You guys are amazing. you bring so much light and warmth in my life. (can't be helped, usually indoors coding) I am watching all your videos like a series from the time you got the van, they calm me down. I can work for hours (software and web dev) without burning out. There is so much good in this world. Not only are you showing it to us, you are part of it as well, and for that I am eternally grateful. remember to stay safe.

I'm sure you'll never read this far down, but I have something to say. I started watching your videos at the start of the pandemic. At the same time, I started watching hiking vlogs of people hiking the three longest National Scenic Trails (AT, PCT, CDT). Even though most of the virus craziness is gone, I still watch you....and the hikers. I even suggested you guys hike the AT when you solicited ideas from your viewers months ago. This collision of worlds is blowing my mind. Thank you to you and all the hikers that pulled together to keep me sane for two years. Oh, and this year alone, I've traveled to europe, and last month I did my first solo backpacking trip.

You guys brought up two important points about backpacking: 1) it makes you grateful for garbage pickup, flushable toilets, showers, and water faucets; and 2) it is nice to work for your scenery -- a hard hike usually brings great rewards (beauty, solitutude, etc). I loved this video! It's nice when you guys get back to the basics and just simply exist.

Hi Kara and Nate, I'd love to learn more the travel gear that you used, like the portable stove and water filter. Please consider providing links in your part two video. I know this trip must be long over, but, if you ever do this again, it is possible to set up a small tent inside some lean-tos. It also keeps you warmer than either the tent or lean-to alone. Also: One of those emergency blanket things that weigh like one oz. are a great addition to your backpack. It can be used instead of a tarp under your pads. Also: Nate definitely knew who had the smelly feet-he was too much of a gentleman to say! (could tell by the look on his face as you turn away.) Happy Trails!

We were eating ham and cheese sandwiches in those mountains when I was a kid. A big old bear and her two cubs came by and wanted some. My dad had us all run to our wood grained station wagon and watch the bears as they ate everything he couldn’t gather quickly enough. Best memory ever! The momma bear even picked up our Coleman water jug and drank out of it until all the water was gone, then she easily tossed it about 20 feet. 🤣🤣🤣 It was 1987 or 1998, but it’s one of my first and favorite memories!!!

Stunning nature videography in this - VERY IMPRESSED with your ability to identify a good camera shot and get the sound and background to cooperate. You must have hours of video to get those shots. Impressive, I mean National Geographic quality shots!

The funniest (or maybe sad?) thing about the shelter is that on the bunk bed, there's a K-Pop fan that came by and etched TOP and G-Dragon on the wood.

Don't worry Kara, the only places I've camped were VERY commercialized, so I had no idea chapstick could attract bears! 🤣 I wouldn't survive just because idk what all the bears are attracted to

The answer is literally anything with scent. Toothpaste, deodorant, chapstick, bug spray, sunscreen. The only thing in your tent should be you and a sleeping bag.

1. Put water into the jetboil before lighting. 2. Repackage food to get rid of the bulky store packaging. It helps cut on weight, cuts down on trash, and if you use ziplocs you can repurpose for trash or dirty clothes once you’ve eaten the food. 3. Hiking poles add weight but are super helpful for crossings over water. It’s like having four feet.
