Bon jour, Marie-Anne! I can attest to the fact we often have more than we think we do, because last summer I moved…TWICE in six months! That’s when I started really paring down the items in my closet to the ones I really loved and were truly flattering.

Good tips. I also found that there is a lot of guilt associated with purging items you spend money on. My tip is to learn to give yourself permission to let go of items and do with less. Buying better quality helps reach that goal.

I’m in the same situation, I lost 30 lbs and nothing fits - my clothes literally fall off. How I wish I hadn’t overbought so much in the past! I love many of these garments, so I am trying to do simple alterations where I can. Expensive garments that are two sizes (or 3) too big, or complicated very structured ones that would essentially need to be remade, I will try to sell. I can’t afford to replace a whole wardrobe, even at the cheapest quality level, and I think I will lose even more weight. So, for now I am buying a bare minimum of inexpensive clothes.

@@kimberlyperrotis8962 Kimberly, I've lost 50 lbs over 3-plus years. I never bought secondhand clothes before but have been and very happy with what I've found - both in stores, Poshmark and ebay. I've always wondered about people who have clothing "exchange" parties and wonder how that would work.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I buy a lot of my clothing at Goodwill and consignment shops. I. find many new clothes still with Talbots and other labels/tags still on. I have scarves from Dior, Cartie, Ferragamo, etc, all of which I got there too. You never know what you will find. The good stores are worth seeking out! Have fun building your new wardrobe for the slimmer you. I am doing the same, having also lost weight. Enjoy building your new wardrobe!

Thank you for your kind comments. I’ve lost 4 stone 4 lbs/ 60 lbs/ 27kg since Dec 2018 by using a calorie controlled diet app. It’s helping me eat very healthily as it tells me what nutrients you I’m eating. I’m physically disabled and would eventually need a crane to get me in and out of bed if I carried on the way I was going! I’m now at the top end of being overweight instead of being quite obese. So I’m far from skinny but it’s a wonderful improvement. I wish all of you success and fun in your weight loss and wardrobe endeavours.

Great ideas Marie-Anne, I have buckets all over my studio apartment. My cat also likes to use them for purches. Its not good to put all your eggs in one basket so I put my sweaters that aren't green, burgundy, red, black, etc in my January tub, including yellows, pinks, aquas and other bright colors. January is the bright winter month. You can stack the tubs next to the sofa or chair for end tables and coffee tables.

Bonjour! Enjoyed this very practical video a lot. I am not a minimilist, but I easily feel drowned or depressed by too much clothes and too many things cluttering a closet or room. I the past I had difficulty in letting go of good clothing, but if I don't wear it, what is the use?! I learned to only buy what I really need and if it is suits me well. I easily get rid of items I don't use, so no need for me to take out 1 item for 365 days! Nothing is more freeing than to open an organized closet and being able to clearly see what you are looking for. It makes me calmer and happier if my closet is neat, all items visible and not overcrowded by stuff that you don't use. Loved tip no 5 if the new you will wear an item! Thanks and keep healthy!

These days when many of us are at home are perfect to de clutter our closets and let the spring energy circulate around our closet. We must make sure we keep only the things we love, those that we can’t live without and make us look and feel great. My closet at home is with nothing more than my favorite clothes. However my closet at the beach house was a mess of clothes I didn’t like in the city plus some nice ones for the beach. Two weeks ago before the emergency, I finally got rid of many old and unnecessary clothes that were stranded there. Ladies, do it now, you will feel better knowing you have just what makes you happy. Have a wonderful and safe week at home and let the good vibes of spring enter your home. Au revoir Marie-Anne!

The last tip is so powerful! 💙❤️ A few years ago I lost myself for a while and literally saw the usual ‘me’ - both in style and confidence - walk into a cafe one day. Dare I say the service she was getting compared to me made me realise how low I’d gotten and it snapped me back into giving myself the care and confidence that I deserve. My top tip with decluttering is to do the *prep work* - both the psychology and journaling - and then be ruthless with removing items which don’t work anymore. Most of all enjoy the process and new energy! You can do it! ☀️ 🌷

Another problem a lot of us will have is how best to manage and where to store clothes that have been downgraded for gardening? I hang things n the closet like dresses, things I don't want wrinkled, vests/shrugs and other clothing accessories. I also hang somethings I want to remind myself to wear. Once weakly, I assemble outfits and hang them together on an antique lamp stand. After my clothes have drip dryed, I hang them on my curtain rod in the living room. I assemble my outfits according to what I see in magazines. I get great ideas for color and other combinations.

Why don't we purchase these necessaries a long the way as we need them? Also, is it a good idea to put away winter clothing if I am mostly likely not venturing out for awhile (since I wear work out clothing at home)? TY for your sage advise and good humor.

On my birthday each September 1. As I move my Fall-winter wardrobe to the main closet. I move all the hangers facing out. Then, as I wear something, clean it and put it back, I make the hanger face In. Then on April 1 all the items that the hanger is STILL facing OUT, I know that I have NOT worn. As I transition to Spring Summer wear. I can SEE what I did not wear during the winter months. Those pieces I get rid of, No matter HOW much I "LIKE" them. Then as I hang the Spring Summer up. All hangers face out YET again. and in September. All the hangers still facing OUT, we know I did not wear and will get rid of THOSE, no matter HOW much I "LIKE" them. Doing this once or twice, and I found I have FAVORITE pieces, and my closet is well organized. Not to mention color coordinated. But that is a WHOLE different OCD post. ;-)

Most of these actions I learned from my Grandmother. She always had a saying, "If you don't use something in 6 months, You never will Get rid of it." This, of course, did not apply to seasonal things like Christmas Decorations, Where she thought the MORE the BETTER! This was more for clothing. Some kitchen things. But with EACH cleaning of the closet, She added JUST as much as she deleted. I happen to be a lot more conservative with my purchasing.
