Here's my story: I worked at a zoo for years as a teen(SF, CA zoo.) A few times when I was in the nursery building doing laundry for my facility (laundry was in that building) I got to play with the a baby gorilla who was in the nursery at that time. SO amazing and I will never forget the feel of that little gorilla girl's hands and feet. Years later I read about a child who fell into the gorilla enclosure at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois and how a mother gorilla there, with her own baby on her back, protected him and brought him to a door where keepers could retrieve him. That mother gorilla was Binti Jua, the same baby gorilla I had the opportunity to get to know a little bit when she was a baby in my zoo. Binti Jua means daughter of Sunshine in Swahili. Our male gorilla that fathered her was named Sunshine. That's the end of my happy zoo story. :-)

I was at the zoo in Bulgaria, and at the time my favourite animal was an elephant. Anyway, we were by the enclosure and the elephant uses its trunk to pull a bunch of flowery weeds from the ground and begins to walk over to me. It couldn't reach across the barrier with its trunk, but it stretched as far as it could towards me with the hopes of giving me the flowers.

I have multiple giraffe paintings, a pile up to my waist of stuffed giraffe animals, hand crafted giraffe sculptures, and my entire nightstand is covered in giraffe things. Not only that, but I have a stuffed giraffe that size of an actual baby giraffe. I'm 5'7 and a half, and it's taller than me. I also have a giraffe onesie. So fight me, Amanda!

this story was pretty old i think from 2008 or something, a little boy fell in a gorilla den and the zoo keepers started spraying water to keep them away, but then a female gorilla saw the little boy, picked him up and carried him to the exit door and held him close till the zoo keepers picked him up, it was the sweetest thing ever :D

I saw something like that on Untame and Uncut. A boy fell into a gorilla enclosure and he suffered some broken bones and you could hear his scream. It was a horrible scream, a heart reaching scream. The mom was freaking out, as expected cause you know, he fell into a pit with gorillas. So, a big old male gorilla came up to him and just stared at him, curiously. There were other younger gorillas that, if they got hold of him, probably would have killed him. But the older gorilla stood there and protected the boy from the younger gorillas. The zoo keepers kept the younger gorillas at bay and eventually got the boy out. It was such a sweet moment. The gorilla now has a statue at the zoo. The boy fully recovered and doesn't have much memory of the thing. It's on youtube somewhere.

I once went to a zoo in Mexico, Chiapas and all the animals had really big enclosures where they could live as if they were in the wild. Me and my friends got to look at this beautiful jet black jaguar that came up to us. We were separated by glass, but the zookeeper actually let us touch the jaguar. It was under very controlled conditions, there were like 10 zookeepers around us. But it was amazing, his fur felt soft but think and it was awesome. I really enjoyed it

Anyways, he gets knocked unconscious, and the gorillas start caring for him, and one actually picks him up and cradles him until he comes to. She was so protective of him that the zookeepers can't get him, and all of the other gorillas in the enclosure were huddled around so they couldn't do anything until they dispersed. The kid was taken to the hospital and apparently he had gotten a cut in his head, but the bleeding had stopped because of something that the gorillas did. They saved his life!

Once, I made a cookie. Then I went to the zoo, and tried to ate my cookie. A dog at the zoo tried to eat it, but it was a chocolate chip cookie and dogs can't have chocolate. I didn't let him have it, and I left soon after. While I was in the car, I thought about it and made a decision. So, when I got home, I made a dog biscuit from scratch and baked it. Then I drove back to the zoo. When I got there, I snuck into the office building and checked the guest book. I didn't know the owner's name, so I found it after hours of surfing Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. At this point, the zoo was closed. I had broken in. I found when the guest with the dog had left, then drove to his house. When I got there, I knocked on the door. No one answered within a few seconds, so I picked the lock and went in. I looked all around the house for the dog, but I couldn't find it. Then, I realized it was quite a large doggy treat. I went to their kitchen and grabbed a knife to cut it in half.

I finally found the only room that I hadn't checked yet in the house, and went in. The owner sat up very quickly and blinked. Then he saw me. His dog, who was on the bed, started barking and growling. The man stood up and advanced towards me. I indicated that I only wanted to give this dog a treat, but he didn't listen. He said stay away from my dog. But this dog needed its treat. He stood in front of the dog, not letting me go any further. I had come to my wits end. I took up the knife and stabbed him. This dog needed a treat. I stepped over the body and lay the treat on the carpet. I cut it in half, careful to wipe off the blood. It could be bad for dogs. Then, I fed that dog half of the homemade biscuit that I had baked from scratch after feeling bad about not letting him have my cookie at the zoo. He ate it all. Then, I left.

I have volunteered at the zoo a few years in the summer while I’m out of school and this year I worked in the Wallaby and Wallaroo enclosure. I was lucky enough to be able to pet them and it was so cute!

It wasn't a zoo but a "safari adventure" type thing. I was there with my nephew and his wife and like 5 year old boy. You could look at animals in enclosures until enough people were there for a bus ride. The enclosures were pretty good, clean and spacious. They had baby tigers, sloths, a giraffe and all the farm animals. I loved it. On the bus, a road wound through the grounds and the animals-all kinds of deer, oxen, buffalo (*not bison*), burros and a few antelope would come up to the bus and take food from your hand. My great nephew loved it!
