"it'll keep your pet stimulated for hours" I got my cat a treat dispenser ball toy from the pet store. He figured out he can hold the ball down with his paw and lightly shake it to get treats. No chasing, no running after like 10 minutes when he realized he can have it done the easy way.

Great! Love these! Except #1 is a strangulation hazard. If you’re setting that up for unsupervised play, that string should be no more than a few inches long.

The idea of setting up toys to play when you're not home is great but be very careful about elastic cords . My cat almost died strangled while playing when an elastic cord wrapped around its neck. The cat was pulling it trying to get rid of it and the more was pulling the worst . Luckily I was home and immediately cut the cord.

These ideas are great, other than the last one. Unless you have a bunch of kittens, I wouldn't recommend giving your cat so many treats at a time.

As long as you are giving the right treats there is no reason why you can't, most commercial cat treat should be avoided anyway since they contain terrible ingredients. Properly dried meat is the best thing to provide since the only difference between that and their normal diet is the dryness, just remember to subtract it from their meals so they don't overfeed :)

ErinsAnimals Yes, thanks for the reply. My cat tends to overfeed on treats- somehow she can get at them even when they're locked up in a drawer. It says on my cat treat bag no more than 10 pieces a day, but dried meat is a great alternative. Thanks! :)

Another great diy cat toy is to take empty plastic easter eggs and put either a bell or rice inside and tape them shut. Then to make sure the cats cant open the egg you can crochet a cover for the egg. The cover also allows your cat to bite the toy and carry it around. These easter egg toys also work very well for ferrets.

I think it's really cool because is you don't want to play with your cat for a wile and if you have a extra room you could put all that stuff in there so the cat could play wile you leave or other... BUT HAVE A LITTER BOX AND CAT FOOD

If you don't have a drill but you need to poke holes into something plastic like the jar use the tip of a hot glue gun to melt through so there are no rough edges. This works great for temporary confinement for small rodents and reptiles.

I'm not sure about leaving dangling things out for your cat. My friend left out a string for her cat and when she got home her cat was hanging dead from the railing for the steps. She got the string wrapped up on the railing and around her neck. So sad. Watch out for your fluffy little fellas and keep them safe

Erin, I really need help! I had two cats, Pikaciu and Sandy ( 1 year and a half; almost 1 year) they were sisters by motherhood and although they didn't like each other at the start, Sandy slowly aproached Pikaciu and started to suckle like Pikaciu was her mother. They had a very strong relationship less than a year and played together and they were so happy! About a month ago, Pikaciu got sick (she was always more sensible because she was from a litter of 5 kits) and she got sick before, and I wasn't worried. She started to vomit on Wednesday I think, I took her to the vet, they gave her injections, antibiotics and so on. Pikaciu didn't want to eat, so the vet advised me to give her wet food even if she doean't want. I gave her lots, and lots of water and she still vomited. But it was better because she had something in her belly to vomit. I took her to the vet on Tuesday and on Friday morning she reacted very badly and I took her to the emergency, but she died on the way. :'( Now Sandy, she was always wild and fidgety and active, although she drinks water, eats food and the vet said she's healthy, she always sleeps on the pillow she sat together with Pikaciu, and only on half of it. She rarely plays and she's not the same. When you go to her, she purrs gently and goes back to sleep. She always looks depressed and it's killing me to see her like that. What can I do? I don't want to lose her too!

The long string with toys attached can be dangerous for a cat if left to use it unsupervised. I once had such a string attached to a claw tree. I went out for about 15 minutes, and upon my return, I opened the door, and I heard my cat crying in pain and fear. The cat had played with the string, and somehow got it tangled around it's paw. As it pulled to try to free itself, the string only got tighter, cutting in to it's wrist and paw, drawing blood. I am glad that I was only gone a short time. I can't imagine if I had been gone for hours while my sweet cat suffered in pain. DON'T leave ANY string toy just available. You need to let the cat use it with supervision. Be careful.

I take about 5-6” piece of aluminum foil, crumple it up into a tight ball, small enough to carry in my cat’s mouth, but big enough so he won’t choke on it (about 1-1/2” diameter). I toss it, or kick it. He runs after it and brings it back. He can also bat at it by himself.
