Keeping yourself alive is a critical factor in successful matches, great advice here. Also would like to add that popping a roaming super even if you get zero kills is effective in helping you get map control. Most people's (myself included) first reaction to hearing a Behemoth or Dawnblade proc is to just RUN. So even if you don't get a kill, you can scare the enemy out of position. I also like to follow a teammate who's popped their super to try to support with gunfire or abilities, just keep the pressure on.

There is some contention, but the most widespread origin is considered to come from the Battlefield series as non squad members showed as blue on the radar rather than the green of those in your squad. I had previously heard the term used interchangeably with “smurf” in vanilla WoW around 2005 to describe someone still wearing blue gear despite being at the level that they should be in purple gear. Destiny, of course, has its own evolutions and usage. In all of Destiny 1 and until post Forsaken D2, I had only ever heard the word used in a manner to describe someone as bad or a “newb/n00b”. It evolved over time to where I know hear it about 50/50 as derogatory or just random players/teammates.

These are all great tips, I'm still pretty trash at pvp, so I'll definitely try to make the most of these! One story of adapting that I have from a few months ago. Me and a friend were playing survival on that Titan map, I think the Rig, and in the first few rounds we kept rushing B and getting slaughtered. So in like round 3 or 4, I brought up that we kept losing when going inside and that we should try staying outside. And that helped us win the next few rounds. We still lost in the end, but realizing that issue and adapting helped give us a boost. Being able to recognize what you're doing wrong, and how you can fix it is very important.

One I would like to add is that you should stay calm and not rage. Rage blinds you and causes you to get more aggressive. That will hurt your K/D too. But I will say, this was such a big help. I played three matches today in control and got one of my first ever Ghost in the Shadow. It really wasn't hard to pick my battles while using corners on a typically ranged map (Rusted Land). I also found two guns that really got me working as best I can. The two being Waking Vigil and Fractethyst. I didn't think it was going to help when I first listened, but being in control of an engagement is amazing.

An all-encompassing suggestion: PAY ATTENTION. To everything. Pay attention to the opponent loadout. If you know they're using top tree dawn you can expect them to float in the air. If they're using a shotgun and handcannon you can expect mostly close and mid range engagements. If you notice a certain exotic you can expect them to be using that exotic how it was intended. Look at their subclass, exotic choice, weapons. If they use bubble titan you know they intend to lock down a specific area and they will have damage bonuses and super regen for their team. If they have tether hunter you can expect them to use it primarily as a shutdown. Keep an eye on the super meter so you can be aware that someone you are pursuing may be able to insta-kill you with a shutdown.

I've been having a bad streak with my k/d recently because I am just now returning after last playing during forsaken, I found that the brute force strategies I was used to gets me killed a lot more often than I used to. Being a titan with bad burst mobility options for mid engagement (Like hunter dodge, dawnblade dash, void blink, etc.) forced me to look back at my kit to see what I COULD use. I now make sure to position myself in tight corridors and block them off with barricades preemptively. If I can tunnel them into a more fair fighting space, it makes my positioning all the better. I looked over my kit, and took time with my positioning and instead of pushing new zones, I kept lock on zones where I could lock them down. I saw instant improvement in my k/d and matches won. Its hard going from decent in PvP to bottom feeder, but I'll get back up there one day!

Excellent video. Very valid points and amazing explaining. Good job! My one complaint. Regarding your last point with adaptation. The scenario you mentioned, the aping team and distance, that is absolutely true, but in a 6v6 scenario when your mates will not adapt to it, you adapting will def help you live longer, but you will still succumb as your mates are running in like its a black hole in the middle of the map. As if they go in and die and leave you keeping your distance (though aggresively) it will still tank your KD. So some fights are really lost from the get go, but at least yoylu can train your positioning. Its hard not to get angry at situations like this but I guess you take them to learn something new (. 10 times in a row :( ).

I gotta say, all your tips are ABSOLUTELY great and very informative. Unfortunately it's easier to disengage as a hunter more than any other class. I'm a Titan main and I get that you can disengage with the barrier but the animation isn't as fast as the hunter dodge so all that we basically have is the shiver strike, which has a long cooldown depending on your strength level. I've learned to adapt my gameplay more by bring my opponents to me rather than being a foolish Titan that runs in straight lines lmao. I actually make due running 100 mobil, 100 resil, 60 recov and 70 str. Sometimes I might run 90 mobil, 100 str and 70 to 80 recovery to get back into fights faster. All depends on my mood honestly

1:05 For me I find it a lot easier to get kills than to stay alive,. I can consistently get 30 kills a game, however I really struggle to keep myself alive, so the tips you had for decreasing deaths really helped me.

You know I used to hate comp. It took everything I had to get Luna's howl. Then I took everything I had to get Not Forgotten even tho the mode had been made easier. I can honestly say it's 1 of my favorite modes now. It made me a better player by forcing me to learn alot of these tips on my own. The instincts that cannot be learned in a video like this even tho Shadow is a fckn beast and an excellent teacher. I think you should nudge your veiwers into playing more comp if they are serious about improvement. My aim still shakes like an old man trying to take a piss but my overall skill is drastically better. Great video bro!

I personally believe that in any game, adaptability is ur strongest power. Adapting against ur opponents is such a huge advantage to u and ur team.

With the super against a group of camping players, there are some combos like sentinel: bash in, throw, bash away, which can deal with these scenarios well. You need to know who you're playing against as against some groups you will get team shot to death, but there are multiple ways to deal with them with a super. These are really good tips and advice though.

This is awesome stuff! Please do more. I am terrible at PvP but still like to play it and wanna be better at it. I am definitely bookmarking your video and try to follow what you told me. As a blueberry, I am definitely over aggressive, charge without thinking, and almost never use the radar. I think the radar flaw is something that PvE encourages because you almost never have to use it there. So when noobs like me come over to PvP, it's not in our toolbox. Great content!

@@ShadowDestiny That'd be awesome! I have started going down your video Playlist and I can't believe you don't have a bigger following! Rest assured I am gonna be recommending you to anyone who'd listen lol. You're very talented and I love how organized your videos are. And how you break down stuff into its barest components. There are a lot of "big" content creators out there who only make stuff for the pros and the seasoned. And their videos always leaves me with questions like, "okay, but how do you do that exactly?" I never have to do that with your videos! You've definitely earned a follower and a subscriber in me. I'll drop in to say hi on Twitch sometime soon.

Another tip: Avoid ADS for too long in one direction. You’re liable to get snuck up on and killed by a sliding shotty user. Or simply by someone who flanked and you were ADS so you didn’t see the radar. Another tip: always always always check the radar. It gives you the general direction of where the enemy is and if he’s above or below you based on the opacity of the color. As well as the number of enemies that are nearby. Keep your engagements only with 1 enemy and the moment you see another guy just high tail it outta there cuz you’re gonna die. But the main tip is just don’t ADS too long. It should be in and out. You always want eyes on that radar. I improved from a 1.2 to a 1.46 following these rules. Now that I’ve seen this video I’ll start using cover more because I don’t that often and it’s why destiny is frustrating. I’m literally exposing myself to all the bullshit. Don’t do that. Just play slow and smart.

One that really hit me is the Super one... I used to feel allmighty when my super was active and ended falling miserably with 0 kills and probably a 10-12 year old with some LOL emote right after it... Thanks for the advice!!

Great vid, nice to see a PvP controller player showing controllers can be good. Its also really good to find a PvP guide vid that is short, if I had the time to watch an hour guide on PVP, I'd probably spend that time doing something else! lots of vids out there 40min + and they don't even give you points to follow. I like that this is broken down into smaller chunks which are easy to digest, especially for a PvP player like me who totally sucks at PVP😄, I will definitely try spending 3 or more games honing each skill, before trying to put them together. Got me slamming the like and subscribe button, Would love to see more of these. Keep up the good work man.

One mistake I see people make is when they flee to an open area. That just allows the pursuer to fly above you for a clean up kill. Instead go to an area that forces everyone to be on the ground.

I remember a few days ago I was cluelessly running from spawn In the general direction of my teammates. Looking at my radar, taking cover. But then, this one open circular area my radar just instantly lights up from all directions at once. I barely had time to think how screwed I am before their entire fireteam riddled me with led

My biggest mistake in pvp tends to be using a roaming super on an enemy team grouped around the corner. I've come to realize I should only do this if my teammates are already there to distract them.

I like your tips but my tip is when a super is cast or final round split up and flank around them so their super is not fully optimized

The biggest problem I have is the matchmaking putting me against full 6 player professional esports teams. I experience one of these problems on average per game, but against players who are just better than me in every way, getting better just feels like seeing how many ways I can die.

This video reminds of an old saying.... "Wise is the one who learns from another´s mistakes, Less wise is the one who learns only from his own mistakes. The fool keeps making the same mistakes again and again and never learns from them." Basically don't keep making the same mistakes over and over again and expect different results, you won't get the results you were hopping for.

If you have a clan or a group of friends you can always invite them to play a couple of private matches in Momentum Control. Since the weapons cause way more damage and your skills don't regenerate unless you get kills, you can adapt into sticking to cover and choosing your engagements carefully because if you don't adapt, you'll die a lot.

You know i keep listening to videos like this in hope that itll keep me motivated to improve but honestly its draining with how inconsistent pvp feels. This season especially has felt super laggy to the point im not enjoying pvp and only going into it for bounties. Not going to lie the moment BF6 drops im probably not going to touch d2 pvp for many seasons
