Thanks for your tips! ❤ Radiation Therapist here and breast cancer survivor. When I was going through chemo, water didn’t even taste like water, it was salty to me. Normally, I’m not a fan of flavored drink packets but I did add them to my water so I could increase my water intake and actually enjoy it. After a couple days, water tasted like water again. I also used plastic silverware after chemo for a few days since regular silverware had a weird metallic taste, this also helped my patients getting treated for head and neck cancer. ❤

It’s amazing how something as simple as water can taste completely different during chemo. Using flavored drink packets is such a smart way to stay hydrated when plain water tastes off. Your insights are really valuable, both as a survivor and a radiation therapist!

My sense of taste is very dull right now. I pre-made a ton of little frozen smoothie cups, and I put zucchini in it (I don't like bananas and it has potassium in it).and the zucchini is the only thing I can taste! Spinach is usually my favorite but it tastes so strong right now.

It can be really frustrating when everything tastes different! It’s great that you’re getting creative with your smoothies, though. Sometimes foods you normally love, like spinach, can taste really intense. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I finished chemo earlier this year in April. It ruined chocolate for me! How dare it! 😉 It only altered my food toward the end of my four months of treatment. Water, however, it ruined almost immediately. I added lemon to my water, and that helped a lot. I also added tea bags to cold water and let it steep overnight. No sugar or anything. So cherry flavored herbal tea bags, for instance. I still drink my water this way, and I only went back to regular water this week. Not because of the taste. My taste went back to normal almost immediately, but I got used to the slight flavor in my water. lol Oh, I LOVED yellow mustard during chemo, and I'm not generally a fan of it. I normally prefer spicy or brown, but yellow was amazing those months. I believe that jar is still sitting in my fridge. 😛 Back to water...I recall being upset because water is mostly what I drank. Iced water even in winter. I also added peppermint tea to my days and flavored seltzer water. The bubbles helped.

The idea of cold steeping tea bags overnight in water is brilliant, especially without sugar. Bubbly water can be a lifesaver when plain water just doesn’t cut it. Thanks for sharing these tips...they’re super helpful!

My mom is undergoing chemotherapy with Perjeta medication (for breast cancer), and her sense of taste for sweetness and saltiness hasn't returned. Could you please suggest any medication or prescription that can help, keeping in mind her current treatment to prevent any reactions or allergies?

I didn't experience taste changes during the AC regimen but I stared associating the smells and tastes of foods I ate then with feeling sick. So don't comfort-eat all of your favourites then! I made ot an experiment to eat foods that I normally don't care.much anout and don't mind them.being ruined. During taxol/carboplatin my taste just got dull and i couldn't taste things It came back, but oddly enough 7 months later im still not as sesitive to acidic foods as before. Before chemo kiwi fruit and totato soup bothered me, but i find now i can eat them! Good tradeoff for the foods i started hating, i guess😂😂😂😂😂

Associating certain foods with feeling sick during chemo is tough, and experimenting with foods you don’t mind 'ruining' is a great idea. It’s interesting how your taste for acidic foods like kiwi and tomato soup has changed-it sounds like a good tradeoff for the foods you ended up hating!

hi now I finished my 5th camp.and these new one is horrible. severe gastrointestinal problems. strong small. etc
@yerbba3 ай бұрын
It sounds like the side effects from this new chemo round are hitting hard, especially with the gastrointestinal issues. Definitely let your medical team know so they can help manage these symptoms-there might be ways to adjust your treatment or add medications to make it more tolerable.
