I'll agree the 6.7 is a better engine IF you delete the emissions. Our 09 was only getting 10 to 15 mpg when it was new. It only had slightly more power than my 5.9. After the warranty was up we had a delete done with a 40 hp chip. 20 mpg pulling a gooseneck horse trailer. In mountain driving, empty I've hit 27mpg. The old 12v were a different kind of good. They require much less to keep running good. They are not loaded up with a bunch of electronics. The injectors out last common rail injectors by 150,000 mile and cost much less money.

Thank you stating this. 12 valve is for the actual working man. Ranchers, farmers, oil man. Longevity and lower repair costs. Not for pavement princesses

I like the 5.9 just for the lack of garbage emissions controls and reliability. The 6.7 is great but explain the heroic champion slapping of the injector against the piston that's attached to the 6.7. It's a great engine but not flawless. The 6.7 turbo is nice as well.

@@ReignitedAuto what is your opinion on people that say the reason why engines today are built so complicated and annoying/retarded, is so that most people will have to bring their vehicle to a dealership rather then them being able to work on it themselves? I know some of this is real because of the complicated computers/computer systems that vehicles have today. if someone doesn't have a multi thousand dollar code reader, it makes it almost impossible to do your own work on the car Today. am I correct on that?

@@nexpro6118as a dodge guy myself, they are million Mile motors, no emissions equipment strapped to them, and if taken care of are virtually free of major problems. (As far as the actual engine itself goes 😂) the auto trans, electronics, HVAC are more prone to issues though. And body rust.

Another thing to add is Cummins INC believes so much in their motors they have a “million mile club” you can get badges to put on your truck every 100,000 miles you hit starting with 200,000 I think.

@Reignited - Cycle and Automotive it is but I feel you are missing the point. The new beetle will never have the nostalgia that the original vw bug did for one reason. It can't go back in time and earn its place in history. The 5.9 24 valve literally saved dodge from certain doom. With that said I too feel that the 6.7 is far superior than the 5.9 But better? I believe Cummins went with the 6.7 is not because there are flaws with the 5.9 but due to the hp race, Ford,Chevy and Dodge were after more and more power and the only way to get reliable power is displacement .

Nope. If they added the exact same external emissions components to the 5.9 as they have the 6.7 it would pass just fine. They upped the displacement because all the other major manufacturers were going bigger and they needed their tow ratings to match up.

The 12v gets all those miles and reliability but the 6.7 is better because it's newer and gets more power?? What!?
@ReignitedAuto
@ReignitedAuto 2 жыл бұрын
It's just my opinion, but there's literally no comparison between what a 12V can pull, and what a modern 6.7 can pull. It's making literally 4 times the power of the old 12v engine, and if you take the emissions stuff off you can still get 15-16mpg out of it, how is that not an improvement? Sure you can build up a 12v to make serious power, at which point it is subject to all the reliability issues of any other engine when pushed past it's designed specifications. I know there are some out there who are perfectly happy with the stock power of a 12v, and you're right, they'll do 500k miles without breaking a sweat. But for me, I'd like to get someplace sometime this century, not to mention with my eardrums intact 😄

How dare you! You find the only broken 5.9 known to man and then claim that it isn’t the greatest engine ever built? How dare you. And you seem a little confused your supposed to find a good 5.9 in a bad shipping crate and put it in place of a 6.4..... oh well at least it isn’t in a truck that has more moving parts in the front end than than there are stars in the universe.
@stevethomas5209

I don't agree . The 6.7 is a 6.7 because they had to make a slightly larger motor to compensate for the emissions egr ect. Arguably it's just more because it had to be not a better motor.
@ReignitedAuto

The 6.7 is better in every measurable metric, and with the same reliability as the famed 5.9 version. Literally it's the same engine, it just is slightly larger, which makes it better. My opinion anyway.

@ReignitedAuto
@ReignitedAuto Жыл бұрын
First of all, you're comparing apples to oranges. The 6.7 Cummins is merely an updated and oversize version of the 5.9 Cummins, not an entirely different engine. And my point stands, the 6.7 is a far superior engine versus the 5.9 it makes more power and more torque and is just as reliable, and yet it's quieter. How is that not better?

@Mark Police it's kind of like comparing the Chevy 350 to the Chevy LS series, you'll have the die hard supporters of the classic small block, but almost everyone can see the LS is a better engine in every way. Technology progresses, and to like the previous generation more just because it's what you're used to is short sighted, that's why I have trouble with the 5.9 zealots. ESPECIALLY the 12v psychos 😆
@markpolice3585
@markpolice3585 Жыл бұрын
@Reignited - Cycle and Automotive Yeah. That's definitely true. The 350 is good but the LS is definitely better. I think the appeal of the 5.9 is its simplicity. But I'd rather have reliability.
