I hate that 5.11 also clearly gave a fuck ton of these out to Hollywood prop departments for advertising because their proliferation in mid or garbage tier tactical/military shows and movies is ridiculous. I think I first remember seeing one in 13 Hours and then after that it's like every other show or movie that needed an actor wearing a plate carrier, the 5.11 Tac-Tec would rear its ugly head again. If it wasn't a Tac-Tec it was an MOPC, or the garbage airsoft repros of the CIRAS and FSBE AAV-QR. The Four Plate Carriers of the Apocalypse.

@@EODFish I just came out of a USASOC course and one of the individuals I worked with wore a 5.11 Tac Tec for the field portion. The cummerbund failed to adequate support the weight of their 152 Radio and the plates severely sagged in their bags because of the crappy material after multiple days being in the cold, wet, and muddy NC training NTA. The plates in general sat even lower when paired with a ruck because of their flawed Quick-release system. It held up worse than any of the Condor plate carriers I've seen in FTXs. Would not reccomend at all in it's price range.

It's funny because I actually loved this plate carrier. I'm 6 '3 so maybe it's better for taller people. It's super comfortable and the material aged well under rough conditions. The way the breast plate area is shaped I always had plenty of room for my rifle buttstock to press against my shoulder pocket. Only complaint is the admin Velcro patch! If you have any weight in pouches on the torso area it will undo the Velcro and hang that's why I like the admin zipper on the agilite as opposed to Velcro. Other than that awesome plate carrier people just like to hate on them because cross fit people use them aswell.

Interresting sort of review. I do agree on the shoulder straps, which should have been adjustable. Given it is a what, 15 year old design? Or around that. In an enviroment that is so adaptive, it does not surprise me that you're critical of it. However, considering we were doing body armour and chest rigs at the time this was released, and that the JPC was a real innovation at the time, the TacTec doing wacky things doesn't surprise me, nor does it ageing so poorly. It is still a workable carrier for sure, but would not be on my top 50 pc list. Having seen it be used by those Russian SF dudes in Syria, and it being worn by US Rangers on occasion when they didn't spring for the original JPC (or maybe they got it handed down, idfk?) Makes me confident that it works in adverse conditions. Definitively highlighted alot of my complaints with mine though. Too bad I hadn't read more around before getting into the carrier game. Could have avoided the TacTec and JPC (original) and the AA pcs all together. Good video, definitively interresting to hear opinions.

I've used this plate carrier for quite a while, and there are some things i wish they'd improve, for example I don't like how the QD handle dogs into my neck of its on the inner velcro panel, but if it's outside it gets caught on shit but there ways around that, in the marines were always doing our own modifications to our issued plate carrier like using 550 cord to cinch down the plate bag, so with very minor mods this is a good plate carrier.

I've never had a problem getting my plates to fit perfectly and it's been abused heavily and never failed me. I've tried other plate carriers and there are better ones but you'll pay a premium. At the time of it's release I'd argue that this is one of the best at it's price point
@EODFish4 ай бұрын
@Furiousgerbil if “you’ll pay a premium” is your reasoning, how much was your Tac-Tec new?
@LDRTHNU12 күн бұрын
I love my tac tec and wear it on duty. No issues at all going on a year strong of heavy use/ abuse and training. Is there better out there of course. But for the price point and flexibility with how you can set it up. You can't beat it just get over it. Everybody's build type is different. And instead of real problems and issues you wanna complain about adjustability 🤦🏼♂️get it setup properly and actually put some use to it and then review😒

Sometimes I wonder if 5.11 even wants to be a tactical gear company or just an apparel company. Their backpacks have been getting steadily less "tactical" for a while now.
@EODFish11 ай бұрын
I think their designers are part time dudes that also work at Kel-Tec. 5.11 just gets them in the office as the high is wearing off.

I heard the boogloo boys in Civil War hit 5.11 for those dope ass button downs they love to wear, before immediately walking out of the store and getting shot in the pelvic bowl.
@thewiredfox269127 күн бұрын
Be a little more specific with "less tactical." I want a functional bag/pack, but I don't really want camo and molle/pals all over. I'll never buy a "military looking" tactical bag ever, but if they cut out the BS, I'll take a look.

@thewiredfox2691 that’s not what Hop was getting at. 5.11 is low pro in capes, not in looks.

I never understood the hate around them. I've been running this carrier for about 6 years and I love it. Most of the critiques are unfounded and aren't a problem from personal experience. My only critique is it obviously caters to bigger people so I wouldn't recommend it unless you're over 6 ft tall but I love how much real estate it has and the fact that you can run large plates. It's been abused heavily and never failed me. I've tried other plate carriers and there are better ones but you'll usually pay a lot more. At the time of it's release I'd argue that this is one of the best at it's price point. NEVER had a problem with attachments or plates of any kind NEVER experienced discomfort that you wouldn't get from other plate carriers over time NEVER had a failure of any kind Love the features like the elastic cumberbunds, quick detach handle and extended drag handle. (which were exclusive to this plate carrier AT RELEASE.) BTW you CAN adjust the shoulders and you have WAY more room than you suspected. I can obviously tell that you actually haven't put any time or experience behind this plate carrier and it shows

I didn’t acknowledge it because it isn’t anchored in reality but more importantly, I can’t actively comment on every single comment. You are clearly defending your sunk cost. My concerns on this plate carrier are based on extensive time using a variety of platforms.
@SourpatchAirsoft2 ай бұрын
@@EODFish ohh didn't hesitate to acknowledge that comment I see. Have 6 years of experience with this specific product but it isn't an anchored in reality? You're only points I can get behind is that the plate carriers massive & the space above the back plate is stupid, everything else you said holds absolutely no weight. You didn't even know how to adjust the shoulder straps all the way and you make a lot of wrong assumptions in the video. A lot of what you said was just assumptions because you didn't even have the necessary time in the plate carrier. Yet I'm the one that's not anchored in reality? What a joke!😂

Bought one of these years ago, still use it but only for carrying weighted plates. I have two 20lb plates in it. Use it for hiking, been trying to figure out what to replace it with once it wears out. People look at me like I'm crazy when wearing it. Not sure if they just can't believe someone would do those things while wearing weights or if it just looks to tactical to them and they think I'm a weirdo preparing for the apocalypse.
@CodeTriple99 ай бұрын
I also like to wear my plate carrier and the rest of my gear whenever I go hiking mostly to test out and see if there's anything wrong with my gear or comms, however the faces on the people that I encounter when on my hikes/tests are absolutely hilarious, some people would compliment and most people would stop their car and full on stare at me as if they are going through a military checkpoint, from what I can say most people will definitely look at you weirdly but most of them find it rather 'cool' and not bother you in any bad way so yes, i definitely feel you man. 😂👌

It’s a CrossFit carrier lol and shitty over priced one at that. One of my soldier bought one, so I challenged him to make it functional for our role as a medic. It…..worked but it rides bad for actually wanting reliable protection.

@@EODFishI have crye AVS and tactec. Of course, AVS is the best, but tactec is not that bad in my mind. I use it in long range missions with minimalistic set up (level 3 plates, 4 mags, 3 tourniquets, mini dangler and roll med pouch). Shoulder straps were regulated to keep plates the correct way on my body. No problems. Also, I've changed cummerbands to normal one (jpc style with ROC). And changed loop on the front to the normal one. I had different pc, duty armored vests. That's not the worst one. It's ok, even good. But cummerbands and loop are really shitty, that's true

One feature I wish my Crye SPC had is a way to hold down the corners of the molle panel. My rifle sling sometimes gets under the corner and peels it open.

My big jssue with 5.11s nylon gear (aside from what you pointed out) is the price tag. Mosf of their stuff costs quite a bit more than the Condor equivalent, with about the same (maybe slightly better) quality. Condor's products are leaps and bounds better than they used to be, so 5.11s cost to quality ratio is abysmal for many of their products. I know it's not the best PC on the market, but I've seen a lot of people absolutely thrash the Condor MOPC, and if i had to spend less than a bill on an overt PC, that's not the worst thing in the world. I went with a Grey Ghost Gear PC since it was reasonably well made and on sale (i was pretty broke at the time). Threw some HSGI should pads on it and it works well for what I need.

You are getting what you pay for, but the shoulder strap are properly padded, 100% adjustable and the whole carrier has very good air flow. It's obvious that you never actually spend enough time with this carrier except on the table.

This was my first plate carrier. Still have it, seems okay to me as a minimalist build. It’s held up well. But I don’t use it as a “heavy” or full out plate carrier. I have some level 3 plates in it and kinda renegaded it as a “lightweight” pc. Like a chest rig with some armor capacity. I have 4 mags across the front, a dump pouch and IFAK, and it’s pretty minimalistic. Pretty light carrier build. I definitely wouldn’t pay full price. I’m running a Shellback Banshee 3.0, and it’s a lot more conducive to tactical considerations.
