The U.S. Military uses the M4A1 as it's standard issue weapon. The last branch to primarily use the M16 was the Marines in 2015. The M4 was chosen because of it's balanced size able for close and medium range, instead of the MP5 ans M16. M16A4 is still in service but is limited to non-infantry Marines, Army Reserves, and deck Sailors. The M16A2, the most iconic in the U.S. Military, is an even rarer sight.

Actually the full stock M16 is still in use with some branches I believe USMC because some reservists still issue the burst fire M16A4 as their main weapons although even then M4s have long took their place

The M16 was originally known as the AR-15 which was made by Armalite back in the 1950s as a replacement for older WW2 era weapons the US military was using then such as the M1 rifle, The first tests went up against the M14 which was adopted just prior to Vietnam and in later the rights for the weapon were sold to Colt then adapted as the M16 in the mid 1960s with the branch receiving them the Air Force then the Army and Marines during the war as reports of the M14 were somewhat negative due to length and recoil.

I hit 9 out of 10 bullseyes from 500 yards with my M16. For me that was awesome. Had to make a couple adjustments because of wind. But yes this assault rifle is effective.

People usually take that as it can't take much. Not true. The guns can definitely be abused quite a bit. Maybe just shy of AK long term durability but that is still pretty good. The M16 is one of the best weapons made ever. No question.

Takes too long and u need dental tools to clean it. My Valmet M76 I take 2 minutes to wipe and run a patch in bore after 500 rds. Gun never fails me. I sold my AR to buy the M76.

Cool . Don't forget every fourth round on the ground . Those tracer rounds can really dirty up a barrel. Just something my friend told me . He also said he would gladly sacrifice that micro meter more of precision if he could use a m16 to row a conue like he can with a AK. A lot of military people say this I think.

You're wrong about the A3. That rifle is just the A2 but in full auto like the A1 before it. The A4 has the detachable carrying handle and is still in burst fire

When I was in the army a guy who was there tried to shoot himself he put his m16 on his chest and pull the trigger the bullet when out of his back he didn’t die the blood was like blue he had Internal bleeding went straight to the hospital even army expert said if it was an ak 47 bullet the guy is long gone the bullet of the ak explode kill u quickly than m16 . Shoot them in the head with m16 Is effective . I prefer to have a bigger bullet and a weapons that doesn’t jam and Russian made

No matter how U.S miltary change to HK416,M27,FN Scar, Sig,General Dynamics, Textron include the 1980's ACR test units. In the end the U.S military will still buying the Colt M16. A good quality that nothing comes close. Colt M16 is in-replaceble as the most accurate rigle on earth that easily hits what you want. Not matter how other Arms maker like FN and Knight xlone the M16 buy still cannot achieve the results of the colt M16. A trade secret that Colt will not share.

I used to wish the British army had decided to use the M16 after the SLR was retired. The SA80, or L85a1was shit. The a1 was a joke, in my experiance, with stopages for any number of reasons. But the a2 came along, and it was a much better piece of kit. Me and my mates began to trust the weapon. Unfortunatly , I was retired before the a3. Any lads or lassies on here used it?

Don't hold your breath. The USMC just adopted the M27 IAR in 5.56x45 and none of the other services are talking about switching to 6.8mm. That would mean that the Army would be the only US military service using the 6.8mm. That makes no sense at all.

I can provide you with details and models if you'd like. The main modles are the XM16E1, M16A1, M16A2 and M16A4. The M16A3 wasnt used very often and is essentially a full auto M16A4.

I was looking for a response like this. Wasn't disappointed. I've owned three ARs over the years with almost 4k rounds between them. Never ever had any jams. Don't believe everything you hear. Also, mind shock, the AK is not the indestructible thing you might have been led to believe. If you do not clean it at some point, you will have failures.

Bruh the only difference between a wolf upper and a standard di upper is the gas system. The fire control group, BCG, and buffer system are identical. If I was to choose a piston-driven AR-pattern rifle I'd chose the German HK416 over the Taiwanese T91 any day. Also, Wolf isn't the manufacturer of T91s they're just the importers.

The most deadly version are the earlier AR-15 & M16A1 originally made by the colt company. Since the 2002 Iraq gulf war 2. M16s made by other brand were not reliable. The Colt AR-15 & M16A1 was fully automatic, 1/9 or 1/12 tiwst barrel spinning the round to reach high velocity speed. AR-15 & M16A1 still can be use today , it just need a trackpoint fire control computer scope. Theres no need the MIL-STD-1913 or STANAG 2324 Picatinny RIS rail with sophisticated accessories.
