Ow one thing I forgot to add! 🙃 There's a big ergonomic reason behind deleting items by clicking on them with a mouse modifier. I was tired of selecting items and reaching all the way to the right to press the delete key. With this method, I am able to leave my left hand on the left side all the time and just point and click whatever I want to delete. And since it’s a mouse modifier and not a single key shortcut on the left side, it feels as safe as the delete key to me. Less steps and less movements!

Nice vid! I did most of these things but slightly different. I noticed my W key was unbound so I moved my delete key to there. I now use media item bottom half razor area and delete with W. Very fast and makes for a world of difference!

I'm pretty new to Reaper/Production/Mixing and I have to say that these tips were helpful, but I wasn't aware that there were top and bottoms of the media items. That explains a lot of why I was having a hard time replicating actions I had managed to perform, then have to figure out how I did it. I don't think it was the lesson you were trying to teach, but its a lesson I learned. Thanks for this video.

Thank you very much! Please, do you know a way to pick a sample sound (a kick, for example) browsing into the Media Explorer addressing a MIDI item to the Media Explorer? I mean, it would be cool to be able to open a folder full of kick sounds and just scroll them using the down arrow key when the MIDI item keeps sending notes to the Media Explorer... So we can see if that kick (or any other sound) really match...

I'm confused by moving waveforms (or 'item content') as shown at 5:42. Let's say you move the waveform past the boundary of the split... it then disappears and does what... loops back around? What is the default behavior of a split? Does it move the subsequent waveform information back to it's original recorded place within the media item? As you move your crossfade backward and forward, sometimes you see a transient popping out, but I always get confused... is that from the waveforms from the left of the split, or the right?
@Reapertips2 жыл бұрын
Hello! - the item content does not loop back, it simply just moves infinitely, at one point you will meet the end and from that point on is just blank. I think what may be confusing is that the default behavior of REAPER items when extended is to loop. I have this option disabled. You can disable it in Preferences > Media Item Defaults > and uncheck all Loop Source boxes.

How do I make a split with mouse click instead of key click. I want to emulate the razor in Audtion.
@Reapertips11 ай бұрын
If you have the action "Item: Split item under mouse cursor" in your toolbar, you can right click on it and this will "arm it". That means that this item will happen every time you click. Then once you are done you can right click on it to disable it.
@ShlomirBareket11 ай бұрын
@@Reapertips thanks, I will try this tonight.. What would be *really cool* is if there was an icon that had scissors, so you just click on it and it engages a cutting tool/pointer. Adobe Audition has this and it makes editing/cutting/splitting whatever the syntax is, so easy and logical. Similar to video editing.

Do you do 1-on-1 consulting? I am loving Reaper, but I'm coming from years of using Adobe Audition Editor Mode for voice over work for myself and others. I'm beginning to realize that what I'm hoping to recreate in Reaper, especially how copy/paste works in AA Editor Mode, might not be possible, but would love to see if you might be able to have some ideas. i'm partial to ableton, but you're also correct, entirely. especially for those of us 'under the hood' types. also reaper takes 3 seconds to launch. 5 seconds on first launch. Live takes a minute on first launchm 15 seconds every time, after that. That's too long. Now, I've had certain plugins crash reaper without recovery , so I'm not sure it's any more stable than ableton but sometimes i don't wanna wait a minute, or more, for my daw to launch. i've used reaper on linux live usb situations, and it's always fast. and i'm talkng 20 year old laptops with dead hard drives. ableton wins with its session view, though, although i might pay for that plugin that turns reaper to ableton, forget the name. i like kenny's 'session view' video, and if i am ever without a windows computer, will use those tips ( i had no windows computer for five years. i'm stupid with money. drugs are more important than a good computer)
