There's nothing wrong with regretting any animal purchase. I spent 2500 on a Belgian Malinois puppy because I've always been good with training dogs. That was a mistake. That breed needs to continue to be strictly used for police work or some type of herding of animals. That's not a regular dog breed at all & I thought I could handle it but I couldn't. We live & we learn

My Friend has one but it’s super people aggressive having bit all of us in the friend group already. He sent it to get trained at a dog boot camp paying a lot they were able to get it super well trained to commands but not to be social he still hates when people walk up to him and tries to bite. If on leash though he stays loyal and ignores people walking next to him pretty much acting like a police dog. He see it as part of the family though now so it’s too late to get rid of but dayum that dog scares me even when wearing a muzzle the power it has in its bark and body when pushing you trying to bite you through it is terrifying

I agree it's a very hard to own breed. But I highly disagree that they can't be good pets and should only be used for police work. They are one of my favorite breeds and with the right knowledge, time, patience and dedication they make wonderful dogs. And there's so many people who CAN handle them.
@SocomElite

@PackAdventures One of the most rehomed dog breeds. I don't recommend them for anyone who isn't a professional. The average person does not have what it takes for a breed like that even if you've had success with multiple other breeds like myself...

I approve of recommending a Boa Imperator. My 9mo old is just chill and relaxed, loves his frozen-thawed mice but is very careful and doesn't want to bite anything else, and the 5-7 ft long he'll get when he's older is plenty big without getting unhandleable or seriously dangerous.

Don't get a brown anole. They're insanely fragile, skittish and fast. Mine hates me, as a bonus (because I had to syringe feed him for a while and he hated that). They're cheap but they need uvb, a fairly big terrarium for their size because they move a LOT (don't use the 10 gal recommended, I can't understand why people say it's ok, mine is in a 30, fully bioactive with a whole hibiscus tree in there and he does use ALL the space). They're basically a fish in an aquarium. And I have to put a blanket on his terrarium because he's scared when he sees my cats and won't eat

@@Roxx_Boxx Yeah, this is why they're sold as starter pets, they're so abundant that they're not a problem if they die. But I hate this way of thinking. It's an animal, no matter the cost, it's sad if it dies. Mine was not a pet, my colleague found him in her plants and I adopted it.

Butttttt I love anolessssss 😂😂😂They're absolutely hilarious to watch. I eventually wanna get a huge enclosure for anoles. Yeah they're more of a look dont touch pet, but I have other look don't touch reptiles and I actually enjoy them. I keep mourning geckos. They're way too tiny to hold and are about as skittish as anoles 💀. I still enjoy watching them scurry around their tank. When I get an anole it probably won't be a brown one though because I want something more colorful but who knows 😂 I said I'd never own a ball python and here I am with one and he's my favorite reptile that I currently own.

I’ve kept and bred fire skinks for years. I disagree completely on them not being suitable for most keepers. They are an amazing animal. They may not tolerate handling as well as some of the other skinks, being flighty and sometimes a bit nippy if you grab them, but they are one of the most personal and bold small lizards species I’ve ever worked with. They will climb out of their enclosures and gladly accept food from your hands. And you would be hard pressed to find any species that looks as beautiful as them and that displays as nice. WC animals are remarkably hardy. Not sure I’ve seen any real outstanding issues with them in over 28 years of working with them. Truly a species where they will make you rethink that handling reptiles is the only way to interact with them.
@ZaryaTheLaika

Same. I had both of the skink species Adam mentioned and confused why fire skink is #1. You don't see them in petstores very often nor in classifieds or rehoming ads

@trevor866 2 ай бұрын
@@avafigueroa6447 You really can’t go wrong. Like I said even WC rarely have problems. Sometimes they can missing a tip of their tail but when it comes to health they are sturdy animals. Proper protocol should be followed with all new animals. Quarantine and fecals but other than that I’ve never had a WC die on me. A lot of them will tolerate gentle handling, but they have a tendency to bite if you grab them. And they can pinch you pretty good.

I'm confused you shouldn't get Fire Skinks because they are generally wild caught, but how often are Schneiders Skinks captive bred? At least here in Europe they aren't. It has been done but not with any regularity. Most of them are wild caught.

I love my hoggie-boy and I wouldn't trade him for anything, but I will admit I've advised a few people that maybe a cornsnake would be a better choice for them. Weedle not eating for 3 months was stressful enough for me, knowing it was a possibility and aware of how to track and make sure he was still healthy despite it, but an 8 year old? eeeehn, maybe not.

I love my fire skink, I just almost never see her, at feeding time she pops out and she’s also prone to trying to bite my sprayer from time to time but she’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s just a shame since I have no way of telling hold old she is (she was wild caught, vet visit confirmed everything was good when I bought her and regular visits have continued to show that) she was fully grown when purchased so I get a little nervous not knowing if she’s gonna just die on me from old at some point

I agree heavily . Chameleons do require special care. I was fortunate enough to have a veiled chameleon when my friend needed a new home for hers. I thought it was going to be way harder than it actually turned out to be. After months of working with handling him at short intervals he eventually got used to the idea of being handled. I would only take him out 2-3 times a week for 20 mins or less. I plan to get a panther cham one day because theyre so beautiful

Always enjoy these mini classes, this is where you stand out. Totally get not recommending Anacondas, I think about Brian's Ivy and how Mike has to clean her water a minimum of 3 times a day. I was thinking they need some kind of flushing system that senses when she has a movement and automatically removes it,lol, probably would freak her out though. All the others make sense and it was great that you made other recommendations. Thanks Adam, always learning new things on your channel.🐍🦎❤️👍

I will say Adam, I have a BCI, a hognose, a rat snake and a KSB and the sand boa is my favorite. Sure, he can go underground for 2 wks at a clip sometimes but many nights he climbs up the hammock I put in his tank and pokes at the lid until I open it so he can crawl out onto my hand. He is the closest to acting like a dog out of all of my pets excluding (maybe) my actual dog! Haha I know he's the exception but my KSB is a climber and a cuddler for sure.

I've wanted a fire skink for years actually.. 😂 The Schneider's is fine and all, but not as pretty. Not that they are all that expensive, but its costly to keep up with pets in general. Of course, the more exotic you are looking for reptiles, the higher the cost. Its a long-term commitment as most of them stick around for a while. While I dont have the greatest track record with snakes, I've had my leopard gecko about 18 years now. She's pretty much as hardy as they come and still thriving! Not the best shedder, but I step when I have to. 😅😄 Although lately I've strongly been considering a colorful hognose morph. That or a true red-tail Bcc. I love the Suriname, Peruvian and Guyana boas most. Just if it requires more than 2 bulbs daily.. (1 if I'm being super* honest) or like 119% humidity at all times, I'm so GOOD. 😂🤣

Great list, and totally true! I’ve also heard that chameleons equal vet bills! And exotic vet bills can go through the roof!

Nicaraguan boas. Got one hoping it would stay smaller than a regular BCI. Strikes at the face with no warning 😅 my big bci is super chill

I really regretted buying a trio of Kenyan Sand Boas. Just really didn't enjoy keeping them. I rehomed them with a family who was really into them.

I have a ball python and i really want to get into hognose. I kind of have to keep things small scale because of the size of my house. I would love a BCI some day but if i had one now, it would have to be the only reptile I have. I really want to get a bigger home so I can expand a bit more. Maybe have my own reptile room.

I disagree with KSBs being a beginner boa, they can be really finicky with feeding.

Me watching reptile channels: “oh man I REALLY want a pied ball python 🐍 !!! So bad!! And an Argentinian Tegu!! And an albino boa!!! And that iridescent sunshine one that burrows!! And a Children’s python!!! And some milk frogs 🐸!!!!” Me in reality: “Molly cat, please come cuddle with with me! Awww you’re so fuzzy!! You’re the best.” Sometimes, sadly, you just gotta know who you are. 😢😢

Also I don’t think Molly Cat, who is 16, would appreciate new reptilian or amphibian roommates. She’s happiest when guests leave and it’s just me focusing on her. 😂😂

And if you're specifically dead set on a small, gentle, "beginner" level BOA, consider a Rosy boa. You'll see em more often than a KSB, and vs. a hoggie, well... they're boas. Really there's not a whole hell of a lot of difference between a hognose and a rosy boa, except the hog has keeled scales and an upturned nose, while the rosie has stripes. One is a boa and the other's a colubrid lol 😂
