is super rare.

BR used to have Freight Rover vans&minibuses in the 80s. I used to have a Peugeot 405 1.9TD GLX 90bhp&406 2.1TD&2.0HDI 110bhp. All great reliable engines, so your 1.9XUDturbo is a very good choice for your van.

In the 80s the Central Electricity Generating Board had hybrid sherpa, used lead acid batteries for town use and its engine for out of town.

It's obviously styled with a nod to the original Range Rover. I think fleet operators, like British Gas, had a few. It will have rationalised with fleets of 2wd's. They looked almost the same as the regular vans, regular wheels with just an inch or 2 extra clearance. That one's missing its rubber bumpers. They were awesome, likely giving better protection than that cow bar. The tale is they're so narrow because BL, BMC or whatever they called themselves at the time didn't have line wide enough, so they had to be designed to be assembled alongside their larger cars.

...or more likely, since the original Sherpa was based on Marina running ear, it would easily fit on the same lines.
