Toby, you can count 1 to 8 b4 hitting again the count 1 in 60 speed in Metronome.

When I was a child in school band ,we were taught to tap out foot at the same speed as a metronome. It was one of the first thing we learned and it is so ingrained that to this day 50+ years later I still do it .

It’s simply based on the g major pentatonic g - a -b - d - e - g 2 - 4 -1 -4 - 1 - 4

Great drill, James and Toby. Rhythm and timing are two of the most important aspects, if not the most important, for a bass player. How fast and how many notes you can play are way down the list. I have used a similar drill with a metronome, and it has helped my timing immensely.

There is an exception to the rule: German audience always claps on 1-2-3-4.
