Our very dirty trip to the Mundaring Powerlines 4x4 track were Matt sunk the Landcruiser. FAIL!!! The Mundaring Powerlines is an off road 4x4 track in the Perth hills that is notorious for challenging the best 4x4 pro's and taking out many 4x4's in the process. its really not that bad. only real mistake was not being in 4lo all day which i always am. some people say 4hi for mud though so who knows. i also assume since at least a couple tires were stuck/bound up thats why 4lo wouldn't work. its hard to punch it in if the components are under load and have no room to maneuver into place.

@B Roll Offroad Right! If they could have gotten it to move just a foot in either direction it would have dropped into 4 lo. But 4 lo is really designed for crawling etc.I don't understand why its needed here since he wasn't climbing or anything........In 4 hi the same tires are pulling as in 4 lo they just spin faster in hi. I could be totally wrong here though and if so please feel free to educate me. Great video I'm glad the damage was minor

well most trucks and suv's will lock the center diff in 4lo only. this means that in 4hi you can still be 1WD and in 4lo there is at least power going to front and back giving you at least 2WD (one front one back).

Everybody lacking experience, some just wanted vids (well, I suppose it IS the vidiot generation), no leaders, no one with solid advice. Matt learned plenty today. 1. Engage correct gears before plunge. 2. Fix rubber door seals. 3. Get the electronics off the floor. 4. Have the snatch ready, not tucked away someplace. 5. Walk the water (in boots) to get the depth, then plunge the vehicle in. 5. Off-roading WILL cost money, just be ready to minimize the cost by careful management. Keep going Matt, you'll pick it up.

I found myself in the same predicament a few times it happens to all transfer boxes it's just the cogs are in that perfect position where the cog tops meet face to face,. Here's a some tip's, Put the vehicle in first gear clutch down, position your transfer box lever to engage low and hold pressure,. then very slowly lift the clutch the gears will move and it should pop right in.. 2nd, If a few of the guy's hanging around had rocked the vehicle with as much forward and back motion as possible it would have popped in, they could have done that from the bank.. When this happens it just needs to move back or forward the tiniest bit to pop in. example'' say you were on a steep incline' on the brakes hard' trying to engage low you would come of the brakes til you move the slightest bit and it'll pop in.. Someone there should have known that, no one knew what to do and it took way too long to get you out .. The worst of it was how you entered the water, you literally created the rut that got you stuck ,. you never enter water fast' ever, the ground is obviously soft it's under water.. I enjoyed the vid, i hope you got it sorted without too much grief, I've done plenty of stupid shit over the years that's cost me a fortune to put right..

Guy obviously doesn't use low range much. 100 Series case requires you to lift the lever, push it hard to the left then pull back...generally a 2 hand affair as well..

Looks like a fun weekend, pity about the water. I'm sure there were a few lessons learned there. You'll need to pull the seats out and pull up the floor and chuck it. New floor is the only way to go in that sitch, no lingering smell and they're not overly expensive. Door speakers might be f&^%ked but they're not that expensive either. Don't listen to horrible posters. Hope your next trip goes well.

3 inch lift may get you through a deep rutted hole full of water, but now it’s more top heavy and prone to roll especially the way hubby drives.

When "it won't go in low range" you should hit first gear or reverse, slowly release the clutch and keep pressure on the high/low stick. It will "go on low range".

Could the exhaust pipe and the air intake be modded so they're pointed upwards a few feet? Is there a way to modify the doors (and any conduits into the cab) so no water can intrude? Or maybe water proof the lower interior portions of the cab, including the electronics down there (like that CB? radio)? Also, couldn't the lead vehicle in the party scout each puddle and leave a marker indicating water depth, or maybe have someone run a half hour ahead to do this, or maybe leave a permanent depth stick in each puddle?

All Manual Locking 4x4 easily go into Low, but sometimes the gears are not lined up. Just put in Drive/Reverse for a second or less, THEN put it in LOW. ** This happens to me sometimes. The AUTO LOCK 4x4 need to move so the gears can line up. This was a good "Do Not Do This" video. Good Luck

Never engage clutch while under water, its one of the quickest ways to having to replace your clutch, and possibly the fly wheel

2 days ago almost rolled it into a bog hole, I know the feeling of the low range not wanting to engage, with the auto on the patrol You have to put it into park to change into 4H and then neutral to then get it to 4L, not sure what you have to do on the lux though. Feel sorry for you man that must have sucked being stuck in there as the water was rising inside.
