I was just recently in Northern British Columbia Canada..and met with hundreds of Homeless people (from Vancouver island /Hastings East, Vancouver city main land / to chilliwack to kamloops up to prince george)...I interviewed many of them, from down in their luck, unemployed, living in cars, living in shelters and many hard core living on the streets .... What I discovered, from my own experience living on the streets of Toronto for 15 yrs, back in the day....is that the survival techniques used , are unchanged, but the addictions from using alcohol to cope has shapeshifted into hard chemical drugs to escape ... Money is always an issue, while shelter seeking is not ....there are Homeless shelters, and addiction treatment centers all across Canada set up... I'd say only 3% had bushcraft wilderness survival skills, while the remaining 97% of the homeless/ houseless did not , nor had intention to learning any.

Thanks for sharing your story. I see it all the time. Some people just don't care to do anything to help themselves. It’s wild to think about how much things have changed yet stayed the same, huh? I appreciate you. Thank you!

Some good points, but if you are new to bushcraft don’t use the cutting edge of your knife to light a fire with a ferrel rod

Thank you for pointing that out! It's an important tip for anyone just getting started in bushcraft. The spine is the way to go. I explain that towards the end of the video. Thanks for watching, Be Safe.

Full tang? I know that there are a lot of opinions on knives. I own both full-tang and rattail knives and exclusively use both. I don't know if you've ever done any winter camping. I live in the N. Cascades and 4 season hike and primitive camp near the Canadian boarder all around Mt. Baker National Wilderness area. When it starts getting in the low 30's and below, I have trouble holding a full tang knife as it might as well be red hot rather than blue cold. The hidden tang/rattail of my custom made Pukko is great and the wood warms up after hoding it for just a few moments - I've never had my full-tang warm up comfortabley. Scandanavians have been using rattail type kives for hundreds of years for a reason. I've never seen or heard of one cracking or coming off the handle (which is the primary reason proffered for not using rattail embeded tangs). We can develop biases towards and against gear; I know I have mine. After using something over time and not just relying on lore or anothers "expert" opinion is when I find myself fully informed. Good vid.
