1.2cr of my father's net worth is stck in IEPF . Every year TDS is cut on that divident and i have to go though a long process to adj that TDS as it should not be subtracted from our income as we are not getting that dividends in our hands why will i have to pay tax on it . I am just 17 and its very difficult for me to undeerstand all these things . i dont know where are papers or whatever of those shares my father never told me as i was child . i guess income tax know these detail as every year they cut TDS from my father's dividend.... and TDS is more than the pention amount so we dont get anything in our hand i have to claim refund every year

You are only seventeen so I think that you are computer savy & have enough language grasp. So it's not that much difficult. Don't approach firms offering to do it for you as they may claim a certain percentage as fee that may run into lakhs depending on the amount. In your case, they may demand a minimum of twenty five lakhs or more! I know as I went through this & for me the total share amount is only mere twenty five lakhs! First & foremost if you have the share certificates or any old dividend warrants you can note folio number & write to the company & they will provide all the details including their registrars viz share transfer agents. You can write to them for explicit details viz shares distinctive numbers, number of years of unclaimed dividends etc. If your dad has left a will your mother can claim, if there's no will, you have to apply for succession certificate. Succession certificate will take time that's around an year ( that's the time frame in Kerala) Yes, it depends according to your state government. Then you can create a user name on MCA website & fill up the IEPF Form 5 for making claim. If the shares is in demat form you can enquire with your father's bank whether if there's any demat account linked with your dad's bank account. Any way, you look around your house you may get tell tale signs of which companies your dad hold shares by annual report from company, correspondence etc. Since you are very small, your dad may have not told you anything, but it's most likely your mom will be aware. Start the process as soon as you can as the years go by, the process may get more complicated. Don't be hesitant to jump into the bus! Cheers & Keep Smiling!😀

❤ Namaskar. I have gone through your discussion. It was very enlightening. However, I like to have clarification on a few points. 1. I have, through the relative Nodal Officer, presented a few applications to the IEPF. The first such application [acknowledgement] is dated 06.08.2023 & the last acknowledgement is dated 21.12.2023. [all of them are of different companies, are in single name & I being the shareholder, fortunately still alive]. Not having received any information, referred the matter to the PMO & MCA. The response of the PMO stated that the applications are being processed & is being dealt on the basis of FIFO [first in, first out]. My point is how long does it generally take for the Shares/dividends to get credited? Secondly, is there any way to get the matter expedited? Please guide. 2. The next point is that after the application is made on IEPF-5 form & before the Shares are actually credited in the demat account, how does one get the dividend/Bonus issue/ interest on Bonus debentures etc declared by the company? Your guidance will go a long way in alleviating my tension. Kindly help. Thank you & Namaskar.

For getting the dividend and bonus issued to the shares, firstly drop an email to company registrar asking to provide the details of the unclaimed dividend and bonus. Once the details is provided by them ask them to release electronically.

You can get the folio number by directly contacting the company with your deceased share holder name, distinctive numbers etc if any. This is process is for physical shares! I am not sure how it's for demat account but may me mailing the company with your client master document may help.

Inefficient, useless, IEPF portal makes the claim process impossible, IEPF must make it simple, atleast when invester holding his valid physical share certificates. The intension seem to be discourage from claiming.
