We don't need film stocks back at this moment, what we need is for film prices to come down else film photography or at least colour film photography will come tumbling back down like it did in the early 2000's. We have rebuilt this industry but with the current prices and also the rise of "digicams" amongst young shooters I doubt there will be further growth if the prices keep going upwards.

Agreed. A 5 pack of Portra 400 is nearly 100 dollars. Gold 200 prices have got out of hand. Fuji is basically gone and Kodak has decided to fuck up the market AGAIN which will inevitably lead to the death of film once again. Thankfully companies like Silbersalz have come in to provide an economic way of shooting cinefilm with good results.

Thank goodness Ilford is still standing and doing a brilliant job. My love for them grows the more I use their film stocks

I think we need two film stocks to come back. First-Ektachrome 400. Second- professional grade color negative, but more saturated than Portra to replace pro 400h. Something like Ektapress or Ektar/ Ektacolor but with speeds from 400-1600.

Kodak discontinued their Tungsten-balanced films largely due to the shift in artificial lighting, from incandescent to LED. The former had a color temp of ca. 3200-3400 degrees K, while natural daylight is more ca. 5600 degrees K. The popularity of LED monolights began in the mid-2000s, with portrait shooters moving away from Speedotron and other halogen-based systems.

Def agree that an Ektar 25 would be amazing, and would get me out in nature a whole lot more shooting landscapes!

Astia needs to come back. Was a portrait film, but for something like a moss garden, with lots of different greens, it was amazing.

Ektar 100 is your Kodachrome 64. That is as good as your going to get. That said it’s awesome.

The photos look great, but the one at 1:34 is insane! You should definitely offer it as a print! I honestly didn't know they made Portra 100T. I do agree though, the uses are kind of limited. I will say, I'm pretty sad about 400H. I'm down to my last two rolls, one on 35mm and one 120 roll in the fridge. I noticed Adorama still has pro packs of 400H in 120, I'll take this as my reminder to buy at least a couple to put in the freezer! As usual, thank you for the entertaining and informative video! Also, congrats on 3k subscribers! Your growth is much deserved, keep up the good work man!

My own dream is Fomachrom coming back, it was a warmer, desaturated color film. But like Kodachrome, it's also very unlikely to come back, because development was also done in-house by Foma (then Fotochema), and because Fomachrom was a Czechoslovak copy of Agfachrome and its development process. Also, I don't think Foma is interested in developing color film, let alone color slide film. The second on my list are Agfa color films. I can only hope the new Orwo color film will hit the "vibe" I'm looking for.

I've talked to people who've shot and developing Kodachrome and they've said that it's best that it stays dead. As morbid as that sounds, it was a bitch to develop and doesn't really compare to what we have today

Kind of interesting point-and-shoot cameras lost the ability early on to shoot at low speed like 25 iso. The early eighties point-and-shoots with out dx code readers can shoot down to 25 iso. I have Ricoh AF-5 with this capability.

I wonder why nobody has done a video comparing the histories of Kodachrome for color slide photography and Technicolor for color motion pictures. Some of the similarities are striking, like the fact that early research for each began in the mid 1910s. Both Kodachrome and Technicolor began life as two-color products, which in both cases captured skin tones accurately but could not faithfully reproduce anything containing any amount of blue. Both companies perfected blue, and thus full-spectrum color, in the mid 1930s. Today we can look at a print of ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’ from 1938(?) and see how Kodachrome-like the color is, by comparing the outdoor sequences to Kodachrome slides from the late 1930s. I wish I knew if the two companies ever collaborated during the time before 1935. Did the Kalmuses know the Eastmans? It seems like there might be some interesting stories from that time period in the histories of the two companies.

Fuji 400H idled 2/3’s of my camera fleet. Almost killed photography for me. It’s a struggle, I feel like my dog died.

Unfortunately we will be very lucky to get these film stocks back. I predict an end to traditional Kodak and Fuji film stocks. Despite Kodak announcing they are trying to keep up with demand they have also announce a 20% increase in the price, which is already double if not triple what it was in 2018. We can only hope other companies break into the market and suply us with reasonably priced decent colour film stock. I'm not holding my breath!

Sadly, I tend to agree with you. It will also be interesting to see how the new increases curb demand.

For me I miss Kodak Ektapress, and Fujicolor from 100 to 800 speeds. as for E6, Most of the Ektachrome films that had the film speeds with the letter of X Meaning that the emulsions with a warming feature in shooting in overcast days - Love it as I love Ektachrome 64X, 100X, and 400X- Very Fine grain emulsions. And as for B/W films I do like the Ilford FP4+ & HP5+ but I really missed Fuji Neopan 400 & 1600, and also Fuji made 1600 Slide Film... SO if Letiz have two divisions in making cameras in both Digital, and FIlm then why can't Fuji have two divisions in making Film, and continue making Digital cameras just like Leitz... Good Video....
