Me too. My system was installed in 2005 and still runs correctly. I already made the decision that if it needs repairs beyond 1-2 pounds of refrigerant, it's being replaced. After 19 years, it's only needed 1 lb of R22, and that was about 10 years ago. It's not heavily used here in Oregon, and the condenser is in a well-shaded area, so it doesn't get anywhere near the abuse that would if we were in the sunbelt region. We wont see 90+ degree weather for at least 8 months from now, so knock-on-wood it will last another summer.

Replace the condenser with an air to water heat pump / chiller and replace the evaporator with a coil flowing the pumped chilled water. That way, all the refrigerant is outside the building and its fine to use propane as a refrigerant. It's cheap, an excellent refrigerant, low GWP and not harmful to the ozone layer
@guytech7310Ай бұрын
I don't believe there are any residential systems avail for that method yet, & I suspect it costs more than a traditional system otherwise companies would have done it long ago.

From what I can tell there is no reason R32 wouldn't work in a R410A system. A R410A system already runs R32 and the pressures in an R32 system are no different than a R410A system. I believe the only difference between the R410A and the R32 system is sensors. Do you really need sensors if you don't have a furnace or open flame next to the coil? In the South most systems are in a well ventilated attic and the homes are super leaky since they are built like shit so I would imagine no accumulation of anything. I feel like this is just an excuse to market the same crap at a higher price fleecing the average American. But I understand you can't tell us the truth and got to stick to the official line. People will figure it out on their own eventually.
@1KsE1Ай бұрын
R32 pressures are slightly lower. It’s more efficient and less of a charge is needed. And to be honest it’s not flammable like lpg or anything. Gotta fuck around and test these things 😂 I’ve also added r32 additional charge into a r410 system and it was fine. Then again 410 is a cocktail refrigerant made up around half of r32 anyway

When it comes to what other countries have done, my grandma used to say, "if the other kids jumped off a bridge, would you jump off too?" The idea of 32 is to have a lower global warming potential. That means you have to buy into the idea that man can control global warming by using a refrigerant with a lower potential, which seems about as probable as social distancing and mask wearing would prevent Covid transmission. If R32 was not more dangerous, there would not be all of the extra training being offered at supply houses. Summary: we change to a refrigerant in it's pure form to produce an outcome which is unlikely, and introduce a level of risk that is not needed by anyone. I will be out of the business before this comes to a rooftop unit near me. You guys have fun. HTH.

@@andreycham4797 In order to learn from others, what others have done must first be confirmed as good and effective. That is not the case when it comes to climate dogma. As an aviation professional, I learned that mistakes are often deadly, so you are best guided by others having made those deadly mistakes. Do a search for "exploding refrigerator."

Well said brother. Here's how you now it's all bullshit. Want to know how to Really help GWP? You mandate that all vehicles produced charge their own batteries so they never have to plug into the grid again. Done. I'm just going to legally sub out all my installs so I don't get sued. I bet insurance rates go up for contractors, homeowners, building owners. If it's so safe why do they have to change all the building codes? I've seen the videos from other countries of the AC's blowing up. I thought AHRI energy efficient equipment was supposed to help with GWP. I feel stupid saying that. All the executives getting paid will say anything. What about all the chlorine in the 100 million pools around the world? What about the 400 newk plants around the world pumping hot water into the oceans and rivers 24/7? The gov is the biggest polluter on the planet btw. How about magnetic energy? It's where you have a turbine (think blower motor shaft) and attached at the end of the shaft are 3 legs with (industrial size) steel balls at the end. You place industrial size magnets near the balls and they spin the shaft. Free energy with extremely low GWP. That's how you now all this is BS. Wait till people start getting hurt or killed. It's not the trained technicians I'm worried about.

R410a is ALREADY being phased-out, so if you are replacing your HVAC system, make sure it's R32 or R454B. The interesting thing about R454B is that it's a mix of R32 (subject of this video) and R1234yf (the replacement for R134a that is being phased-out in vehicles). Knock on wood, my 19-year old R22 system still works fine but it's days are numbered.

One of the most frustrating parts of the HVAC industry is the amount of misinformation being spread by technicians and subsequently making it to the general public. I’m getting ready to get quotes for a new heat pump and if I hear any of the nonsense that comes up in these comment sections, it’s an instant disqualification of that company.

R410A will no longer be manufactured or imported into the US after Jan 2025. "HVACR businesses at least one more full calendar year to buy R-410A. That can even continue into 2025 until the end of 2026." After 2026 no more sales of R-410A

@@guytech7310imported yes but can still be manufactured “here” until 2040 at reduced intervals. I’ve been through all the scare tactics for the last 25 years with r22 but I can still go to a supplier today and purchase r22 or any number of replacement refrigerants.
@ACServicesofFlaglerАй бұрын
R410a will still be manufactured in the U.S. but at reduced intervals until 2040 so that’s false. There are probably 50 million or more r410a units in operation right now and still being installed everyday do you honestly think there won’t be any 410a available next year? I can still buy r-22 at suppliers after all these years but obviously expensive. Plus all the r22 replacements available.

Both use POE as the compressor oil, so I expect that both will work fine. The reason you should not replace R410a with R32 is that R32 is more flammable and the units do not have the safety features to prevent a fire. DIY people have been using propane/butane to fix up old refrigerators and car ACs and this does work as well. Whether that's a good idea is another topic xD
