Go to any country bar and play "friends in low places". Literally everyone will stop what they are doing to sing along. It's no longer just a song, it's an experience.

It looks like your brother also worked with Don Williams and Keith Whitley as well back in the day...? That is one HELL of an amazing line up of artists he has worked with!! Is your brother still working in the music biz?? He has some serious talent - I'd love to see what he and Chris Stapleton could come up with - bet it would be damn near magical. 😊

Oh... they remember Ray, alright... whether they admit to it or not. Particular songs might not exactly register, just depending on when or where you first heard the thing. AND... it's worth note that not everyone expects to connect Ray Stevens with "Country" as a genre. There are certain connotations, and expectations for the somewhat less initiated. (aka "the take it too seriously crowd"). ;o)

Confederate railroad- Daddy never was the Cadillac kind. Great video. Look up Waylon Jennings man. Theres an outlaw. Not all country songs are about losing the truck, dog, house, the ole ladie runnin off with the toothless neighbor. The truck is paid for, so is the house(trailer), the dog runs around loose anyway and stays gone 2/3 days at a time anyway runnin some crider or gettin laid, and you were gettin sick of the ole lady anyway. Love the videos by the way.

You are my Sunshine, always puts me in a good mood and it gets me emotional. It's a simple song. But, it's about humanity and family. It's a way of saying and expressing what every human being should hear and know in their hearts. That they are loved. We sing it as a lullaby, we sing it when times are sad and we sing it when times are good.

Josh, You are straight up hilarious. I really enjoy the way you share your thoughts. It is a gift. Regarding the list, those 5 are definitely on the right track. I would recommend some others. "Believe" by Brooks and Dunn, "Ole Red" by Blake Shelton, "Somebody Lied" by Ricky Van Shelton, and "Either Way" by Chris Stapleton. Faith, Story-telling, and Relationships are the bedrock of country. Add these to your listening experience.

These are the lyrics if anyone wants to know I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house That don't bother me I can take a few tears now and then and just let 'em out I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while Even though goin' on with you gone still upsets me There are days every now and again I pretend I'm okay But that's not what gets me What hurts the most was being so close And havin' so much to say And watchin' you walk away And never knowin' what could've been And not seein' that lovin' you Is what I was trying to do It's hard to deal with the pain of losin' you everywhere I go But I'm doing it It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone Still harder gettin' up, gettin' dressed, livin' with this regret But I know if I could do it over I would trade, give away all the words that I saved in my heart That I left unspoken What hurts the most was being so close And havin' so much to say And watchin' you walk away And never knowin' what could've been And not seein' that lovin' you Is what I was trying to do, oh What hurts the most was being so close And havin' so much to say And watchin' you walk away And never knowin' what could've been And not seein' that lovin' you Is what I was trying to do That's what I was trying to do, ooh

Josh, "Friends In Low Places" was one of the songs that was played at my Dad's funeral back in '91. It still to this day is one of my favorite songs that I don't like to hear. But I will listen, because it makes me think of my Dad.
