That first tip for windows is windows 8 specific. If you using a better version of Windows (anything older than 8), you can manage your boot sequence by opening up msconfig. (Win+R, type "msconfig") Then open the startup tab.

Before I upgraded to a newer hard drive, I found that Google Drive was really slowing down my start up time. I do use it a lot but disabling it at start up helped speed things up a bit. I did recently upgrade from a 4 year old drive to a solid state hybrid drive. I found a Seagate 1 TB drive for under $100 and that sped things up tremendously. I also usually re-install Windows about once a year to keep things fresh.

Tip 74 Buy an SSD Use Acronis to clone you HDD to SSD Build in your SSD and remove HDD Finished! P.S. It also works for Mac but you don't have to Clone it via Acronis. Install MacOS and open Migration assistant. Connect your Old HDD via USB and restore from your "USB device"

They are better, but still far from perfect. Recently tried SteamOS. Cant get my 3-way 780's to work in SLI. Surround wont work. And most of my library of 110 titles wont run. I tried Ubuntu about a year ago. Ran into some of the same problems. But with SLI 680's. I just Linex is good for code monkeys and people looking for basic needs. Most workstation and gaming type stuff it falls flat outside a few specialized area. The SteamOS deal might change things if it gets traction, but I wont be holding my breath. Might be a long wait.

I won't disagree things aren't easy with driver problems but they are much better today then years ago. As for performance I get much better performance from Linux then other OS's.

Do not 'automate' automatic updates, especially for windows. If a 'bad' update happens with windows as it has happen over and over again and it still happens, it can and will make your computer unuseable till you put it in safe mode, then restore it to before your update. Which will be a pain to do. Just have the automatic updates tell you there is something new, not to download them or install them, then wait about a week to see if there is any problems with the update, which by then USUALLY the updates are fixed if they needed to be, and then you can download them and install them... this is the safest way, so you dont ruin your computer or make it unuseable trying to figure out why your computer became a paperweight.

P.S I suggest not to get an SSD, because it prevents you from rendering and uploading videos, or so I've heard.

for windows 7 and below, press the "Windows key+r" to bring up the run dialog box, type "msconfig" and press enter. When it opens up go to the startup tab, there it will show you all the applications running at start-up. Disable what you do not need. That's it.

Guys, my 2 year old windows 8.1 laptop have been slowing down quite abit. In games, i experience fps issues like dropping from 60 fps to 10fps every 5mins. Sometimes the whole game would just freeze up and the 'Not responding" message would appear. Would any of the upgrades mentioned in the video help me ?

Why not suggest Linux as an alternative to those with older slower hardware? It can revive old machines and give them new life. It won't make them feel as fast as a brand new machine with much much better specs, but it can extend the usage of some of those old machines that don't upgrade well to newer versions of windows and it's free. Some folks just don't have the cash flow in this economy to go get the latest hardware and thus stuck with XP, which of course has now reached end of life and really needs to be replaced. There are plenty of really easy to use distros out there for beginners too.

Chad Bremer Clock speeds doesn't matter much in modern computers.
@cbremer8310 жыл бұрын
Achraf Gbadamassi Actually it does. Kinda depends to a degree what you are doing and the type of build you have, but it most definitely has an effect. Case in point, my rig runs triple GPU's in SLI. CPU speed has a dramatic effect on FPS because it effects how fast my CPU can feed the cards. Pretty much any SLI, especially 3-4 card setups can bottleneck the CPU. If you render video or 3D work on your CPU, again clock speeds can shave minute off the time it takes to finish. Seconds on smaller projects. It's all in how the machine is built and used, like I said. There is a whole group of us overclockers out there with piles and piles of benchmarks and real world tests to show just how much a decent overclock can boost performance.
