Today I talk about my new 5.11 Rush 24 version 2 backpack. I take you from a much different point of view than I think most people see in this bag. I show how this bag would be good for camping, hiking, bushcraft, and survival. It is an all-around good kit-making bag.

wolf pack woodcraft I'm actually looking to purchase pack this weekend. Pick looks like it has everything you need in a backpack. Looking forward to the review
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 7 жыл бұрын
+Pazz643 it is a good pack I think you will be happy with it. It also comes in a Rush 12 which is considered a 12 hour bag and a Rush 72 which is bigger than this one and is considered a 72 hour bag. I really like how 5:11 really gives a huge verity of options in the way the build their packs and the line of packs you have 3 packs that are basically the same only different sizes. It's all about the options.

I actually use the Rush 72 way more than the Rush 24. The extra space just makes packing and finding stuff way easier. $10 is crazy cheap you got super lucky.

I have both the rush 24 and the rush 72. Love them both. I use the rush 24 for school, for I was suffering with some shoulder injuries due to a previous backpack and poor shoulder positioning. Since getting both the rush 24 and the rush 72, whether I am on the road or on my way to class, they both excel in most every task I ask them to do.

I really enjoy this pack it is a perfect size for an overnight bag. The reason I don't use it all the time is that it fits everything you need for an overnighter but it doesn't fit everything I need PLUS my camera gear and test gear. I am saving up to get the Rush 72 it is a little bigger to allow room for the extra stuff I need for KZbin. Thank You so much for watching I really appreciate the support!

Great backpack, i used the 24 for a day hiking here in Argentina several times and EDC . Im still have my doubts about the top handle but i test this bag for 6 months right now and i really happy. However the 72 with back STRAPS its your opt for hiking!

I love the Rush 24 so much that I bought a Rush 72 as well. The 72 is bigger and comes with a waist belt to help put the weight of the pack on the hips instead of the shoulders. With the yoke shoulder straps and the waist belt, I have to say it is very comfortable to carry plus you get all the same pocket options as the 24 making it a great pack for anyone. Thank You so much for watching I really appreciate the support!!!

I like this version more than the 2.0. They took away a lot of the options with the 2.0. They improved on some things but I don't see it as a better option than the first gen bag.
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the new 2.0 seems like they just made it more tech compatible. With a "laptop" sleeve. They could have easily stuck with what they had and just started marketing it again as one of the best-selling backpacks. It seems like that is the only reason for the 2.0 is to try to sell more backpacks.

Nice video, but if you have the waterbottle poutch and the med pouch, i think it will be to wide because if you go hiking somewhere and you are going thru brush, the pack will get cought on everything and i would rather put the sleeping bag on the top of the bag so you are not continuously hiting your legs with the sleeping bag while you walk. But overall you have a great pack and try to explore you options.

Question: Why buying a small Pack and attach loads of stuff on it instead of buying a bigger One in the firstplace? Tbh...i like my molle too, but that wiggledi dangeling from attachments are anoying.
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you do the most often. If you need a small bag for your truck and only go camping twice a year, this bag is small and also can be added to making it big enough for camping as well. Also, you can add different gear to this pack without having to unload and repack all the time. Just keep your core items on the inside and attach your specific items to the outside depending on the trip or season. Backpacks are one of those things where everyone loves a different design for a completely different reason. I'd you ask 100 people what their favorite pack is and why, you will probably hear 100 different reasons why a pack is good or not.

What do you guys think of ultralight backpacking? And maybe using ultralight gear inside of a 5.11 bag?
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 4 жыл бұрын
The Rush series of backpacks are built very well. They will hold up over time and can handle a lot of abuse. On the other hand they are not very comfortable to carry over distance. I think a backpacking style pack would be a much better option because it will make your hike much more enjoyable.
@peakbagger2014
@peakbagger2014 4 жыл бұрын
Wolf Pack Woodcraft that’s interesting, I own quite a few bags by 5.11 but I also own a sub 2 pound ultralight backpacking backpack and I wonder if I could somehow combine the 2 gear sets for bug-out type situations. So using my 5.11 bag for the natural colors and using UL equipment to live in the bag for a week long distance foot travel. Just a thought

@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 4 жыл бұрын
In my experience, I don't feel the Rush style backpacks breath as well as mesh on the hiking style backpacks. I like the breathability and I like the load lifters on the hiking packs as well. I think if I was bugging out I would want the Rush pack because I would have to rely on it for a long period of time. It would be all I had for who knows how long and the mesh and lighter material of the hiking style backpacks could rip and be devastating in that kind of situation. However, when it comes to backing and hiking I will rather be as comfortable as possible. I don't need it to last weeks on end in unknown conditions. I will be in a much more controlled environment that I can better take care of my gear. I don't think there is one pack to rule them all. Each one has its pros and cons that cater better to different situations.

wolf pack woodcraft all the weight is gonna be on your shoulders if u fill this pack up to 40 lbs with even minimal camping gears..you really cant think about attaching sleeping bag or tent. its not designed for that matter. basically its a gear storage bag for police or medics. its a go if u carry this pack from car to work. its got a single short aluminum bar with plastic board..makes the pack rigid..not for any sort of load carrying capacity..its one of the TACTICAL PACKS, NOT FOR CAMPING OR HIKING..even though using this kind of pack is cool..in my case, I use ILBE for my backpacking trips or camping.
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 7 жыл бұрын
The Rush 24 is designed as an overnight bag. I think you are thinking of the Rush 12 which you are correct it is much lighter and not as robust as the 24 and definitely not as heavy duty as the Rush 72 which is a 3-day bug out style bag. The Rush 24 isn't big enough to fit 40lbs of gear inside if that is how you camp or hike I would suggest the Rush 72 and even then I'm not sure you would wanna hike or camp carrying that much weight on your back.
@militarygearjunkie2522

wolf pack woodcraft 5.11 company says its a 24 hour pack..thats what they say in a tactical perspective or for military personnels which is for carring ammo, food and water..I even tried bigger bag called Rush 72 but honestly it was a crap I tried 25~35 lbs of hiking gears but all the loads were sitting on my shoulders which was not comfortable at all. like I said, if you wanna store gears neat and tidy, its a go. but using them as hiking bags? not bad.. for camping? absolutely No No NO u need framed packs like old school ALICE or ILBE with good suspension system on your hips.

This was my first impressions video from when I first got this pack back in March of this year. I left the tags on it on purpose so that you and everyone else could clearly see that I had no dirt time on this bag and I was talking strictly from bags I have used in the past and not experience with this pack itself. I have been using the Rush 24 for some time now and I still love this pack and think it is very comfortable. So much so that I have ordered the Rush 72 which will give me the space I need not only for my camping gear but my camera gear as well. Thank You so much for watching if you are looking for a good pack I would still suggest the Rush 24 as a good day or overnight pack.

Version 2 ???
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 3 жыл бұрын
This is the standard version now but when I made this video it was an upgraded backpack from the original Rush 24. This version has more molle webbing and the main zippers now have rain flaps, the straps are wider and there are fasteners to add a hip belt on this version. They also added loops on the bottom which I was really excited to see especially since it holds my wool blanket. Like I said this is all standard now but if you get a really old Rush 24 some of these things might be missing.

@@newageselfreliance : i didnt know that they upgraded this backpack! My rush 24 is about 4 years old now and it has all the thing you said they upgraded it. I think that the rush series is always the same since about 10 years!?

Você pode colocar uma bexiga de água 2lt na parte de trás do pacote e passar a mangueira pelo pacote. Não há bexiga incluída. Você terá que comprar algo separado.

Dude you have never used that pack, so review is a little frail in real time use. Still has the labels on the zippers and original 5.11 sales literature label.

@newageselfreliance 7 жыл бұрын
+Elfin4 I left the labels on so you knew it was a first impressions video. I have used this bag a few times for day hikes and shooting random videos. It hold everything I need it to I just wish it was a little bigger to hold my camera gear as well. For a normal day hiker it would be perfect but for day hiking with full camera gear it doesn't fit everything.

Yeah I'm onto my second Rush 24. I find them good as an every day pack, but once loaded I feel the yoke is uncomfortable across the shoulders. With light weight it is ok though. As for compartments internally and the mole system, no complaints there. I also don't think there should be drain holes in the main compartment, only at the bottom of the water reservoir space.

+Elfin4 I was really excited about all the compartment and options this bag had to offer specially for my camera equipment, but once I load in my gear for hiking and my review gear it gets to heavy and the pockets kinda get in the way at that point. It's a great pack I would never do a bad review on one it just doesn't fit what I need it for but I don't do what most everyone else does either.

I find the pack uncomfortable over the shoulders when loaded and wearing only a thin shirt. Sits very close to the back so creates sweat on your back,so would be better to increase the padded areas on the back to help increase space between bag and back; it needs hip belts and should have been supplied with them for the cost of this bag. Don't understand the holes in the bag when 5.11 use a waterproof type material to keep water out, why have the holes. I have duck tape on both sides of the holes, but probably would have been good idea to have small weep holes at the bottom of the hydration pocket. I also added the 5.11 compression straps to this bag. Overall not impressed with the bag for comfort but can't complain about the internal compartments, theres plenty of choice.

Well whats the point of reviewing if your not prepared to give an honest review and honest feedback. Thats exactly what everyone wants to read the good and the bad so they can make an informed decision for themselves.
