i love these comic books that go beyond what "just" a comic book can do. they challenge us, even if they are superhero stories. i'd say Arkham Asylum is a great example of mixing surreal horror with superhero stuff, and i know u got it in your surreal comics list!

Love four of these five (I'll let you guess which one I don't, Dom lol). This is an interesting video. Genre bending...Usagi Yojimbo. One issue might be a mystery (who-done-it?). Another might be supernatural horror. Adventure. History. Slice-of-life. I'm ready to pronounce that it's my favorite ongoing series ever.
@TheComicBookReportАй бұрын
@@blurjose fair enough my friend 😂😂😂 And I really need to get Usagi another try! I read a little of a paperback I picked up once upon a time but didn’t commit to it / settle in to it. I may just need to commit ha

@@TheComicBookReport Keep in mind that though it's pretty great from the start, it only improves over the years.

@@blurjose that’s good to know. Is it a series that needs to be read from the start?
@blurjoseАй бұрын
It’s pretty new reader friendly. I personally started with the Fantagraphic Collection and moved to the “saga” darkhorse paperbacks but it’s not necessary. The advantage to starting early is getting close to the supporting cast. The disadvantage is starting only at great when you can start with transcendent.

When should I start Grayson? I’ve read Robin Year One, Nightwing Year One, and the Grant Morrison run of Batman. I have the Nightwing compendium too, should I read that before Grayson?

Also you think Todd McFarlane’s Spidey omnibus will be reprinted any time soon? I just got into Marvel and ended up missing it.
@TheComicBookReportАй бұрын
@@FaithInterlude-lp8yiGrayson takes place after the Forever Evil event, so toward the back end of the new52 era and bridges the gap leading up to Nightwing’s Rebirth run. All well after the Nightwing Compendium era. Grayson can be read fairly stand-alone overall and it feels very self-contained as a series. And not sure on Todd McFarlane’s Spidey, I picked up my copy a year or two ago when the eh reprinted. Unclear when they may reprint in the future. I know they also Released a paperback collection of this run.

I have only read 2/5 of these. Grayson looks pretty good, I might have to pick that up. I really loved the Swamp Thing omni. One of the coolest Omnis for art. I agree that both halves of that are really great and they'd even be good collected works to stand on their own. Usually when you get a writer that takes over, it feels like you lose something or there is a big adjustment in the series, but I think they both did a really great job with that transition and would 100% recommend that omni. The McFarlane Spider-Man really is as good as it gets for art in all of Spider-Man. I am one of those in the camp of being a huge fan of McFarlane for his art, but I've never really been a big fan of his writing. It was the same thing with Spawn for me. I might have to give the Spider-Man by McFarlane another go, it's been a while since I read it. It was good, but I definitely prefer Michilinie's writing during his time on Spider-Man.

Yeah if you check out Grayson you’ll have to let me know! As a fan of that spy espionage genre I had a blast. Agreed on Swamp Thing across the board a very fun ride 👏📚 Totally respect your opinion on McFarlane’s writing. I’m not sure if the bar was set low there for me or if I was just so surprised to see a darker more horrific themed Spidey run but it just worked for me. And of course his art is just 💪💯 I will say I do love Michelinie’s writing in this era though
