The lack of Boks, who won the thing, makes the selection look a bit unmerited, particularly in the front row.

In my pre tournament predictions I noticed that I had South Africans as the second choice in every position in the pack. The consistency of their strength overwhelms the individual brilliance of other teams.

@greenplasticgun4 жыл бұрын
@@LB_die_Kaapie I dunno, I think they're being honest about their selections. It's just that we play so much as a team, no one stands out much more above the rest that they draw attention. Obvs people like PSDT and Kolbe, but I think players like Kolisi, Duane, Mapimpi and Damian we all as good, so it's a very even team, hence no individuals really make it into the tournament teams a whole lot, save PSDT and Kolbe.

@@greenplasticgun I hear you, but I also think that the Boks are a lot better than most people think... Its, I believe what will 'disturb' the world in years to come. Also on Flannery's pick of Joe Moody cos of what he did against the Boks - but the first game Moody's elbow was on the ground for every scrum (???), meaning the Boks couldn't demonstrate their dominance ... guess we could say Moody was clever since he didn't get caught
@darrenholliday76704 жыл бұрын
I disagree slightly on Moody. Malherbe had the upper hand in that first game, Moody lost his bind quite a few times but went unpunished by Garces.

When he picked Maro Otoje and Scott Barret over any of Etzeveth, Mostert, Wyn Jones, Snyman or Ratalik or Lood DeJager demonstrates that this dude is just sore, sour and salty.

Itoje is a decent pick, but I agree that any of Etzebeth, De Jager, Snyman should have been the other lock.

I’m a Springbok supporter and nearly stopped this video when the tight 5 were done but I thought let’s give it a crack to the end... It surprised me listening to the the choices and the reasons thereof and I must say I was not disappointed in the end. The argument about the overall playing minutes dictating the choices in the tight 5 for me is valid especially once the comments about PSDT was done. It made me take my Bokke cap off and really think about what was the principle ideology behind these choices. This was a completely different take on anything else I’ve seen so far and hats of to that. Personally I disagree with more than half of it but it is certainly valid within the holistic context of the RWC. Well done!

As a South African, I don't have a problem with the lack of Boks in this list. They never set the tournament on fire until the final and other teams really caught the eye throughout. It doesn't mean the Boks don't have great players, this is just about the most impressive players over the course of the WHOLE tournament. It doesn't matter, most of us are just grateful for the win and are enjoying the celebrations still 😁

The point was that SA never played their best game until it mattered. Where as NZ played their best against Ireland, Eng against NZ and SA against ENG

Guess the Boks are happy to have Rassie as the Coach, your selection was simply emotional. How can you exclude the Beast. When he came out of the first loose scrum smiling and sweat pouring, it gave me confidence they had England beat. Now don’t think I’m taking anything away from the whole pack.....simply awesome. So..so many Boks to mention and they were rewarded with honours.Win up front and you can win the game...PERIOD.... Jones said it .... a new thinking was forced into rugby. Why have a bench if you don’t use them effectively and nobody in my many years of watching this game ever did it better than Rassie. To be so committed to a plan over a tournament, got to give it to him. While all the other coaches focused on the specific game, Rassie focused on the Final with a team that can be beaten but you will have to outsmart the game plan and no coach did. So give it to the team for sticking to it, a team sport while you stick to the game plan. No individual heroism.

I have seen many of Flannery's commentaries on the RWC but while he seems knowledgeable in some aspects, he has a tendency to teem and loves his own voice and opinion. I get the idea that his 'alternative' team is just that - trying to be different just for the sake of it. When you see the likes of 'elbow on the floor Joe Moody' and Biggar who's missed the tackle on De Allende who scored the try costing Wales a spot in the finals at the end, then you cant take this selection seriously. And no matter the tight 5 of the Boks only playing half the game, that is not their fault but an astute coaches strategy, would you penalize a player for that? Like so many of the pundits that predicted an England win, it would always come to this class of punditry as a big surprise when the likes of SA spanked the in vogue blue eyed favourites. If you want allround knowledgeable commentaries, rather look to channels such as Hakatime that does in-depth analysis. I would put Flannery in the same bracket as Matt Dawson who wouldnt put one Springbok in the England team before the final. Maybe Flannery should just put a sock in it and listen to Felix Jones who sat close to the fire and learn how it is done rather than shooting the breeze.

I’ll say it again, The Beast was not necessarily the best in the first 10 Minutes of the game but Man he gave it to them.... how can I exclude the whole front row. But that look on his face coming out of the loose scrum said everything. “We’ll grind them and take them out of the game”. And by the time he went off the field in the 43 minute, England were done, the final plan went into action and the boys showed who they are....WINNERS

De Allende defence was far superior to Manu and he made far more meters and created far more panic in the opposition backline. Every other selection has DeAllende there and most have Beast up front. Beast showed his power and was reminiscent of when he scrummed Phil Vickery into the ground on the lion tour 2009. I get what he is saying about the subs but in the final the damage was already done.

Wez van Dez I’m not being down on them they did well . But they lost to the ABs and really struggled against an understrength Wales. Japan gave them bit of a scare for a while. Just saying, till the final there wasn’t really a glittering performance which I think is fair. They were massive underdogs with the bookies because of that. Fair play for a fantastic tactical masterpiece in the final though and deserved winners.

Joseph Coleman really not trying to be. Giving the credit for the final. Wales game was a bad advert for rugby so wouldn’t big that one up. Seems the saltiness is coming from your side. Just in the context of what this video is trying to do, SA had few “stars of the show” till the last game and even there it was more a coaching victory. I’m really not trying to detract. The final was a lesson of team tactics backed up by talent that deserved the win.
