Love this! Id ad something to the list: Climbing a ledge or rock. Always a fun little nightmare to test character rigs with ^-^

Thanks Oby 1! Yeah, climbing is always a great way to practice your skills and test out a rig! I always start sweating when a rig needs to be able to handle that smoothly, ha ha! I'll probably do more videos on the different exercises a person can do at each level of skill or experience, and will definitely include that as an exercise. Thanks for the feedback!

"its heavier so it'll fall faster" come on you were going so good with the physics thing! You can't fail me on that!
@RobynO_O3 жыл бұрын
I know, but it wasn't meant to become a physics lesson. I probably should have phrased it differently but I didn't want to get into a whole lesson about the technicalities. For animation purposes, I think it's fine to simplify it to that. What we do in animation doesn't always equate to reality. People or objects in real life don't squash and stretch the way we do it when animating something, and timing in animation doesn't always equate to what the timing would be in reality. When you watch a heavy object fall, you , as a viewer, expect it to fall faster to convey the weight. You're not usually thinking about air resistance and all the other variables, and it could get way too technical to go into all that. I guess I should have put a disclaimer or something in the video for that.

I’m a perfectionist, so animation really scares me. I never finish anything I start.
@RobynO_O3 жыл бұрын
it can be scary, because animation projects are a big undertaking, but if you do it professionally you're part of a team so the whole thing is not on you. And if you do it just as a hobby, you can make sure the things you animate are short and won't take too long to execute. The process gets much quicker the more experienced you are.

As a 14 year old planning to become a 2d animator what software do I use to practice my animation. Also should I buy a drawing tablet to draw?
@istolethispfpsorry4853 жыл бұрын
You don't need a drawing tablet, but it is certainly easier to draw with. Some free animating/drawing software: OpenToonz, Firealpaca, Plastic Animation Paper, Tahoma, and Krita. Alan Becker has a video on 12 principles of animation (not totally necessary, but incredibly helpful) and NobleFrugal has videos on creating your own animated series, plus videos on using OpenToonz and Tahoma. Good luck and if you need help, don't be afraid to ask! I'm also learning how to draw and animate, so I don't know everything, but I want to help others with their dreams!
@RobynO_O3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as Spiders are People Too said, you don't *have* to have a drawing tablet but it certainly will make your life much easier, so I would suggest it if you can get one. And agree with the software. ToonBoom Harmony and Moho Pro are industry standards but not free, so I'd start with one of the free ones suggested above for now

ayo a fellow 14 year old animator. For software I started with krita because it's simple enough to learn and works fairly well, rn I use a (admittedly seven seas acquired) copy of adobe animate. In terms of drawing tablets, you don't need one but if you want to get one I would REALLY recommend getting a huion inspiroy H640P. It's 40$ so it's fairly cheap and it was my first tablet so I can verify it's good! Right now I use a kamvas 13, if you don't like pen tablets and would prefer drawing on a screen the kamvas 13 is a nice affordable option. There might be better out for the price rn but I am not to sure. I hope I helped a bit, but since this was a year ago I am kinda curious if you have progressed in animation at all since then!

it can help to observe timing and movement but be careful not to get dependent on it. Use it as an exercise in observation , not as the only way you will be animating. Unless you want to focus on rotoscoping as a career, then it's all good.
