4x4 Off-road trip Awesome muddy South west W.A. (Episode 19). We explore Wellington National Park and find more than we could have hoped for. Yet again with the help of our good mate Wayne (the SW local) we encountered Deep bogholes, very steep and long hill climbs covered with mud and a great tough section at the end which tested us all!
After this awesome trip we camped at a place called Potters Gorge which made for a great nights camp with plenty of cold ones around the camp fire talking about the days 4WD adventure.
Vehicles in this video: we had Two 79 series landcruisers, Two Nissan Patrols and one unstoppable Jeep!

+Braidan Miners A Rubicon in stock form is probably the best offroader you can buy, however they don't provide the reliability and versatility of the land cruisers which are real tough working vehicles much better for over-landing, camping etc

jeeps get a bad wrap in australia but as a jeep owner myself its surprising how many times its on par, if not better then most cars built to the same level. its power to weight is good, its angles are fantastic, and the alternator isnt at the bottom of the damn engine block so it can go through water better.

My winch failed due to a thermal sensor plug coming loose which was not in the manual so when we stopped to fix the problem we saw all leads show in the diagram were there. Once I got it cleaned and had a better look it was obvious! The Patrols winch failed due to not being pre tension spooled so it spun on the drum and ripped the holding screw off at the other end.

+harry walker Jesus you're a rabid Toyota hater aren't you? I bet you froth at the mouth when people talk about the benefits of owning a Toyota. As someone with a lot of family and friends who are farmers I find your hatred rather amusing. There's a reason the farmers who are 500km or more from the nearest mechanic (or in some cases, the nearest human) only buy Toyotas. They are extremely solid and reliable vehicles and if something does go wrong they're easy and cheap to fix. Sure they might have some flaws (Not as many as your disillusioned brain might think) but when compared to the nearest competitor they outshine them by a country mile.
@phantomwalker8251
@phantomwalker8251 8 жыл бұрын
there not cheap unless its something simple.i know a mechanic/engineer,wouldnt touch one.im learning why.i know there no choice in this country so you buy whats popular,i also wouldnt buy a commodore,ther rubbish too,but cheap & easy to fix.thing is,if i have 20k to spend,ill buy the biggest,best whatever,for that money,not buy what my neighbor has.ive owned a bronco for 12yrs,cost me 3k,spent about 7k all up on it in that time,mainly fixing the previous owners mechanics fuck ups.main breakdown is the elec coil,just stops.but have run rings around toyotas that were stuk,pulled them out,plus it doesnt stall in sand or mud,like diesels do.no guts.&,dont say it costs me thousands in fuel,$50 a wk,$30 service.plus i dont have to wait till there nothing on the horizon to pull out into traffic.plus,all parts are available for any yr,all still made.
@SuperKirks
@SuperKirks 8 жыл бұрын
harry walker Wait... Did you actually say a Ford Bronco has all parts available? In a country where you own half of all the Ford Broncos? And that's great anecdotal evidence you got there. I'm sure people have had Alfa Romeo's that have had no issues. That's meaningless. My family has owned 4 Toyotas over 20 years and not one of them has had a mechanical issues. We keep in touch with the person we sold our '03 100 series Landcruiser to and they still haven't had anything major go wrong with it. Just regular servicing. And that beast has seen some serious use in the outback. A farming family we regularly see have over 10 Toyotas on their farm, ranging from a pair of near 40 year old landcruisers, their Hiluxes ranging from 10-20 years old and of course their personal use 200 series. Their 40 year old 'cruisers have never had a major thing go wrong, both still running on factory drivetrain, motor and suspension. The most reliable vehicles in Australia (and the US) in terms of how often they break down are Toyotas and Lexus. So stop talking **TOTAL SHIT** www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability/most-and-least-reliable-cars-by-class/ This consumer reports list has a Ford as a least reliable. And of the 14 categories of car, Toyota takes 10 categories as most reliable. Why are you talking about pulling out stuck vehicles? That's less to do with the vehicle and more to do with the tires and the driver... Are you really that stupid? Who says diesels stall in sand or mud? Have you ever even seen or driven a common rail diesel? You're probably a povo with an imaginary car so I imagine you haven't. Oh wow you listed your running costs of your imaginary car. That's real relevant to all the lies you're spewing. Please get the fuck out of here with your bullshit, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

The jeep is lighter and has more articulation, but it still struggled at times needing the abs traction to come in, imaginif it had the weight of one of the others or lacked articulation like the others. Also I know what I would prefer on a steep rocky and slippery hill decent. Also jeep has a bad track record for reliability compared to the land cruiser for instance.

That Jeep may not of had lockers but it does have BLD (brake lock differentials) which works like a locker sending up to 50% power to the wheel with grip as it uses the ABS to apply brake pressure to the wheel that slips. Its an impressive traction control setup. I have a Rubicon with the lockers and rarely need them with the BLD.

Emjay W Dear lord no! My family has owned Landcruisers for 20 years now. I'll be buying my mother's 200 series next year most likely! I was replying to that moron who's writing all these comments calling Toyotas crap... Who are these people?? I can get not being a fan of a particular make but rabid hatred... It's hilarious.

Ronny, at minute 4:50, when you got bogged down, what did you do during that pause? What was you drivetrain status, 4Lo? Then diff lock? Just wondering what took place. Looked like it was no trouble after that pause or reset.

Ive been watching some other KZbin Channels about wheeling in AU recently . However , your videos seem to be more personal and more interactive .. I find myself comparing other videos to yours , and most dont stack up , whether its content or just the over all vibe from your group ... Keep up the good work , I enjoy watching the adventures from the US ... Maybe one day ill make my way over to AU and check it out first hand ... Until then , Ill continue to tag along on your adventures .... Safe Travels .... Ohh , and the V8 Diesels are just bad A** ... They sound awesome ...

Noticed most of the cars had wider tyres on them where the jeep had narrower tyres, In serious competition most competitors run 235/85x16s even with the military land rovers world wide they all run the skinny tyres. Great flick, thanks

Jealous of the vehicles you guys have access to in this part of the world. Nothing very comparable to that diesel patrol in the states. Love your videos, very informative to a 4X4 noob like my self

What have you done about the alternator issue? I have gone through 2 alternators now from muddy water.. Clogged up the brushes and failed to charge. Do you run a sealed unit? It is pathetic that they mounted the alternator down low instead of up high like on every other 4x4

Kaegis I had issues during the Murchison trip we did some months after. I managed to find a way to clean it without removing it. It has a plastic cover on the bottom (like a guard if you can even call it that) which is easy removed then you have the back plate which can also be completly removed. Once off you can use a tooth brush to clean it while spraying water directly on it from a garden hose or if in the middle of nowhere use a bottle of water with a small hole in the lid and squeeze the water out with force. This worked for me. Contact I also used WD40 to help clean the contacts. Its been nearly 9 months since I did this and it works fine. A sealed unit thats water cooled would be awesome but no one has any that will suit a 70.

Well done guy's good to see the patrols out there and that little jeep would be a fun fourby on those tracks. Do you engage your lockers on all climbs it would be interesting to know when there engaged ( front or back) Thanks again Ronny and boys for the video 👍

I only ever use both lockers if the rear wasn't enough the first time, mind you in that deep mud hole I was going to use both and forgot to swich them on hence I was stuck until I switched them them on. Front locker is great however they really restrict turning.

Hi there Ronnie! Why chains were not used given (I believe) you knew ground conditions.
@Ronny_Dahl

Ariel Tendeiro Chains are illegal to use in these areas and also cause mass erosion. Only time you are allowed to use chains in AUS is when you encounter snow which doesnt happen in W.A. ;)
