There's not really such a thing as oldest species. Every lineage has spent as long as every other lineage to get to the point it has today. There may be strong genetic differences despite the appearance seeming constant. Even the rediscovered coelecanth has continued to evolve since its prehistoric origins and likely couldn't reproduce with its kind if you sent it back 1 million years, making them different species. The older coelecanth more like a proto coelecanth. The closest thing to what you want would be to go for the lineages that split from others as far back as possible. That doesn't mean they're anything like the thing that split from others, though. For example the original horse family is unrecognizable compared to what we know today. If you just went for oldest species, meanwhile, you would hit relatively modern lineages because they may have only differentiated once instead of the continual differentiation and occasional extinctions found in older lineages.

You need a captive mother animal 🦏 to clone another The failure rate of removing DNA and replacing it is horrific Dolly took 276 failed attempts 🐑 While fertilizing eggs with sperm is a well established science So no point with current technology A wild animal needs parents to learn to survive. If an issue with Javan Rhinos is genetic diversity, couldn’t some genetic material from Rhinos in Africa be brought in to widen the gene pool?
@jase1231112 жыл бұрын
no.. because they are a totally different species. It would be unlikely they could interbreed, and if they did they would be hybrids... and probably infertile. A better idea might be to use the closely related Indian Rhino. But if they did that then again the species would be a hybrid. Sadly, I think it will eventually go extinct. They could then use the Indian Rhino to replace its role in the ecosystem. But, realistically, if they can't protect the one species that they have now, it will be even more difficult in the future with population growth and more environmental damage.
