Hey, I'm not Shifty, but I'll thank you for shouting out Qodot! So, a small note about Qodot: it's somewhat recommended to use Qodot-Next, a successor written in Rust. It might be a bit buggy at this time, but it already features a better workflow (Uses godot paths, instead of absolute paths, improved FGD definitions, etc.) Note, for anyone curious like I was: you can set your workflow to be independent of the Godot editor - just trenchbroom, and you load up and build the map at runtime. Also, this is the first time that Dialogic looked good. Every time before I've seen it, it seemed very limited, as if someone just ported Ren'Py into Godot, and not useful aside from that. But someone finally showcased that It CAN be used in tandem with something else. All in all, all of these seem like very useful tools, and thank you for showcasing them ^_^

Miss Lucy I'm a totally beginning at coding and programming alike and after watching the video, imo you know a lot like a lot about programming and especially Godot. I just recently decided that I'll start my programming journey just to make games and learn about them and get better at it. So wanted to know what shall I learn first miss Lucy? I mean just want to know your opinion and want a little just a little bit of help hehe Edit: Also sorry about my english it's not my first language pardon my mistake still learning it.
@LucyLavend3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the world of game development! When you're starting out with game development it's good practice to work on a lot of small games. There are a lot of beginners that immediately want to start with on a big project and then get lost when it's too overwhelming (It happend to me). By making a lot of small game and prototypes you get a good understanding of what the core elements of a game are. I've made a ton of (unfinished) small games/prototypes with Godot which helped me understand the basic structure of certain elements. For example in one project I add a level select screen, and I can reuse that knowledge in the next project I work on. But the next time I implement it I can do it way faster and with more confidence. So yeah, my advise would be to make a ton small projects and not get stuck on big projects when starting out. Don't be afraid to throw away game ideas that are not working. Good luck with your gamedev journey!

How did you setup TrenchBroom for mapping? Did you need Quake?
@LucyLavend3 жыл бұрын
The setup process can be quite confusing, I'm planning to make a tutorial on it. You can check the wiki and ask any questions you have on the Qodot Discord server. You don't need quake to use Trenchbroom/Qodot

@LucyLavend3 жыл бұрын
It's a sprite 3D oriented with the normal received from the raycast hit, so it's not really a decal. I learned this from Miziziziz's "how to make a retro shooter" course. Hopefully Godot 4.0 will make creating actual decals a lot easier
