I used to give Judo a hard time because I remember seeing Roger Moore's James Bond execute a couple of Judo throws on random gun-toting bad guys and never get up again, which within the context of government funded special forces/assassins is ridiculous because those guys are trying to murder you, not just fight you... But after reexamining the art and researching it further years later, I can see where Judo is possibly one of the most effective and practical martial arts ever designed for the purposes of defense and diffusion. Unless you're a hardened soldier with intent to kill or a 250 lb meathead on steroids, no one is going to get thrown or body slammed onto pavement/hard floor and want to get back up again to hit you, and in executing that move you've put them on the ground while putting yourself in the most dominant position possible. Very interesting Martial Art with a very interesting history and these videos are clear, concise, to the point, and perfectly explained.

@PhantomSavage you should try it. It is a lot of fun as well. Adding Judo to boxing can make one a pretty well rounded fighter. Adding Wrestling and or Jujisu to that combo is also effective.
@MaxLohMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@planktime Heh, Judo banned leg grabs in 2010 and also prioritizes ground-fighting a lot less now, so anyone who wants to train "Judo" now needs to train in wrestling, BJJ, and Judo -- all 3 of these combined will be what "Judo" used to be :)

I practice Shotokan Karate (currently an orange belt, still a long way till 1st dan black belt). I plan on taking classes in some grappling martial art in order to complement my Karate skills somewhere down the road, and at first I only thought of BJJ. This channel is making me reconsider it! Besides being a badass martial art, Judo is also historically related to the flourishing of Karate (Jigoro Kano and Gichin Gunakoshi were friends), so it makes me all the more interested in it. I can't speak for Shinataro, but I am a very small man, and I am able to perform some of these on much larger partners, even when resisting, if my technique (timing, connection, movement) is as perfect as possible. Some strength is obviously necessary, but not as crucial as you might think.
