The side spin push is my favourite. It's really good for setting up 4th/5th ball attacks and it can be quite deceptive too.

My coach used to call "The Hack" as "Slice" because it looks like slicing the top part from a fruit or vegetable. The explanation helped a lot of kids learn this stroke.

Hey Tom. Have you considered the (#1) short, slow "NO-SPIN PUSH" (with no wrist) where you simply LIFT the ball over the net with as little backspin as possible, alternating with the (#2) Long, Slow, "LOTS of WRIST-SPIN PUSH"? I find that lower level opponents often expect MORE backspin on the "NO SPIN PUSH" (#1) than it actually has, prompting them to hit a HIGHER return than they anticipated (that you can easily attack with a FLICK), and that lower level opponents often expect LESS backspin on the "LOTS OF WRIST-SPIN PUSH" (#2) prompting them to hit the ball into the net. What do you think?

Do pushes work on top spin serves/returns?
@DearHRS
@DearHRS 5 жыл бұрын
it will launch the ball up, or it will skid on top of your racket then will go past you, it would heavily depend how hard the ball is spinning.
@lam-angwren2129
@lam-angwren2129 5 жыл бұрын
@@DearHRS So pushes are not ideal against top spin?
@DearHRS
@DearHRS 5 жыл бұрын
@@lam-angwren2129 yup, you should not keep your racket at shallow angles when dealing with top spins, it is possible to push it but racket would need to be more flat, or racket would need alot more speed to cancel out the momentum of ball and send it back. It mostly depends how fast ball would be spinning though.
@DearHRS
@DearHRS 5 жыл бұрын
You would also need a good racket, as mine is bit old and "bald", it doesn't have that much grip on the ball.

Sid Piolo sadas To be honest, if you’re a chopper, top spin serves don’t really matter as how much top spin the ball comes to you, is how much back spin the ball comes back to opponent’s side. If you’re an offensive player without pips, pushing back a serve with top spin is actually possible but not really effective

How can I pick up fast smash..
@johnpaulmananes4003
@johnpaulmananes4003 5 жыл бұрын
Get far from the table and lob, if the smash is weak, you can attack the ball
@Shelter81
@Shelter81 5 жыл бұрын
The key point would be proper weight transfer from the ground. On a side note, if you can accurately predict where the ball will go, your smash/topspin can be even faster if you hit the ball immediately after it bounces on the table. It's a risky shot, but it can sometimes be worth it. Hugo Calderano and Koki Niwa often do this when the opportunity presents itself.

Hi Tom, is it possible to look at the text/graphics of a ball while receiving a serve to read its amount of spin? Maybe it's also a question that would interest Miss Cindy Tiew? :) Oh and THANKS for these videos!

What my coach told me is that if you can see the label, there's not much spin on the ball. So it can be useful for spotting no-spin, but not spin.
