Just bought a Hyundai Palisade (Calligraphy) for the wife. Local dealership didn't have and couldn't get the color we wanted. It seems that dealers don't like to order anything other than Black, White, Silver and Graphite. After an exhaustive search, we found one in the color we wanted (Dark Blue exterior with white leather interior). It was $1200 less than our local dealer was selling them for, AND they gave us $1000 more for our trade than our local dealer offered. The dealership knew they had a good price on it and wouldn't negotiate. Regardless, even without negotiating, the $2200 swing was well worth the 3 hour drive to buy and take delivery of it.

I loved the surprise at the end with Kia. Walked into a Kia dealership last week and the "scam sicker" already had an $1,800 increase above MSRP. I was still interested in the Seltos but when we got to the table they had non-negotiable extended warranties and fees totaling over $5k. When we pushed back it turned from driving the car and looking at the numbers to "what can we do to have you take the care home today". Even after that they didn't lower the price at all because people will pay that much above sticker.

The biggest issue I had with my local Chevy dealership was the bait and switch. In 2013 I was in the market for a new car and wanted a Cruze. I found one advertised on the dealer’s website at $22,000, and went in for a test drive. This car was a 2LT model with the two tone seats, pioneer stereo system, and a sunroof. They sent me on an overnight test drive, so when I came back in the morning I was sold and told them I’d take it. It was at this point that they pulled their bologna of telling me that they had accidentally advertised the wrong stock number for the price, and told me that I would have to take a 1LT model with the regular touchscreen stereo, the simple black seats, and no sunroof. In the end they got the raw end of the deal because I made them throw in virtually everything I could for the price they had already advertised for. I got the gap insurance($500), I got the extended warranty ($1500), I got all of the BS paint and interior protection mumbo-jumbo($500), I got remote start installed($400), window tint($150), and factory floor mats($200) and other things I don’t remember included in their original price. I made them give me free oil changes and tire rotations for the life of the warranty also. Told them I’d walk and blast their Yelp and Facebook pages with bad reviews if they didn’t play ball. They would have done better to give me the original car they’d sent me home with. Dickheads. Maxie Price Chevrolet in Stone Mountain Georgia, Corvette superstore.

100% right on Kia... at least from the dealership I dealt with last week. Was trying to get a decent deal on a K5 GT Line. They had tacked on $3,000 dealer profit to the price. Couldn't even get them to go down to MSRP. The more I sat there listening to them go on and on about the chip shortage and car shortage I thought there was no way I was going to even pay MSRP on a Kia (of all makes). Plus they contradicted themselves about four times in the 30 minutes I sat there with the sales manager. Frustrated I stopped at the Subaru dealer on the way home. Test drove a Legacy and ended up buying it. No games, treated me like a human being and I got it for 5% below MSRP. It was actually a pleasant experience and I know I got the better vehicle.

Oh one I had issues with last year is my local toyota dealership here in Pennsylvania. I wanted a Tacoma. They had 2019 models on the lot with 2020 models starting to come in too. They expected full msrp on the 19. They wanted 799 doc fee. They were trying to get me to accept a higher interest rate than I thought I should get with 800 credit score. Low balled my trade and made up a story about the automatic transmission grinding. Said they couldn't find me keys when I said I was done not buying today and it time to leave. I had to talk to the sales manager before the keys were magically found. I stalled out on buying for a while and did eventually buy a Tacoma 8 month later at Bill Kidd's Toyota in Timonium MD. The deal was fair, no monkey business and I was very pleased with how professional they were. The difference in dealerships was night and day.

I almost bought a Equinox last month. It was a nice red, equipped like I wanted, and was at a good price. The salesman walked inside while I was getting my check book for the deposit. Going back by, I put a small "moon eyes" sticker on it. I always do that after I almost got in the wrong car once. Went inside and wrote a check for the deposit and filled out the finance papers. I went back to work and later they said my loan was approved and I could pick the car up the next morning. (Saturday, it was getting late on Friday). Signing the final papers, I noticed it said it was black. When I asked about the color, the salesman told me I had looked at a black car. I asked to look at the car. No moon eyes sticker. THAT car, with my sticker, was out by the street to draw traffic. The manager got rather stuffy with me insisting I had bought a black one. I showed a picture on my phone of the car I wanted to buy. I walked out. They didn't want to return my deposit. I put a "refer to originator" order on it. I now have a very nice little CX-5 and couldn't be happier.

Telluride over msrp 4 months when this came out ?please try and buy one at sticker now .why would they do that when people are fighting over them ?it's supply and demand and it applies to every product you buy big and small .get mad at market adjustments on gas or milk ...it doesn't change anything. We sold a used bronco today for $25,000 over msrp ....and it was under market value and the customer couldn't believe they got it at a good price and didn't have to fly for it .and tbh, the front was $1100 on it showing how much we had to spend just to be able to sell it . I get excited..like very excited when I sell a car and see the front end profit at $3000 and I get a quarter of it . I also feel people think we make $5k+ on the front end of cars .maybe some folks do but every used car we have on the lot (over 500 of them ) have been losers for the past 2 months .we make it up by securing finance and getting the bonus from big toyota. It's tough out there right now .I spent two months searching for my wife and mines vehicles and jumped on them when we found them .theres not even employee discounts right now

Truly, you lost me at the mention of a 'documentation fee' of hundreds of dollars! You can't sell a vehicle without documenting it! If you're at a dealer who charges more than $75 for document processing, then move on! Yes, there will be fees required by your state, such as tax, state Inspection, title fees, etc., but nothing more.

Honda dealers do it with the Civic Type R as well. MSRP starts at $38-44k, but the dealer markup will send the sticker price into Corvette or even non-911 Porsche territory.

@kevinstorm60093 жыл бұрын
No. As he clearly pointed out in the Tesla example, the 'transportation charge' is the cost charged by Tesla when they bring a car from one of their shops in another city to s location near the purchaser's home. The 'destination fee' is the typical cost of transporting a vehicle from the new vehicle factory to a dealership. In most cases, you can buy a vehicle that's built in Detroit from a dealer right down the street from the factory OR from a dealership as far away as San Diego or Miami Beach and you'll all pay the same destination fee.

This can be common on the west coast. I worked for a Chevrolet dealer in Iowa and our finance manager used to complete deals in California. Their manager purposefully made the finance department sit on the completed paperwork for almost an hour before bringing the customer in. By that point, the customer would be so sick of being in the dealership they would answer yes to everything just to leave with their car, adding several dealer fees in the process. It pays to keep your patience, ask questions and read through the details before agreeing to ANYTHING.

I always hear, "I signed it without reading it". If you read it, would you understand it? It is deliberately written to confuse. Establish the rules of engagement when you first go in. Exam[le #1, I will be here 90 minutes I will be leaving with or without a new car. My sister in law and her daughter spent 4 hours on a Saturday at a Honda Dealership. At least they each leased a car. The daughter's son leased a new Nissan. They called him 5 days later and said the lease wasn't approved. He went back and signed a new lease at $65 more a month. He called and asked my wife if this was legal. He didn't want to talk to me. The spot delivery is alive and well. 2 years ago he tried to buy a used KIA. 5 days later they called and said financing wouldn't go through without $3000 more. He didn't have it or the $1 a mile they wanted for his use of the car. He saw it, he signed it, but he didn't read it or understand it. 300 plus comments illustrate my points. That mountain of paperwork has been developed over decades to befuddle and confuse.
