Porsches appear to be depreciating incredibly quickly right now, which is quite unusual for a brand that typically offers strong residual values. In this video we look at 5 in particular that just aren't selling right now, and are going down in value!
I hope you enjoy!

I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching! One common comment I see on videos about depreciation is the price new of cars adjusted for inflation - all this means is that if I buy a car new for £100,000 right now, and it's still worth £100,000 in 1 years time, if inflation that year was 10%, I have still theoretically lost money on it, because my £100,000 this year would be worth £110,000 in a year's time (from an inflation perspective, of course there are many reasons why my £100,000 might still be £100,000, for example if I left it in a bank account with no interest, or whatever). So yes, a 992 GT3's price new in 2023, for example, is not £175k, but in line with inflation, if you bought one in 2021, inflation would say that same money is equal to £175k, and in my opinion it's fairer to calculate depreciation with inflation as the basis, otherwise if you bought a £50k car in 1980 and it was still £50k today, you'd say it hadn't lost any value, when in real terms £50k in 1980 would be over £200k today! Tl;dr - a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money means less money in the past is worth more money in the future

I have a Taycan 4S, I bought it at 14 months old so I avoided the initial hit, it came with 26K worth of extras. I just want to say, its the most amazing car Ive ever driven (previous car was the Porsche Macan GTS) The car looks amazing, in Neptune blue, performs like a supercar and Im absolutely delighted with it.

To be honest, i'm delighted with that, someone else took the depreciation hit on it big time! I plan to have it for quite a few years and it costs next to nothing to run whilst being insanely quick!

The inflated prices days are well and truly over! Watches, cars, houses etc. are all falling and fast. Inflation isn't budging and money is way more expensive to borrow. In addition, wages aren't rising as fast as they were previously. People now understand none of the above are great investments. Houses will eventually even out, but luxury goods are just that! Luxury.
@derin111
@derin111 5 ай бұрын
This is exactly correct! As an older person now (60), I remember the days of the early ‘90s when our mortgage interest rates hit around 18%. However, since then whole generations had grown up with near ‘free’ borrowing and with a complete disregard of interests rates. Well, they’re beginning to find out now! It no longer makes sense to buy these stupidly expensive cars now that they are depreciating like this and the interest rates on the borrowing is so high. How many people can really ‘afford’ an £80k plus car based on their real incomes? Before I retired my annual income was over £300K and have no debts. I would never have considered spending £80K on a car despite being a massive petrolhead. The bubble has burst but it’s still taking time for a certain generation to adjust to reality. I think what you say is definitely true for the overt luxury items: Nobody ‘needs’ an expensive watch…nobody ‘needs’ a Porsche and once the speculation wind gets taken out of such thing’s sails their value collapses. Houses will be slightly different. People always ‘need’ houses and in a country where there is always a shortage they tend to be cushioned. Only in areas like London and the SE where price speculation is rife do you see truly massive swings. Indeed, just in the last 2 hours today, a BBC headline reports a slight INCREASE again in house prices.

The taycan back when it launched was ithe only premium car that directors can get and avoid a huge BIK charge, so they got snapped up on leases on their droves. After they years, this causes a huge glut of them to be on the market, which brings the price right down now there are so many more choices for premium EVs

People bought this car as an investment. The problem is people that could not afford the car bought the car as an investment the same way. People bought very expensive homes in 2006 because they would double in price which they don't. Once the price is started coming down, people realized that all of their money is at risk or they're going to have to hold the Porsche for 5 years and tie up all their funds in it which they probably can't afford to do. I'm talking about the GT3

You are talking about Taycan Turbo and not the most cars sold. Taycan's were £70k RWD and £90k for 4S model in 2020 with options from £85 to £110k. Now 3 year old cars £53 to £64k. So about 40% drop but could be more towards 4 year mark and warranties ending. Also fast rapid charging capability will have damaged batteries lowering range of Taycan's (200 and 250 mile max when new). Some cars might have lost 20 or 30 miles of range so always get a battery report when spending your money. Cupra Born's have lost 40% in 18 months along with VW ID3 and Audi etrons.

The bottom line is if you can't afford to loose the total value of the vehicle, then you are over stretching yourself. Yes everyone else is doing it but that doesn't mean you should too. If you can only afford to loose 20k then it makes sense to purchase a car for around say 30k. Its quite simple, just because the finance is available it doesn't means you should.

@caryg4638
@caryg4638 5 ай бұрын
People don’t understand why these cars depreciate and it has everything to do with who the new and second-hand buyers are. Typically, with most luxury cars that are under $100,000, you have a buyer of the new model who drives it for 3 to 4 years and then sells it. The secondhand buyer wants to purchase it because they want to look flashy but they can’t afford a new model. Even though the car will depreciate a bunch, they will still be buyers for those cars even at 60 to 65% of the purchase price of a new one. You just repeat the process. However, with models that are costing $200,000, there are a relatively select few people who can even afford to purchase a new one. And most of these cars are not desirable enough or maintenance free enough to justify a secondhand buyer trying to buy one for over 100 grand just to show off. At those prices, a secondhand buyer would just as soon pick up a base model brand new car for $100,000 or pay 60,000 for a different car altogether. In other words, the secondhand buyers in this market are not the same as the secondhand buyers for cars that are under 100 K.

Inflation based analysis is silly - what about your salary, how has that been doing? If you take inflation into account the prices of cars would have to rise to keep up with inflation which only makes sense if the cost of producing the car has risen with inflation as well. You need to do better maths to convince about your head line analysis. Cars naturally depreciate in an inflation free environment and you need to calculate that as well. Your figures simply do not add up?
@CarsWithJB
@CarsWithJB 5 ай бұрын
Have to disagree - if you’re investing you would consider inflation-adjusted returns as the real rate of returns as opposed to just whatever the actual value of return is at the end of any set period (I.e. if your investments go up by 3% in a year but inflation was 6% your investment returns are negative). Same goes for buying a car, if you bought a car in 1980 for £50k and it’s £50k today, that doesn’t mean you haven’t lost any money on that car relative to the money’s purchasing power - in today’s economy salaries (sadly, for most people) rarely go up in line with inflation, but that doesn’t mean that inflation doesn’t exist. On the cost of producing a car it’s a fair point, but typically that’s why the baseline cost of a car brand new does go up year on year - the Carrera S for example was £102k in 2019 and £110k now. But you can’t factor the cost of production into a car that’s already been produced, and you can’t factor the cost of other versions of that car that haven’t yet been produced, into the real cost of that car when it was new, and the amount that would equate to adjusted for inflation at any other point in history before or after it’s purchase - £102k in 2019 is £126k in today’s market, as a result of inflation

I challenge you to show me any 992 GT3 under $150k AND A TURBO S under 90k haha. we all know cars depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot how ever a significant amount of these cars you named have not lost the percentages you are saying- That being said that is why they are coming out with a law where you cant sell the GT/turbo s models right away so you cant profit off the vehicle- you have to have at least 1 yr of ownership before selling. that being said they know most of them are appreciating. STOP BEING A SIMPLETON

This is a lazy video. There is far movement involved when looking at GT3 prices and there is better content on Utube. Options and Gen updates are key to the prices. No mention is made of either point, as looking at headline lowest and highest prices is irrelevant.

Wouldn't call it Lazy in fact he's put a lot of effort into producing it and well done. The fact is that there's people out there that don't like hearing the facts when they've bought something that is a hot potato and losing cash. If your want a GT3RS then there's two for sale in Cardiff in one of those "specialist" dealerships a bargain at £399k each. Pay your money and take the chance, who knows it might be worth more in a year.

EVs are junk. No matter the brand. In the ned they will cost big money. Stay away.

This is definitely a lot of people's sentiment when it comes to second hand in particular!

The problem is they'll cost huge money and we're all worried they'll be useless in 10 years. BUT most engines are so quiet nowadays they provide no joy and all they do is provide NVH into the car, rather than anything pleasant.

Absolutely correct. I probably have more knowledge of EV's and batteries than most. Not a wise secondhand choice for many, many reasons, let alone insure them as repair shops don't want to touch them for good reasons (my neighbour's Ford Mach E is over twice to insure than my BMW 2023 M4 Competition at £450), enough said. Hence why the secondhand prices will plummet. Ask yourself one question.... why isn't Lord Bamford of JCB looking into EV technology and has in fact already produced a hydrogen prototype lorry??? The current battery technology isn't up to it. @@CarsWithJB
