The turning light... I've always forgot to turn them off during the first 2 months or so from riding... I felt so noob back then, my solution was not to turn them on anytime.... I was too much focused handling the bike to be busy with indicators. Eventually i got full control of the bike so i started using lights, horn, etc... Sometimes it happens again, i'm very used to car blinkers since they are automatically shut off

I push the indicator switch in, canceling my already off indicator instead of horn. Works great to share my opinion while yelling over my motor with my visor down still holding the bars. They always seem to ignore me.

It's like a tic for me at this point... riding along, left thumb slides forward and clicks the center of the indicator switch. Weird thing is it's ever so SLIGHTLY sticky so if I haven't hit it in a while, (even if the blinker isn't engaged) it makes that "click" feeling which makes me think the stupid thing WAS still on... odd when it's an unconscious motion and my conscious brain registers it... "CLICK" no, I checked it a few seconds ago, that was the sticky... grumble grumble.

I've made it a habit to push the indicator off right before I shift gears out of the turn. Then about 14 more times before my next turn... if I see someone with it on, I'll get in front of them and leave mine on so they're thinking, "haha look at this dumbass." Which makes it even better to see them glance down and shake their head..

No bro... never ever, under any circumstances let someone else ride your bike. There are a very few exceptions. For example I might be asking for trouble,(I will have full coverage with a $1000 deductible) but I asked my dad if he wanted to go with me to pick up my new "21" gsxr1000r(275 miles each way) like the road trips we did in the old days when I was young. I am buying it for myself for my 50th birthday so dad is a healthy 240lbs at 72. I asked him if he wanted to throw a leg over it when I get it home and he got a big ol' shit eating grin on his face. But he's my dad and he kinda deserves it all the shit I put him through as a dumb youngster. I kinda guess I want him to feel a little proud of me. But I know what his experience level is. He knows how to take it easy, etc. And he's likely to just go down a straight road and come back all done. Other than that, I don't let nobody even look at my bike wrong.

4:08 one of the first things i learned was, if you have to turn after you needed to stop, put out the leg in whose direction you want to turn. That way you automatically shift the weight and the bike tilts itself. I find this to be an important point you didn't mention. The 2nd on my list whould be... if your bike starts to fall and you try to hold it... keep the steering straight otherwise even a strong person can't hold it.

I did that so many times on my first bike (MT-125) that the sidestand cut-off switch wore out after 7 or 8 months and had to be replaced under warranty. Ever since though, I've always remembered to put the stand up first. Don't think I've done that even once yet since getting my MT07 six weeks ago.

During my bike test, I absolutely HATED the beeping the bike had when I had the indicators on. Then when I passed my test and switched to my bike, which had no beepers, i had the habit of leaving them on. Now I press my indicators every minute to make sure they are off... even If I know I'll be on a long straight for an hour. Riding for 6 years now and I still fear that one day I leave the indicator on and I get hit by a car.

That idea of getting on on the "wrong side" of the bike could definitely be argued. There are a number of advanced motorcycle courses taught in the U.S. by motorcycle cops that require you to mount the bike from the right/high side. The thought process behind this is that, if you are on the side of the road and getting off your bike, if you get off the low side, you are getting off in the travel lane. Cops are constantly having to get off and on their bike on the side of the road, so this is a valid safety measure for them.

People have mentioned this and I completely agree, keep in mind not all countries drive on the same side of the road as you do in the US though... and I don't think there's anything wrong with this i just believe it's a good habit to get into as a beginner.

As a beginner, I had to go through MSF getting on and off the left side. I immediately switched to the right after class. My left leg and hip is just more flexible than the right.

Funny vid. Been riding for 25 yrs & i'm guilty of #2 : getting on the 'wrong side'. For me, it's from being confident to handle the weight of the bike that i feel safe to do it. Noobs should definitely NOT do it though. Let the hate comments begin, lol.

There are times when your bike is parked close to a wall or something on the left side, so is more convenient to get on it from the right, it's not that hard, grab the handlebar and pull the bike towards your side, then get on it. Maybe press the brake lever while you are getting on

Getting on from the left is mostly because it allows you to easily keep a hand on the front brake while steadying yourself with the same hand. But, yeah, this depends on the rider and the specific bike. I ride a Ninja 250r and I can easily step over the whole bike without touching it, so it doesn't much matter which side I mount from. I'm probably going to start alternating sides as my left side is getting a lot stiffer than my right due to the right leg lift.

I'm a relatively new rider and I make the recent mistake of hitting the horn instead of the indicator upon coming to the turn, now while I (most of the time) remember to cancel my indicators while riding, the same can't be said for parking, I commonly shut of the bike with the indicators still going

My safety course bike was a Honda 125. My first bike was a Kawai 250. My mentor was a long time rider with whom I could never keep up. Take the safety course and learn how to ride. Start slow. You have time

I nearly always get on my bike from the right side as I keep my gear in the pannier that faces up and leave my lid hooked on that side. And when step across it I use my left leg against the bike to help get it upright. Dunno why it's just what I do. After 15 years it's probably too late for me to start getting it 'right'. And i wish my blinker would stay on, it automtically cancels when I don't want it to

The blinkers... yeah happens to everyone every once in a while. the other things are taught at the driving school here in germany. our driving teachers are very thorough here and teach you all of that stuff. oh and killing the clutch happens to me when the motor is cold. considering that it's like 4°C here right now that's normal. nice vid mate

@@ChaosCauses Hey mate. I got my new bike a month ago and am happy to check on your video. I do everything as you said, but I don't get the "Killing the Clutch" part. I start my bike and I slowly let go of my clutch until I get into traction zone of first gear and after the bike starts to move slowly, I give some gas. Sometimes I stall my bike for letting go of my clutch more without giving enough gas. I know stalling is bad for the engine. So everytime, I ride my bike from 1st gear, it makes me nervous, that too when am in traffic areas. How should I take off immediately without worrying..?

I *do* forget to cancel my blinkers, but with my current bike the indicator buttons are so garbage that I sometimes have to mash the cancel button several times to get it just right and shut them off. On my older Monster it was all mechanical switches and you could tell for sure when the cancel button clicked... Newer bikes with these stupid electronic buttons have no feel whatsoever, especially with winter gloves.

I don't usually mount on the wrong side, but I have a bad knee and dismounting on the right side is easier and much more graceful than dismounting on the left. Sometimes, my way is just going to be my way.

There’s often a time and a place that it works, and with experience it isn’t even an issue at all. I always just think it’s a good habit to get into as a new rider. But whatever works for you is the best way!

The main problem with getting on the wrong side of the bike is that it's awkward to both have a hand appying the front brake and one steadying you when you climb on. If it's a short light bike, it's probably something you can get away with as you can step completely over the bike without touching it and if it starts to lean, you can recover without damaging it. Unfortunately, the good habit of getting on on the same side of the bike every time leads to bikers having a bit of a cowboy gate if they're riding regularly. I know that I started to walk like John Wayne after a few months of riding due to having more tightness on my left side than my right .

Ive always used the straps to pull my helmet on but sometimes i put my hands on the area the bottom of the visor touches or on the sides of my hemet to wiggle it into a comfortable position.

I HAVE to mount and dismount from the "wrong" side of the bike (more dismount). It's a big cruiser with a wide Mustang seat AND I have bad knees. The way it's angled when on the kickstand causes my feet to catch the high side of the bike. Dismounting from the high side allows my feet to clear more easily while I put side pressure on the tank for balance. Now I wonder what would happen if I put side pressure on the bike from the other side? 🤔 Oh yeah, with no kickstand providing support, it would fall the phuck over!

A friend of mine broke his ankle due to this. He wanted to put his left foot down, had the bike start leaning before taking the foot off the peg (I realize I do it too, it's just a smooth natural gesture) but his lace had got stuck and the bike fell over with his foot between the tarmac and the peg/frame. Ouch. Same tangling happened to me too but I managed to swing my right leg over the saddle and jump off the bike with my left foot still on and tangled. Reflexes, but mostly luck, and being 1.90m tall.

Although some newer bikes like the Ducati xdiavel and some BMW's have them, I believe. Someone has mentioned that the old Yam RD350LC had them, but didn't work well.

Yes, bikes went through a phase where self canceling indicators were used but never caught on. You can also buy aftermarket systems but personally I don’t mind manually canceling them it’s more convenient than a car most of the time lol!

I often keep my Signals on as a New Rider. It's hard to press the indicator and clutch a the same time. I ride a 2018 R1 in the Northeast NYC section of the US. So there are pot hot everywhere

Back in my learner days we had to learn on 250cc bikes.... 2 strokes which are not forgiving!! My first day as a biker (1980) was the bike being delivered on a trailer to my home by the dealer. I was shown how to start it and what control did what and wished, "Good Luck!!", then he left. No compulsory basic training for new riders like today. I started the bike OK and proceeded to attempt to pull away for the very first time on a 250cc 17 HP CZ 2 stroke with 28.5 Pounds/ Foot of torque to feed in with the clutch. Compared to the feebIe 8.2 Pounds / Foot of the Suzuki GSX-125R that's a lot to control!! I also had to deal with the "Slick Shifter" clutch action that operated automatically when the gear lever was moved. The dealer had forgotten to tell me about this feature..... I snicked it into gear, let the clutch lever out gradually until it was all the way out and..... nothing, just engine revs and no movement. I lifted my foot off the gear pedal, releasing the slick shifter and popped a wheelie down the road just managing to stay in control. On the plus side it meant that I didn't have to pull the clutch lever in to change gear on the move. I then proceed to ride around the roads of the housing estate where I lived one gear at a time and learning how to change up and down. Up to 3rd gear and back down again. The next day I ventured out into the countryside and on a long mile straight opened the throttle up until the speedo read 65 MPH. After riding a bicycle 65 MPH was like discovering warp speed!! Two week later I discovered that the bike actually had 4 gears and not 3 and found that it could now show 85 MPH on the clock!! I still have the bike and it now has 79,000 miles on the clock and is now a 30 HP 350cc 2 stroke café racer. It sits in the garage amongst all my other dozen or so bikes.

That's an awesome story to hear! People were tougher back then with 2 strokes. They're no easy bike to learn on but if you can ride that you can ride anything. And awesome to hear that you still have the bike all these years later, thanks for sharing!

Riding the boss' 96 heritage softail this weekend and it automatically cancels the indicator. Indicators on my CBR just don't work so I don't use them after all what's the point of telling the cars behind you what they will see you do long before the catch up to you? Anyone in front is probably not looking out for me and probably wont notice me until I scream past.
