Is this a look at what the future holds? It's "if" not "when" Nadu gets banned, so Magic Online decided to hold an event yesterday where they ripped the bandaid off and banned Nadu!
With a $5,000 prize pool on the line, I played a version of my Gruul Eldrazi deck from the Pro Tour, let's see how I do!

‘Nadu banned’ = insta-watch. Regardless of if the card is ‘too powerful’ or not, I don’t need to watch any format where 60%+ of decks are based around one card

Yeah fair point & something I hope WOTC is thinking about. There are people way more knowledgeable about the format with mixed feelings - so I don’t have a strong opinion. However, I think as a viewer it’s less annoying because 1.) Multiple decks play the ring (vs 2-3 very, very similar Nadu decks) and 2.) the loss of life to burden counters and consequent trade off for drawing cards is a little more interesting to think about (instead of how 95%+ of the time you’d trigger Nadu where you can) .

The reason the eldrazi temple world breaker combo didnt work is because the world breaker in the graveyard is not a colorless eldrazi because its not a permanent. Unless a cards rules text specifically states “type/subtype cards” then its assumed that any type subtype pointers refer to permanents. Effectively the phrase colorless eldrazi implies colorless eldrazi permanents it has to say colorless eldrazi cards to work on cards.

Commenting for the algorithm and nadu being banned. I'm still a bit sad that The One Ring is such an auto-include in so many modern decks as well. I wonder how different it would be if you could only have one copy in your deck. Thematically it would make sense at least.

I wonder if restricting is enough. People will just play ways to reset it. It's not the same as a four-of of course, but to my mind part of the problem is that it can be reset. I'd love to see how good it'd be if instead of burden counters on The One Ring, it gave you an emblem that made you lose 1 life every upkeep. Then recasting it only gives you the protection and it just keeps stripping away your life. But that doesn't fix the Sheoldred combo either.

Usually I'd say this is a great play. They were already conceding at this point, and Thoughtseize gives them access to more information and the deck their opponent is playing. But this seems to have been an open decklist tournament, which makes this a moot point.

I have a question about the deck. After playing do you think that perhaps Thought-Knot Seer could replace mycospawn ? Honestly mycospawn looks a little out of place here, ramping yourself is not that important on turn 4 in this deck but protecting your combo my getting a counterspell out of their hand sounds a lot better one turn before you cast TTB.

I remember Jim really hating TKS while he was testing the deck, and Mycospawn fetching out Eldrazi Temple to be able to hardcast Ulamog is hugely relevant

Thought Knot Seer isn’t a good card and don’t think of this as a combo deck, the Through The Breach part of the deck is a plan B and you board it out a lot, look how good Mycospawn was in most of these matches

Modern has always been a rotating format. It was never going to be the format from 2011 forever and you know that. Just think back to all the sets that changed modern forever when they were released. Innistrad, Return to Ravnica, Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Oath of the Gatewatch, Kaladesh, Aether Revolt, War of the Spark, Throne of Eldraine, Theros Beyond Death, Ikoria, Modern Horizons 1, Modern Horizons 2, Dominaria United, Lord of The Rings, Wilds of Eldraine, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Modern changed every time these sets came out. With some sets in between maybe only adding one or two great cards. Modern has always changed, is always changing, will always change. And the format is better for it. You would not want to be playing against the same 3 decks forever.
