I’m currently investing in VUAA (Ireland-domiciled version of VOO) cuz I’m a non-US resident and I do want to avoid the insane 30% dividend withholding tax of VOO. However, VUAA does come with a higher expense ratio of 0.07% compared to VOO’s 0.03%.
@excitedaboutlearning163911 ай бұрын
I'm investing in the same fund. The difference between 0.03% and 0.07% is so negligible that you shouldn't worry about it. If you're thinking about it from a non-retirement account perspective, then it's even better for many Europeans, because the dividends are reinvested and you don't pay tax on them. (or you may have to depending on the country).

How often do you buy these funds? Say Roth is $6k per year / 12 so $500 per month? $6 / 52 weeks so $115 per week? How do you figure out when to buy? Do you just set a day of the week and stick to it regardless of up or down market day or what? Same day per month? Etc.

Go a little more aggressive in your roth. If you already have international exposure in your 401k I would consider maybe going all VTI in your Roth. Possibly adding in like 10-15% in VXUS. You will draw from your Roth after your 401k (due to tax benefits) so you have more time to recover from volatility which is why I say you can be slightly more aggressive. Putting any bonds in a Roth is a waste

I’ve had a mutual fund in my ROTH IRA SINCE 2007. I’m interested in switching to an ETF such as VOO, but how do I max out my contribution limit with an ETF? At $7,000 that works out to roughly $583 per month of dollar cost averaging. I can adjust the difference in one of the months to smoothly land on exactly $7,000 by the end of the year. But with ETF’s you can’t buy fractions of shares like mutual funds. So how do people make sure they are maxing out their contribution limit when investing in an ETF within their IRA’s?

I’ve just run in to what Jarred mentioned in my brokerage acct. I only held 9 different funds in my account and I’m trying to simplify plus transition to lower fee and tax efficient options. The market being down is helping me a bit because I can sell at a small loss and reinvest, so it’s advantageous for my taxes. I have some where the dividends were automatically reinvested, so I have some shares that are short term, and I will need to wait on transitioning those. All that to say is it’s a lot to juggle and I’d consider simplifying sooner than later before the market turns and you have a lot of gains and feel stuck with those funds.

HELLO JARRAD! I am 27 and never fully understood investing but KNEW I had to start early. In my limited knowledge I invested in VTSAX and VTTSX in my taxable ($80k) and VTSAX again 😑 in my Roth IRA ($16K). I don’t know if I should keep doing this. I’m in this for the long haul.

I am having trouble understanding what you said "invest in an ETF even if it is going down" and hang in there for the long run. Wouldn't it be better to at least set an alert to when it starts to show signs of going up? Otherwise it's like the saying I've heard before that says "you don't want to catch a falling knife". Just trying to understand the logic to what I might not be understanding. Thanks for all your great videos and hard work! :)

Go to Google, type in “what is 1000 * .03%?” then tell me what it says. If you were multiplying it by .03 then you’d be correct by saying $30, but it’s .03%

@@JarradMorrow not exactly! Just trying to focus on growing dividends for the next 27 years until I can start collecting on the ROTH! My roth 401K however is the mutual fund equivalent of 70% VOO and 30% VO so I have some pretty steady growth on that side!
@JarradMorrow Жыл бұрын
Oh. Why not try to focus more on growth through funds that aren't so focused on dividends (VTI, VOO, etc) to get the account as large as possible, then switch to dividend heavier funds when you start withdrawing from your Roth? Not saying you're right or wrong for doing what you're doing. I'm more curious about your thought process because 90% allocated to anything is a lot in general.
@ericjones2404 Жыл бұрын
@@JarradMorrow So I figured I might be able to have the best of both worlds in my ROTH IRA. The downturn for dividend appreciation ETFs doesn't seem to be as severe as the market as a whole which is a huge plus. Couple that with the fact that their annual raise to their dividends tend to outpace VOO or VTI, and their price appreciation is still pretty high and not far off either and you have a pretty good strategy. But the cherry on top for me is that the greater dividends paid means that my DRIP will net me a higher number of shares. That greater income in retirement and pretty comparable price appreciation makes it worth it in my opinion!
