Just decluttering and "spring" cleaning would take most of us half-way or more to our goal of a happy, comfortable, home. Clean windows, mirrors, chrome fixtures brings beautiful light into the home. Ditto dusting/washing light fixtures -- even light bulbs. Use lemon wax on wood furniture to bring a soft glow and nice scent to the pieces. Bleach white linens. Clean porcelain with Barkeeper's Friend or a Scrub Daddy to remove any calcium deposits. Take a duster to the walls, tops of curtain rods, top of door jambs, windowsills, top of cabinets, top of fridge, etc. vacuum everything to remove that musty-dusty odor. Put a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil on a cotton ball and suck it up into your vacuum to spread a gentle scent when you vacuum. Wash the dogs bed and dishes. Just clean...clean...clean. Suddenly your disappointing and perhaps even depressing home will have a nice scent, a beautiful glow, little sparks of light where lamp-light hits mirrors. Whew. Peace and beauty all round you.

1. Dead Plants: Discard 2. Laundry: Get 2 or big hampers. 1 for Clean clothes, 1 for Dirty 3. Entry: Get rid of entry landing pad junk. Put the stuff away! 4. Office Space: Dedicate one area for this space. Find great lighting, storage & a chair. Create a nice backdrop for Zooms. 5. Repairs: Get them done, assign jobs if possible. EXTRA: Projects! Plan & organize before you start.

Some projects are virtually impossible to organize in advance. I found this out the hard way. In early December, I took up the daunting project of ripping out wall-to-wall carpeting and all the wood nail beds, nails and staples, only to find that whoever painted the ceiling didn't bother to put down a drop cloth to protect the hardwoods below. After scraping a bazillion paint drops off the hardwoods (of course, with all the furniture moved into other parts of my home), I next tackled sanding. Midway through sanding, and ten defective sanders later, I next found myself the victim of a stranger's negligence with damage to my car and injuries to my person, putting the completion of my hardwoods on a 7-week hold. Then the cold snap hit, so opening bedroom windows to do the staining was out. Did I mention my whole house has been in an upheaval for almost two months now? Who organizes or plans for all that? Here, I thought I had a week-long project ahead of me. Not even including the wood bleach and wood filler projects ahead of me, it will be about March before it's all finished! Do I feel overwhelmed? YES!! But I am so glad to have that carpeting gone!
