I'm not gonna lie. I paused this video at 0:36 just to comment this. I like this guy. he doesn't seem stuck up and snobby like the rest of the KZbin guitarists I've seen and he keeps it real. " I'm not even gonna pretend like I know the rest of that solo" 😂

I'm an old-school bluesy/rock guitar player and I've been playing for over 30 years. When I saw the link for this video, my old fart brain immediately thought, "Oh wow. Here's another long-haired douche who's just going to play fast and not teach anything". I was totally wrong, you ARE NOT a douche, and I always like it when I'm proven wrong in this manner - lol. I've know all of these riffs for decades, but if I believe in anything about guitar, I have a very firm belief in helping bring up new players so the traditions can continue. You've done an excellent job here. I'm going to e-mail my 13 year old son a link to this video and tell him to git workin' on these riffs. You've inspired this old dog to learn some new tricks. THANK YOU!!! :)

My nephews all pitched in and bought me an SG guitar. The first song or riff I tried to learn was Thunderstruck. The most common advice I've received is learn to play the riff slowly and the speed of the riff will follow. Well I got the slow part down but I can't seem to learn how to play up to speed. I get so frustrated that I put the guitar away for awhile and then after some time I try again but same result.

Can you make a video or a suggestion of certain solos that everyone should learn to help progress?
@brendandoherty93798 жыл бұрын
William White any guns n roses solos bud, if your total new to soloing start off with knocking on heavens door or maybe patience if you want an acoustic solo. Slash solos are amazing but to really learn to solo well learn what position each lick is being played in and figure out how he's connecting all the boxes together. Once you have the boxes figured out put on a jam track and start soloing. Use them licks you learnt from knocking on heavens door or any other songs uv learnt and just play them with different jam tracks in different keys and in different order to mix it up a bit, your ear will tell you what sounds good. Have fun with it man
@williamwhite70418 жыл бұрын
brendandoherty9379 thanks for the tips. Haven't really played any slash solos. I'm not new to soloing but new to shredding. I've been working on Nuno bettencourts solo from play with me. I got it down just not up to his speed.
@brendandoherty93798 жыл бұрын
William White m Dude that's awesome, if your into playing solos like that you should start following Claus levin on KZbin, man this guy is an amazing neo classical teacher. I started his neo classical academy 12 week course 2 weeks ago it's expensive but you can pay monthly for 4 months that's what I did. But I'm telling you it's worth it your playing will reach a different level instantly. He also has a free course on the site aswell you should try that before you decide to buy the 12 week course and see if you like it. I have no ties to him I'm not a sales man. But check him out for sure man I think ul love the lessons. He's took my playing to a whole new level very fast

True. Especially just learning to play. Ive seen a few people that taught themselves avoid using there pinky.
@CiPhEr5058 жыл бұрын
Brian Kaiser Yeah, it's all about working on the ring finger and pinky. They're the two weakest digits, the ring finger's tendons are connected to the middle finger so making it operate independently is tough, and some songs like "Born to be Wild" need a real stretch from the pinky.

Intermediate player...now...started playing when I was about 14, pretty much put it down in my mid to late 20s, in my 40s now. Struggling with bad habits I picked up while learning all those years ago. I can attest to the importance of learning chords first (you only need 4 after all), basic scales before solos & stuff (I learned entire solos without understanding the theory behind them, how they fit into the key of the song, etc.) and my most important bad habit is not using my pinky finger. Always found a way around it which now makes it harder to actually use it, which makes lead playing SO much easier. The other thing I wish I learned early was the importance of alternate picking and finger picking (mainly for acoustic). And I still can't execute a proper bar chord most of the time, lol.

they are not beginner friendly, but they can teach you guitar really well. I've been playing for two years, and it took me 5 months to learn them all, but now things like paranoi smoke in the water, nirvana and so on look pretty easy

Like he said in the video, you (meaning the beginner) don't have to play it at full speed at the first time. And the thing is, you can't get better if you'll be stuck at easy shit all the time, you have to try harder things.

The nice thing about those riffs is you can record a little loop with them and work on your pentatonic leads when you get to that stage. I think Daytripper is actually in C instead of E. Not as beginner in C, though. Plus it has another really good riff that you can use for blues kinds of things after that first riff that is actually easier than the first riff. Come Together is another good Beatles riff that is beginner friendly. Good video! Thanks.

Hi Robert, awesome tips. You sound like one of the best tutors on here. However, one of the main problems beginners encounter and it is a major deterrent is the finger sores. A common mistake that most guitar tutors make is advising pressing down hard on the strings by the fingertips until they hurt. Can you cover that please?
