Holy hell, it's changed so much throughout the years. It was never paved, or rocked-over; there were no tourists and it was pretty quiet. We used to swim at the base of the falls, which was pretty deep. We also used to climb up the falls on the mountain-side and made it up to 7 falls above the main falls but it was getting dark so we never made it all the way to the source - not sure we would have, anyway. This was back in the late 80's early 90's.

Aloha Marimo! Yes, a lot has changed within only 10 years and I love hearing stories about the hikes in the 80s and 90s!:) I have Mt done 7 Falls but I bet it was a journey and yeah, no tourist and pretty quiet:) at least now we have the cellphone and hiking apps that direct us to and from the hikes. So that's cool. Have a great week!:)🤙👍

We just got back from Ohau a few days ago & we hiked Diamond Head. Let me tell you, it’s not easy for out of shape people but doable. If you have knee issues, be careful. Just take your time, take your breaks, don’t forget your water, sunscreen & maybe a cooling towel. There’s also a tunnel you have to walk through during the hike so if you are claustrophobic, be warned. Overall, it was worth the view & experience.

Thanks for this video! I’ve been on the Diamond Head Lighthouse trail once - and saw whales! I was expecting to see them breech out of the water but no - I only started seeing them when my friend told me to look for the water puff from their blowhole. And they were way out in the distance! And the Diamond Head trail can get crowded! We barely made it there early enough to get a parking lot spot. Going down the trail it was super crowded, jam packed. (This was 3 years ago, pre-Covid)

Aloha e Sean! You've got some pretty cool videos. A suggestion: Please pronounce the inoa Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian names) correctly. Many locals have a pidgin way of pronouncing Hawaiian names. You tend to pronounce the 'e' as 'ee' when it should be pronounced broadly like 'eh'. Diacritical marks such as the 'okina and kahakō should also be pronounced because the meaning of the word can drastically change if not pronounced correctly. (Itʻs not as difficult as tonal languages, such as Mandarin, so no worries!) The thing is, is that in order to respect and perpetuate our native Hawaiian culture - and ask visitors to do the same - we need to at least pronounce our toponyms correctly. Also, please donʻt expose the few remaining secrets spots us true kamaʻāina have. Itʻs frustrating and damaging that exposure on the internet has led to a lot of overtourism, especially in residential areas. Locals struggle to buy homes here and when they do, they donʻt want to end up on KZbin so that a bunch of hikers can traipse through their backyards. Itʻs all about respect. Mahalo piha me ka haʻahaʻa.
@SeanKaleponi2 жыл бұрын
Mahalo Opal for your suggestions. I really want more Hawaiians to come out with YT videos on how to say proper Hawaiian words. I look for those videos too and... I honestly didn't think any of these videos ppl would watch so I was surprised when ppl did watch them. I thought I would just try to make videos and hope it gets a couple hundred views. Also, did you watch my "5 Things Not To Do In Hawaii" video? I was kind of suprised that more locals didn't share it. It's my most meaningful video without hardly any views. I really thought more locals would share it and appreciated it but was told it wasn't meaningful. So yes, I appreciate your suggestions!🤙

Honestly I think it’s a disservice to the local people and the local hiking spots to expose them to tourists who will just destroy the beauty of it all. I used to hike diamond head all by myself and there was no one up there but me and a few locals. There wasn’t a stair in site to make it easier for morons to make it easier to ascend the crater. The stairwell on the windward side is illegal to hike and the sooner they remove them the better. I used to live in Maunawili and took the trails up to the waterfall and hiked the underbrush for years. Now the tourists have ruined the trails and trespassed on private property and trashed everything. Sad
@SeanKaleponi Жыл бұрын
Aloha J Hash, I get what you're saying. But at the same time, a lot of natives marry people who aren't originally from Hawaii, which is why it's impossible to find full Hawaiians now. And that makes sense, I mean.. I had a Hawaiian guy telling me he rather marry someone that doesn't look like his sister and I noticed a lot of the beautiful Hawaiian woman, don't marry Hawaiian men. Which is fine, but we prefer to see people outside of our native culture too so overall, we welcome foreigners but to a certain extent. Heck, even my 5 Things Not To Do In Hawaii was not well received by many locals which I found shocking.
