Had a question or 2 about some of the other aircraft. Figured I'd give a rundown here. The one thing missing from the video I wanted to do, but ran out of time, was to do a quick interview with each aircraft owner and their aircraft. My S7 has a lot of custom mods, most documented on the channel, but the quick rundown is an Edge Performance EP912STi engine with a prototype high altitude turbo setup. Robert's gear, S-20 flap handle, 29's bushwheels, etc. The Red S-21 has a 180hp Titan, and Desser tires. The green S-20 has an Edge Performance EP912STi engine, the S-6 has a one off, custom, huge wing built by the owner, and has a 100hp 912ULS. It weights like 650 lbs empty and performs very well with a stock HP engine. The S-19 has a 100hp Rotax, and of course, the coolest mod of all - a horn!! -T

I would say the wingtip was around 30ft away. Wide angle camera does distort things a little too. Not many places you can get up that close to something, and still have 500-1000ft below you that's open... it's an interesting experience for sure! I love that "3 dimensional" flying where you are really down in it. Like the canyon approach into hidden splendor... I rolled it over and into the canyon fast, power to idle, glide all the way in. Touched the throttle just a bit off the end as I picked up some burbles.. but had the runway made from up top... yet you get to be down in the canyon the whole way, really exciting flying, and yet, pretty safe not needing power to reach the strip. Can't do that many places.... Thanks Edward. -T

Thank you my friend. This one did take some time, and I had to export it 5 times before it was over to get the sound issues worked out - still having lots of trouble with that stupid issue where the sound wont export for a small piece of the video, it will be random each time I export. Known bug that Adobe won't fix. But all good! The S19 is pretty impressive, Glenn can stuff that thing in some pretty tight spots!!!

We were in there about a year and a half ago. It was a backup potential camp spot for this trip. We convinced the 3 that left Dirty Devil to stop in there on their way back to camp, I think Erik rolled it and said it was pretty rough on one end, so they didn't end up landing. Sounds like it might need a little work after winter. Neat spot though for sure, nice piece of river there!

Was the red plane and s-20? Or an s21? Do you know what engine it had? Your plane sure seems awesome!
@GravityKnightFlying2 жыл бұрын
That is an S-21, with the 180hp Titan 340. It performs great and we can't keep up with him when in cruise. The 21 doesn't have the gear to handle moderate to heavy off airport, and it won't slow down as much as my 7, 20, or S6... but overall it is a very well rounded machine, does great in the backcountry, hauls a load and has a very large flight speed envelope!

How many hours would it take a 4WD to get out there from the nearest large town/city.
@GravityKnightFlying2 жыл бұрын
So some of these spots don't have road access (Mexican Mountain where we camped, dirty devil, happy canyon don't. But Hidden Splendor does have a road out there.... I asked someone who drove out once and they said it was an hour or 1.5hrs to a town if I remember correctly. Hanksville, Cainville, Green River are all towns in the general area - not sure which is the closest by road). Mineral Canyon (not featured in this video) has a road to it as well, and would be a neat spot to drive out to.. so check on that one as well.

when you are flight planning what are the winds that are show stoppers?
@GravityKnightFlying2 жыл бұрын
If it's just me.. 25ish+ in the mountains and I'll usually pass. I've had 60mph winds in the mountains that were smooth wasn't supposed to be that strong, or would not have been up there). I've also been beat to crap with 15mph winds.. depends in so many factors. Typically where it gets exciting is when you have convective winds in the warmer parts of the year. Out on the flatter lands another 5-10mph is usually manageable. I've flown backwards a few times and it was fairly smooth... so it really depends on the type of wind. In the mountains is you really have to be cautious as it gets amplified and can be completely disgusting. Of course if I have two days to fly, and one is calmer, I'll choose that - Long turbulent days are not a ton of fun. But, it's windy here most of the time (blowing up to 90mph not far from here today actually), so I have learned to deal with it. I am a firm believer that calm seas don't make skilled sailors as they say... the question is how to no bite off more than you can chew.. that's the challenging part. Push it, and be challenged... to a point! The forecasts are usually wrong, so you will get stuck in it eventually here and need to be ready. Thanks for the question Mark -T

@timstephenson33412 жыл бұрын
Fab video, really enjoyed the content and very well put together. There are some really remote looking spots out there but invariablely there is a road in the bottom of the canyon. Why would someone go to the substantial effort of doing this? I'm guessing they were miners but what was the mineral/ore they were looking for?
@GravityKnightFlying2 жыл бұрын
I think your right - I believe a lot of those old roads and trails were for mining. Not 100% sure, but I think some of them were for Uranium
