Andrew I bought a 2010 Fortuner yesterday with 79,000kms on the clock. Still has its 2010 tyres on(!), accident free with some cosmetic touch ups required. Your video convinced me it was a no brainer. Thank you for your content.

Thanks... you are right. They say the 80 was developed during Toyota's finest hour. I have a 105 - just as good as the 80 but bigger - which can have its drawbacks. I really like my 105! Fortuner such a good mix for off and on road, but many complain about its firm on-road ride. They expect the ride of a Prado with the off-road performance of a 76! It can never happen! Andrew

Crisp and clear review. I agree on the engine part this thing literally pulls from 1000 rpm and has alot of grunt. Just completed 1,00,000 kms on the truck with no issues what so ever. Only thing i miss is we in India dont get rear locker as standard.

@HotHeadCJ V8 is strong, but sensitive to poor quality diesel fuels, unlike the 6's. The Amarok is becoming a problem vehicle with recalls already - diffs, air-cons and several other problems in manufacture. I think they released it prematurely. I like the look of the vehicle.. I find it difficult to get test vehicles cause the manufacturers don't really like me much cause I tell it as I see it. I worry that it has a pretty small engine... endurance wise could be a problem. But a nice package!

In Thailand, the first model of Fortuner were plagued from too small brake disc, back seat air-con. sucking air from behind and not long you will see black dirt in your cabin (including my sister's). To credit to Toyota, these happen only some first batches which they had quickly corrected them. The minor changed Fortuner therefore comes with 17 inch and larger brake disc to get better stability and braking, new designed rear air-con, VSC, etc. This Fortuner are then better than before.

Hi Andrew, would like you to do a review on the Fortuner 2.4 and 2.8 (4x4). Recently bought a 2.4 gd6 auto 4x4. Reason for going with the 2.4 is that I do not like the additional electronic gadgets in the 2.8, and is not worth R140 000-00. The 2.8 and the Prado can not drive me away. As n matter fact, I wave the Prado goodbye on hills. But guess there is a reason for keeping the D4D in the Prado. I am very impressed by the 2.4gd6 in terms of its low revs, performance, towing capabilities, snazzy responsiveness, beautiful 6 gear auto gearbox. Still to test it off-road myself soon in Namibia. Sure it will not disappoint. Kind regards. Willie (like your overlanding experience) ( previously owned a 1999 hilux double cab 3L , non-turbo - unbreakable vehicle)

NO. I do my very best not to be biased... but If i like a product or more than one from the same manufacturer, people automatically make that assumption. I think the Fortuner is a fantastic mix of on and off roader - not as good off road as some, not as good on road as others, but a great combination of both.

@ninodrifter2 I do not know about the 4x4 market in Japan. But here it is by far the top selling SUV. Maybe it is not available in Japan. I do not think they build them in Japan, only in Malaysia/Thialand and South Africa. They are part of Toyota's International Multipurpose Vehicle Project, which includes Hilux as the base for all the models. And Hilux is the highest-selling motor vehicle in South Africa.

@AJ-qn6gd4 жыл бұрын
If it’s anything like the Hilux that it’s based on then heater is awesome also may have Hilux,s “power heat” which is an electric heater element in the heater box puts out heat until the coolant warms up, great for those frosty mornings. Don’t forget Japan is a very mountainous country that has incredible amounts of snow and I’m sure Toyota wouldn’t let there domestic market have an inferior vehicle.

@4xforum Same here about Amarok, small engine, but I guess you look a Toyota's 2.2 22r strong and lasts long if you asked and btw Jamaican roads not top spec and the is very hilly. I really like new ranger, I watched a video from their channel and said that It was being developed to run on any fuel. I worry about the quality of our diesel fuel(non low sulphur) , mainly becuase it causes hell with commanrail injectors. What do you think of commonrail diesels?

What a GREAT review! I was thinking about getting one,now I'm sure I will. But where I am I can only get the 2.5 TRD Sportivo. I just sold my 2007 Hilux with 55KMs. it still run like new. I wonder if the Diesel engines are as reliable as the petrol engines.
@josemata1612 жыл бұрын
It seems that the Fortuner is made on a refreshed version of the old Hilux (as the Hilux itself). While the new 4Runner, Land Cruiser Prado and FJ Cruiser rests on a new more refined and bigger frame. That means sturdiness, lower price, reliability and not the softest rides. That's is why is destined to developing countries markets.

I owned a 2011 tunner d4d 3.0 and loved it. i didn't do much off roading with it but i did discover that it has little break in the suspension, the 4speed auto (which i had) was sort of good, but it was missing one more gear, he talks about stability and on road is great off road i had more problems with clearance than stability, its a proper suv so dont drive it like a q5 but with 4wd always active is good, in clearence i also damaged the foot thing on the sides, the party peace is indeed the engine, its fantastic, a little less efficient than most modern competitior but it has a lot to do with having at least one less gear, i only runed it for 60k km but we have a hilux with the same engine that already passed the 140k mark and aside from normal wear its doing great, and that one is for work so the toll is higher the thing i hated the most was the dials, plainfully ugly for my taste and if you want back space you have to remove the side mounted extra seats this will also improve visibility, which i didnt know i wanted until i drop em haha, he talks about how different it behaves from a hilux, this is due to the fact that they removed the leafsprings from the back, closing the back also adds weight to the rear wheels and improves rigidity of the chassis and the 4 wheel drive is always active, in high it works more like an awd system than a 4wd but low range is avaliable to make it a proper 4wd

I own one and is satisfied. I would say it's a medium size special suv.. with balanced compromises between comfort , style and looks, luxury, and ofcourse the price. So don't compare it with other expensive trucks not in its category... Toyota still have the high end suv Prado and the larger luxury suv Land Cruiser. If you really want a real suv from Toyota, try Prado and Land Cruiser - these are larger, more powerful, luxurious, and more expensive than the Fort..

Never heard of a "fortuner" until your review. It looks like a less impressive Toyota 4runner. Do you guys have 4runners out in the safari?
@d1sturb3d1197 жыл бұрын
Its not really close to the 4runner in terms of build quality. Its mean to serve the Asian markets without necessarily being as expensive as a 4runner. It is slightly underbuilt compared to a 4 runner. Not that its a bad vehicle its just that they don't give it as thick metal, tow rating, or even as big brakes compared to a 4 runner or prado or LC.
