Dang cylinder deactivation and Mopar soft cam strikes again. First thing I did when I got my '15 Chevy was lose the AFM via tune. I change the oil at 4-5K too. It's said that idling these Mopar engines a lot hurts too.

Well I got 170,000 miles out for Hemrietta before the lifter roller seized and wiped the cam. #8 cylinder is where it happened. What kinda oil pressure does your LS carry? Have you thought about upgrading to a high volume oil pump? The Hellcat oil pump is a good preventative measure for "HEMI tick." So a good Melling HV pump should help prevent common issues in the LS family.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 That also helps the LS and rod bearings. To much G's with the momentary lose of oil will get you every time. Beside an accumulator for "hard" driving a high volume and quality oil is a must if you beat on it or upgrade ol LSs.
@Hillbillygarage12154 ай бұрын
Yeh, an accumulator for your race car is a great idea. I am a truck guy so I don't run those track car set ups. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

This failure has nothing to do with mds unlike the Chevy dod system.
@davidphillips3953Ай бұрын
MDS did not cause that. The side to side play is normal. The problem is the updated roller bearing they came out with in 2009. It is not an oiling issue at all. It is not a soft cam issue either, try rolling the other 15 lifters on a piece of glass and you will hear some of them not rolling smooth but not yet eating the cam, one the roller stood then the lobe gets eaten.
@Hillbillygarage1215Ай бұрын
I agree with you about the MDS. Number 8 is where we lost the lifter. I am on the fence on the oiling issues. Granted lifters fail in many locations but #8, being tucked in the end, might get less splash than in the middle of the motor. High idle and lower oil pressures seem to be consistent with lifter failure. So I just don't know what to think. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage and please keep coming back.

Was the vehicle seeing a lot of idling?
@Hillbillygarage12154 ай бұрын
W.Khairi, no, we never let it idle much at all. The longest ever would be how ever long it takes to hook up a utility trailer or drop the camper. Other than that, no idling.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 I heard excessive idling was the killer of those HEMIs, perhaps it wasn't the case with its previous owner.

A lot of police Depatments mechanics use 10/40 and raise the idle from 550 rpm to 750 rpm .

I put a Hellcat oil pump in my 2500 RAM with a 6.4. It carries amazing oil pressure now.

Big problem with Cam/ Lifters 5.7 Hemi Rams...Think ahead and go 6.4 or Cummins...
@Hillbillygarage12154 ай бұрын
My 2500 has a 6.4 in it. It got a cam and lifters just before I bought it. The previous owner made mistakes that left me with very low oil pressure. Ol' Red now has a Hellcat oil pump in it and makes phenomenal oil pressure. My 1500 has ran 170,000 miles before dropping the lifter and wiping the cam. I am a big fan of both the 5.7 and 6.4

Well explained other words that 5.7 hemi is junk

It is aggravating, but I still love these HEMI'S. Hemrietta is eat up with power. She gets really good fuel mileage, even pulling camper.

Chrysler had an intern design the oiling system on these engines. Nothing you can do to fix it.
@Hillbillygarage12154 ай бұрын
I put a hellcat oil pump in my 6.4. Sky, from Reignited, strongly believes increased oil flow is a highly possible preventative measure that just might cure the problem.

You are 100% correct. I trusted the manufacturer recommendations BUT I have learned that it is too long, too many miles. I will be 5000 or less from here on out. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage hope to see you back soon.
