As a kid my dad's 2005 manual V70R was amazing. So satisfying when he'd race someone then they see my brother & I waving at them from the seats in the boot as we fly past they're giving the finger for getting beat by a Volvo 😂 To this day it still puts a smile on my face even though it's cost a small fortune to maintain.

When you do your sub £5k or £2.5k, don’t forget the saab aero- either (or both) the old 9000 or 9-5 were around the 250bhp stock, but like the supra had massive tuning potential. Their mid range acceleration is insane when tuned and there are 500+bhp ones with around 700nm here in the uk, or 700+ from Nordic or Maptun in Sweden. Fun. I had a gs450h for nearly 2 years and absolutely loved it the amount off cars I used to play about with and leave them behind was fun. And there still good on fuel. Done 20000 miles when I had mine and all I did was put 2 new rear tyres on and service it. 100% recommend one👍

@@m.48 yeah there not that popular here in the UK the most popular models are ct and nx. I miss the gs450h my favourite car I have owned now have a rx450h makes a great family car.

In the UK they are not very popular because the cars were really created for the American market. The philosophy being big and comfortable like the Cadillacs. Part of the reason Lexus vehicles are also not very popular here in the UK is and they are not used by rental companies Therefore totally eliminating the Lexus brand from X-rental vehicle market. Walk to a Lexus dealership showroom and by the way you will get treated I don’t think you would go anywhere else.

Nope.. The BTCC was a 850 R Saloon and Estate. Which BMW had banned from racing in Touring Car's.The statement was they weren't a touring car but a family Saloon and Estate.. Basically BMW were pissed off cos the 5 series couldn't touch the 175mph they were hitting or get them on the corners because of the Haldex 4wheel drive system. You would think I had one wouldn't you.. I haven't.... I have 2 of them.. R reg and a W reg V70R phase 1.. The first gen Engine is the King to Own. That tin pot Ford pile of shite 2.4 thing ain't worth the weight in scrap..They rubbish...

The 9-5 is new and I didn't think they were this quick, realised when I kept up with a 911 in the rain one morning going to work. Out of these 5, I'd go for the Lexus every time. This is based on a number of things; comfort is superb, reliability second to none, performance is excellent, economy surprisingly good, and it's whisper quiet, which of course means that you blow the opposition away so quietly that they don't know you're there until you're already long gone! I own a 2006 Lexus GS300 SE-L, which has been "breathed on" by my local Lexus dealership; and it has to be said that the results are simply staggering! I paid just £2,400 for the car and spent a further £550 with Lexus - best thing I ever did.

@R A funny because it was more powerful than the saab and its turbo was more responsive. In addition, its more special due to its Btcc racing pedigree and the F40 6 speed gearbox that can exceed 180 mph. Do your research before chatting bs

Now I'm starting to think I banged on about the GS too much, everyone is going to want one ☺ I love all the cars on this list, but I'm not sure I'd actually want to own any of the others. All the others are probably going to start appreciating soon though, GS might need another 10 years and new battery tech since people are scared of old batteries, not entirely unreasonably in general.

As the resident GS450h fanboy on the channel, do it! The Mk4 (2012 onwards) is a huge step up in luxury (moisturing aircon...) and tech so well worth it if you can afford it, but the performance is identical- some suggest the older ones are actually faster but that doesn't really seem to be the case. Also it's a little quicker than 5.7 to 60 unless you're towing a bus! Notes- no folding seats, needs full dealer servicing to keep the battery warranty (10 years, not that it'll ever break anyway) and please don't race my Porsche since I know which car wins ☺

@@ApothecaryTerry I have had a 2007 GS450h and now I own a 2014 GS450h. My 2007 car covered 229,000 miles before I PX’d for the current car. The reason the older car feels a little faster is because the newer car has such a great level of comfort that it hides how fast it really is. 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. 38 MPG (city) 42+ MPG motorway. Not bad for a car with a 3.5 Litre engine

​@@filmfreek35 The Mk4 definitely hides its speed well! It's also a very easy car to burn fuel in if you floor it, but I also managed 50mpg on a few runs. Even did 47.5 on a 4 hour run from Bristol to east London including 90 mins of London rush hour. Once I get bored of having a sports car in a couple more years, a Mk4 is on my shortlist again. Never considered owning the same car twice before but it's so good...although I want a facelift in premier spec and no black leather if I get one, so I might have to check my local unicorn dealer for that.

@@ApothecaryTerry it nice to come across someone who knows about these Lexus GS vehicles. Unfortunately the last Generation GS is mainly an exterior styling upgrade. It has the same cabin as the 2012 & on models but with better gauge cluster, a new steering wheel, Adaptive radar cruise control a standard, and a physical back button for the infotainment system. The engine is the same, The seats are the same. Since the GS was discontinued I keep wondering what my next Lexus would be. The ES does not really appeal to me being a front wheel drive and underpowered. I hope I can afford and LS 500h F sport (0-60 in 4.6 seconds).

You should have lumped the GS460 in with the GS450h. Around the same price and performance. (and rarity, I think) You could have added the LS460. Even more of a sleeper, in looks, but heavier than the GS.

Anyone looking at the v70r but can't afford one, bear in mind the 2.0T (also 5cyl turbo) produces 180bhp and costs the same as a 1.2 VW Polo to insure, oh and I picked up my S60 version for £800. So yeah, this or a polo. I think I made the right choice.

For 15 years from 2000, I had a Mercedes W124 estate...I know boring right? And not a sleeper? Ah, but this was one of 200ish built. A 300TE-24v sportline from 1991. With no catalyst and running on 98 octaine full lead, it put out 240bhp and weighed 1450kg. With the estate car self leveling rear suspension as per the 190 Cosworth and a 3 litre straight six twin cam with a red line of 7250rpm it was a total sleeper. Damn I had fun with that car.

I had the gs450h is a beast the only down side is that is CVT in 2 years that I own I put 71k miles on it just to bear in mind when I purchased it had 99k on the clock no issues part from tpms sensors age related and holes on the exhaust, probably like all the other cars on your list insurance tax and maintenance is very expensive as they are premium cars

It’s ridiculously torque-y, and I only got it for 2 grand and it’s in pristine condition, bare in mind it’s my second car and I’ve only been driving a year and a half, possibly the best deal I’d get for such great performance for a second car. Definitely an underrated car, and an absolute sleeper, I’ve had several people shocked at the performance of it

Hi, lived through the Audi V8 evolution. The story goes……. Audi V8 4.2 40v come out then VW bought Lambo. The Lambo V10 5.0 IS based on the V8 though they decided on 5.0 capacity so reduced the bore spacing by 2mm to make the block as light as possible. They developed the V10 5.0 with 4 valves per cylinder instead of 5 utilising the left over hole in the head for direct fuel injector along with many performance mods. All of this was then applied to the 40v V8 engine bar the bore spacing which created the B7/8 RS4 engine, R8 V8 and one of the Q7’s. Then they took that engine, added 2 more cylinders to create the 5.2 V10. My point being you and others say the 5.0 V10 isn’t related to the other engines, apart from the bore spacing they are 😊

Legacy 3.0R Spec B, a sleeper and reliable and on B roads and in the wet or snow its in a league of its own. I drove from Bristol to Southampton (and back) over the last weekend and with spirited driving I pretty much had the outside lane to myself, and when the weather was crap on the 3rd of May it was basically a free lane, I only recall a Golf R over taking me and that certainly costs more than 5 or 10k.

@@CarsWithJB haha, it really is a beast of a thing...the best bit is no one has any idea what it is - only 18 face lift saloons were sold in the UK and around the world they are quite hard to get, especially the 6 speed manuals - but you wont get mine for £5k....I wont be able to get a car as good as it for that money

W169 A200 Turbo by far my favourite sleeper. It can smoke people off in daily taffic for a fraction of those 10k (where i live they are 1000EUR due to high engine tax since its over 2L). People will think you are driving just a normal a class

The bmw m135i should be a contender for this. I got mine for under 10 and its a great example. It made 380bhp with a stage 1 map and it's a eight speed auto. Take my word for it....... It goes well.

Lookin for a cheap sleeper? Lincoln MKS Ecoboost from 2010 to 2018. Can be had for under 10 grand US. With a $600.00 tune the car goes 0-60 in 3.9. Its all wheel drive. The parts are cheap and as long as you change the oil in the PTU your golden. Many have fallen prey to this beast. This is the same as the Ford Tauraus SHO.

No worries! I enjoy the challenge/enjoy the difference of opinions. Tomorrow will be my final (probably) in the series of cheap sleeper cars vids, as a forewarning, but what I’ll do is start researching over the weekend exactly how sleepers started/where they came from/the history of, and prepare a ‘history of sleeper cars’ style video once I’ve done the research (just with a more interesting title)

Literally ANY car is more exciting than a 116d. The rwd is the only thing going for it but doesn't have the power to make use of it. If I was 20y old again I'd get a fiesta 1.0 ecoboost with 99bhp. Stage 1 takes it to around 145bhp, handles brilliant cheap to run and quick enough

Rover 75 V8: 260hp, 150mph, 0-60 7.2. Being only available in 2005, is rarer than the Saab! V8 Jags: S Type 400hp, 155mph, 0-60 5.3; XJR X308 370hp, 155mph (limited), 0-60 5.6 5.0 supercharged isn't yet in the £10k bracket but shouldn't be long! (510hp, 155mph limited, 0-60 4.7)
